Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

You know what I kinda want to see?

The characters in Smash Ultimate get their own special weird as hell ending cutscenes like they did for F-Zero GX
Of Course with some F-Zero Characters redoing their own

King from Tekken?

Heihachi supporters would get so salty
Speaking of Heihachi. Everyone says Heihachi is the obvious Bandai Namco character, but if you go by the number of supporters each of the top 3 BN characters currently have on the site; Agumon wins by a landslide.

More specifically, Agumon literally has more supporters than Heihachi and Lloyd combined.

...Not going to post the obvious character.
We need people nobody would ever expect in any Nintendo game ever again
Viridi can be a wrestler if she wants.
She’d fit the murderer role instead...guess we might have to make K Rool and Bowser wrestlers
Is there anything Viridi can't do?

Besides reach the top shelf in the grocery store?
She can’t not attempt to kill a human

Mach Rider it is then :V

Except K. Rool is obviously a Little Mac Echo, if his DK64 boss fight is anything to go by :V

Mach Rider can now join the fight, and you right about K. Rool being a Little Mac echo (too bad he won’t be called Big Cheese)

I've never cared for Digimon nor did I go grow up anywhere where The Rivalry was big. Everyone I knew played Pokemon and that was that. So, if Agumon does get in I'll have no reaction whatsoever. I won't be disappointed since I know the Digimon v Pokemon rivalry was a big deal to some people but I have no personal attachment the the series at all.

You mean like this?

Nothing like going through the same cycle again after a Smash news bombshell.
Yup. In this case, you can suppose that Waluigi tried to steal a chair, but was pushed away by K. Rool's girth. Meanwhile, Shovel Knight wandered into the game by accident and didn't know he could participate.

trust me I love Treasure, like, I absolutely love Treasure. I am one of the few people who will sit down and tell you how Radiant Silvergun is one of the best games ever made. This kills me inside to say but

it's not even comparable.

(but hey, you can always enjoy some radiant silvergun! which anyone who hasn't should! please play radiant silvergun!)

also speculation is way too dependent on recency lol.
Also, Treasure has barely done anything at all in years (at least since Gaist Crusher) until the Ikaruga port deal recently, so let's hope they're willing to listen (and possibly even toss in Marina if they feel nice).

I actually like how Sakurai makes Donkey Kong, Bowser, Diddy Kong, and Rool more animalistic. It makes them seem crazy and dangerous. Which is why Melee Bowser is my favorite Bowser still.
Me too. As such, I hope they can somehow get around to the rest of the viable Kong members (Dixie, Cranky, Funky, Tiny, Lanky, maybe Chunky too). I'd love to see how they sound and act with such an interpretation.

Some characters are like that... some have funny ones, some have dance scenes, Black Bull has one where he just looks like a total idiot, and some just have... these
I love the idea of Deathborn just enjoying being evil (e.g. watching himself own the racers on TV and laugh) Adds a bit of character to him.

Just for you Pyra Pyra , I've made a list of rules that have been broken. Some of these weren't necessarily said, but I think that they were unspoken rules that people assumed that got broken anyway.
The size of the character must be to scale (broken by Kirby, Olimar [too small] and Ridley [too big])
A character must have a moveset to pull from in their home games (broken by Captain Falcon)
A character must be relevant to remain in Smash (broken several times over, beginning with Jigglypuff)
Clone Characters must be from the same franchise (broken by Ganondorf)
A character must have had their games released worldwide (broken by Marth)
A character must have had their game released before the Smash Game comes out (broken by Roy)
Only Japanese original characters are eligible (broken by Diddy Kong, definitively broken by K. Rool)
No third Parties (broken by Snake)
Even if the character is a Nintendo property, they must be an actual character (broken by ROB)
A character cannot have more than one clone (broken by Link and Fox)
If a character is cut they can't ever come back (broken by Dr. Mario)
Characters must be popular only in Japan (broken by Little Mac)
A character must use their most recent look (broken by PAC-MAN)
Third parties must have (main) appearances on Nintendo consoles (broken by Cloud)
Third Parties cannot have clones (broken by Richter)
Clone characters cannot have clones (broken by de Chrome from de Fire Embull, Give me a hug, Licuna.)
A character must be relevant to get in Smash (broken either by Ice Climbers, Pit or K. Rool)

Still up Peach's dress.
Gooey as a Kirby Echo would work better, since both can get abilities from their enemies.
Every now and then someone suggests an echo idea that I adore but hadn't considered.

Now is this time. Bless you Zeox. Can we have this please alongside the Dee? Gooey was player 2 in one of the games after all!

I honestly would love if they add all of the smash 64 stages, including the Crystal Cave and the Final Destination:

I want the Intro Desk more than anything. It would fit perfectly with this game's theme. Maybe they could even have Master Hand do the countdown on that stage instead of the numbered countdown.

I don't know if it's still being brought up but from where I am in the thread, I'm seeing a lot of talk about this game having a villain or rival theme. I personally have a hard time seeing it. We got Ridley who's a villain...but he was also one of the most requested characters for years. We got Wolf back but we also got all the other cut vets who aren't rivals or villains of any kind. We got King K Rool who's in the same boat as Ridley just without as many years or supporters. And then we have Dark Samus who still perplexes me. But then if you look at the other games, Melee gave us Bowser and Ganondorf (and if you really want to, you can count Mewtwo though I don't) and Brawl gave us Meta Knight, King Dedede, Wario and Wolf. I don't recall people saying Brawl had a villain or rival theme. And for any nitpicker who says 'well actually, they're not villains/rivals, they're...' okay fine, antagonists, minor or otherwise. I just don't see the newcomers of Ultimate following a 'theme' outside of highly requested characters. Some just happen to be villains and with K. Rool's video, they showed how (nearly) every series has their protagonist and antagonist. If we get the likes of Porky or somehow a Pokemon villain or rival or an FE one, I'll be more inclined to believe there's a 'villain theme' of some sort.

