Prediction time!
We will see 6 more unique fighter and 6 more echoes, leading to a total fighter count of 85 including echoes.
I predict the remaining echoes to be
-Impa for
-Dixie for
-Shadow for
-Issabelle for
-Ken for
-Ms. Pac Man for
And the remaining newcomers to be
-Inceneroar (im not into Pokemon so I dont know much about him, but Verg is onto something. He is this games obligatory Pokemon.)
-Geno (highly requested since Brawl, Sakurai has commented on him, Square may be stingy with FF but I dont think they would make a fuss over a character that they used once.)
-Bandanna Dee (steady requests for years, were getting content from newer Kirbys like Masked Dedede, popular around the world)
-Rayman (Popular in the west only probably hurts him, but Ubisofts buddy buddy attitude makes ne think more is in their future with Nintendo)
-Skull Kid (No, its not in the furniture. SK himself may not be iconic, but the Majoras Mask is incredibly popular and is on a lot of Zelda merchandise, so SK wouldnt be as "literally who" as some may think at first. He has also had consistent popularity, and is MIA in the AT catalouge with the moon now present. That and with the constant request for more Zelda fighters, I could see a newcomer (SK) and an echo (Impa)
-Banjo Kazooie (It may be farfetched, but thats why I put them last. They would be a final 'holy ****'receal like Cloud. The popularity is there, and they even have some following in Japan, surprisingly)
I was considering both Isaac and Black Shadow, but figured the characters listed would have a wider reach. Consider them honorable mentions.
It may seem like some out there wish list, but considering the content we have so far, it seems they are trying to pull as many stops as possible to make this game massive. More than likely not going to get mos tof these characters, but I think we will get atleast 4-5 of them.
Im going to keep pretending to know everything and predict we will get 6 more stages, based on Minecraft, The Glade of Dreams from Rayman, Spiral Mountain from Banjo Kazooie, a stage from Pokemon Sun Moon, DK Tropical Freeze, and Xenoblade Chronicles X. Rex, Crash, and Springman will be in the first DLC wave.
How would ya'll feel about Chibi Robo in Smash as an echo rather than a fighter? Like what about other characters like that? What if Issac was an echo?
No. And that’s news to me. Lol. I guess I missed those in my younger days. Must have been too busy with The Legend of the Mystical Ninja, Killer Intinct, Maximum Carnage and Donkey Kong Countey.
Edit: was gonna fix Countey....Donkey Kong County.....ha. I’m not gonna, though.
Wow, this thread moves fast.... and I was only gone for about a week.
That **** was ****ing hype. That direct was WELL worth the wait. Simon may not have been a big surprise because of the leaks, but RITCHER on the other hand shocked me.
But he, along with Chrom and Dark Samus, have certiantly helped to set the rules of how different an echo can be.
The new modes look awesome too. FINALLY, I can play a mode where I switch characters with each stock! LONG overdue. The other modes look awesome and ****.
Also, yes! KING K ROOL! ****ING AWESOME!!!!!!....... But that does bring me to my one real concern with this direct.
The way they handled the reveal. Don't get me wrong, I'm really glad King K Rool is in the game..... but hear me out for a minute, please. Newcomer space is limited as hell, and King K Rool and Ridley are almost certiantly the biggest reveals this game had to offer. So, it may be just me, but if I were Sakurai, I wouldn't have blown off my two biggest surprises right off the bat, because then it would all go downhill from there. Rather, I would have made King K Rool one of the last characters I revealed before the game released, so we'd end promotion with a bang. For that matter, while I suppose revealing every fighter before the game releases is a good idea in theory, it really dosen't appeal to me, because one of the best parts of Brawl and Smash 4's speculation period for me was seeing a trailer pop out of nowhere post-release and unlocking some other characters that just flat out weren't revealed and were kept hidden away.
Ah well, I can live with that. This was an awesome direct. This is shaping up to be my dream Smash and then some...... even if the wait will kill me. I'm one of the most impatient ****** out there.

They're all Famicom Disk System games, i.e. they're Japanese only. That said, you can get Murasame Castle on the 3DS eShop.
It's a fun system to collect for if you have the means to do so (look up Twin Famicom on eBay). Zelda, Metroid, Kid Icarus, and Castlevania (also Puyo Puyo) debuted on the system. The Famicom Medley song uses the FDS versions of several tracks that have expanded audio.

You say this, but you're forgetting that during Smash 4's lead up, he started with Villager and Megaman, and ended with Shulk (with Bowser Jr. and Duck Hunt coming after release).
Yes, Ridley and K. Rool are the big heavyweight hitters in terms of hype, but Sakurai has never saved the best for last.

I still don't get this whole 'Isabelle can't be an echo because her proportions are too different' thing. Like what? They're so damn close. And as proven by Dark Samus, they aren't just porting models from Smash 4 to make new Echoes, her model is wildly different from her Smash 4 one. Echoes in general have proven to have a lot more effort and thought put into them than we initially believed, Isabelle having a slightly tweaked model to be 1:1 with Villager is entirely within the realm of possibility.

Unless you count Bayonetta.

I get your point. I also never would've expected a King K.Rool reveal this early.
Then again, there's still at least 2 potential bigger shock additions than King K.Rool at this point.
Those probably being Geno, and Banjo-Kazooie. Maybe another 3rd party character, as Rayman. Isaac of Golden Sun would also be a bigger surprise addition than King K.Rool, as well as Skull Kid.
We don't know what other characters are in. So might be too early to tell.

Echoes:
Isabelle (Villager)
Impa (Sheik)
Shadow (Sonic)
Dixie (Diddy)
Zack (Cloud)
Unsure for the 6th Echo, my ideas involve bending rules...(Kumatora for Lucas, Fiora for newcomer Elma, Bass or Proto Man for Mega Man) other than those, Celica for Robin but I think Celica will be DLC
Uniques:
Elma
Isaac
Bandana Waddle Dee
Chorus Kids
Incineroar or Buzzwole
Heihachi or Lloyd Irving
So who do you think are the top 5 most requested characters? List them and then rate their chance.
Isaac: 60%
Geno: 70%
Banjo and Kazooie: 50%
Bandana Waddle Dee: 60%
Skull Kid: 70%
So we know we will see all newcomers before release...with only a few months left how's that gunna pan out?
My idea
September - General direct before online services, 1 character revealed (Maybe two like the Belmonts, but I'll stick with 1).
October - Special Announcement like Robin & Lucina. Again predicting 1.
November - Big blowout Smash direct, another 5 or so newcomers.
December - One final special announcement the week of release. Again probably 1.
That leads to 8 or so more newcomers which lines up to what I'm predicting. Thoughts?
I like how, besides July, this leads to an announcement every month. With only a few more months I can totally see that happening.
In fact, for a SMRPG Assist Trophy, just have classic Geno, Mallow, Mario, Peach, and Bowser come out of it and do a move from SMRPG (For instance, Bowser's chain chomp attacks)
And also introduce Geno and Mallow as characters
Single-handedly throw everyone's assist trophy expectations out of the window
So who do you think are the top 5 most requested characters? List them and then rate their chance.
Isaac: 60%
Geno: 70%
Banjo and Kazooie: 50%
Bandana Waddle Dee: 60%
Skull Kid: 70%