Speaking of FE villains, I see mention of the Black Knight possibly being an Ike echo. Couple issues with that. For starters, the Black Knight in all his armor is notably taller than Ike. Moreso a difference than Marth and Lucina have https://youtu.be/NvfhL1BfByA I also have a hard time picturing the Black Knight doing Ike's crouch animation in all that armor. Ike does get pretty low to the ground. There's also the matter of Aether but Chrom shows that that can be worked around. I've seen mention of him using warp magic as a recovery and I do agree that'd work given how often he uses it in the Tellius games. There's also simply my personal gripe of not being able to see the Black Knight using Ike's jab 1 and 2 but then I'd probably find the notion of Ike punching and kicking in Smash odd anyways if I had played PoR or RD before Brawl. At the very least, Alondite would be super easy to make since all they'd have to do is recolour Ragnell.

Oh and this may have been talked about earlier (like during the last direct) but in Ridley's trailer, they show him using his down special on Link and then Link gets KO'd. Thanks to the last direct, we know that that was just a Stamina match since you can have numerous stock during those now. I wonder if they bothered to alter the knockback in it too since in the previous games, knockback behaves differently compared to regular matches.

I mentioned a while back that I wanted the credits of this Smash game to be a medley of character themes.

I think the "melody" from the Smash 64 opening up to the countdown would be a great lead-up to it.

Quoting this post nobody seems to have responded to because there's something I didn't think about it and am now thinking about:

I thought about Gardevoir as a Mewtwo Echo a little more and now I'm not sure it can work, the shape of the legs are too different for Mewtwo's animations being easy to post on Gardevoir. On the other hand there's actually two other Pokémon that could work as an Echo of Pichu instead... you know what I mean, Plusme & Minun. It seems much less hype than Gardevoir, but since the overall body shape is much more similar it would be easier to work with. Difference wise they would lack Pichu's self harm effect but their electric attacks would be less powerful. And I guess Plusle would be the default and Minun would be an Alph-like alt. So basically we'd have a character alt of a clone of a semi-clone... and for the Final Smash I imagine it would be the other bunny (Minun if you're using Plusle and vice versa) using Helping Hand and an electric storm appears in front of the played character with plus and minus signs, being similar in function to Roy's Final Smash.

It sounds less exciting than with Gardevoir, especially since with Victini too Pikachu would become the new Marth (an original character with a clone plus a semi-clone with its own clone), but if that's how we're getting a playable rep from each generation then I would take it. Not as enthusiastically as with Gardevoir but still cool.

Now this makes me think about the pra_mai thing from Brawl: we could imagine that Sakurai wanted to replace Pichu with Plusle & Minun, similar to how he replaced Young Link with Toon Link, because they're electric glires* with similar body shapes and abilities, but we know this placeholder couldn't be for a duo character because both Ice Climbers have their own slots in Brawl's data. We know Sakurai introduced alt characters in Smash 4 with Alph and the Koopalings, as well as how Lucina and Dark Pit originally were supposed to be, maybe he could have done the same for Plusle & Minun at the time of Brawl, and since they would have the exact same gameplay it would have made sense to give them the same slot in the game's data.

*Fun fact: although it's popular knowledge that lagomorphs (including rabbits) aren't rodents, they're still considered by phylogenetic science as the closest things to rodents, and there's a word to mention them collectively. So if you want to talk about "electric rodents" but don't feel comfortable with it because of electric rabbits, now say "electric glires" instead.

Oh and by the way... did anyone else notice that Street Fighters now has a whopping 36 tracks? That's even more than Castlevania! And we will certainly get Guile's theme!
Wait wait....WAIT! Someone came up with Plusle and Minun....as singular characters...with no mention of an Ice Climbers-like duo going on?

Besides Goku, what's the most off-the-walls insane character you can think of?
Most insane character that I would play would be

If a character is cut they can't ever come back (broken by Dr. Mario)
And shattered by Ultimate
A character must be relevant to get in Smash (broken either by Ice Climbers, Pit or K. Rool)
Hell that was nearly broken by :ultfalcon: in 64 (he got lucky to have made a physical appearance nearly a year earlier

My idea for Geno's trailer involves a recreation of this scene
Honestly, that would make a perfect final trailer.
---
I think the actual rule about "in Smash before release" is: The character must have been in development for their own game long enough for Sakurai to a) see their final concept art, and b) have enough time to make them.

This hasn't been broken by Roy, Greninja or Corrin.

Anyone see anything interesting? I don’t know what all these tracks are from. Like Shin Onigashima and The Mysterious Murasame Castle.

Shin Onigashima is the game Donbe & Hikari are from (they were trophies in Melee), the song was in Smash 4.
Mysterious Murasame Castle is the series Takamaru is from, it's song was also in Smash 4.

I don't know if we are adding non broken rules yet but I want to add one I believe in.

Echoes must be of the same series.

So no Giygas Mewtwo echo. I do think Ganondorf clone was a one time deal and we won't see it happen again with echoes. Preapring myself to get proven wrong XD

Maybe it's because 3 of the 8 have been villians, and people are predicting at least 2-3 more? Shrug.

I think people are just looking for something they want and with the tease of a possible adventure/story mode it's possible. Even if the additions aren't villian/antagonist themed, this will be the game with the most atagonists, obviously.
