...Funky Kong for Smash?
I doubt it'll get released in the same year. Maybe somewhere in 2020 if a 2019 reveal.I don't know. I can see the announcing it this year while they relase it next year. I don't think thay they will reveal and a release a Smash game in a single year.
Track Meet for Smash!I don't really consider any character "what" characters, some are surprises but most make sense.
R.O.B. Game & Watch and Duck Hunt are legacy retro characters. They each represent an important piece of old school hardware.
I do wonder who next to fit this bill could be
I can agree with Duck Hunt actually.Duck Hunt was chosen to be one.
Bowser Jr. isn't even close to being considered a surprise character.
Woah dude.Track Meet for Smash!
Track Meet uses the NES Power Pad for his moves.
People keep saying this, but in the last two months we literally got three new ports of Wii U games revealed, all of which released earlier than Smash 4.I'm honestly gonna be surprised if we get any Smash news in 2018; gonna feel too late for Smash 4 Deluxe (or whatever) and gonna feel too early for Smash 5.
Captain Toad would have better odds of getting in Smash 5 if Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker was ported to the Switch.People keep saying this, but in the last two months we literally got three new ports of Wii U games revealed, all of which released earlier than Smash 4.
I think it'd be a lot harder to put a new Smash game on the Switch when we also have Smash 4 on there as well, which is why I doubt it will happen. Granted, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe exists so I could be wrong.People keep saying this, but in the last two months we literally got three new ports of Wii U games revealed, all of which released earlier than Smash 4.
I'd say this is close to what we can expect. The cuts are fair, and most of the additions make sense. The only characters I'm skeptical of are Glass Joe, Issac, Tails, and to a lesser extent, K. Rool and Waluigi. What I think the roster (realistically) might look like: (FE generic is Corrin, Pokémon is from Gen 8 and Newcomer is Spring Man)
Well, depends on circumstance really. If there is a Smash 5 in development, set hypothetically to release in 2019 or something, or if work on a deluxe port only commenced like... late last year or something, I'd agree, it wouldn't make much sense to still get a port. Meanwhile, if work on the port happened concurrently with the DLC and they've been more or less sitting on it, or if Smash 5 isn't in active development (and therefore still some years away), it would make sense to release a port.I think it'd be a lot harder to put a new Smash game on the Switch when we also have Smash 4 on there as well, which is why I doubt it will happen. Granted, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe exists so I could be wrong.
Regardless of such I'd take Smash 5 over Smash 4 Deluxe any day of the week.
It is definitely notable, despite it not being a new game, its a more recent experience for the Kongs which helps Dixie,etc.. Best result for DKC fans aside from a new DKC game(which may still happen)/remastered SNES trilogy a la N Sane style. If I were to update this analysis, do you reckon it would be worth moving Donkey Kong from no game to new game

It's only tropical freeze re-release, but it could be notable enough, especially since Smash Wii U was very minimal on Tropical Freeze content and this could further encourage a new game to use content from said game.
....that scenario would be your own fault, then. All announcing a smash 4 remix or whatever will do for me is create fear that I'll never get to play my favorite Nintendo series on my switch
My fault, let me correct myself. I'll never play a NEW smash on my switch or period for the next 4 or 5 years. And I'll refuse to buy a deluxe edition out of fear that I'd be buying the same 4 year old game that I already own with a few added characters (possibly extra modes) for full price.....that scenario would be your own fault, then.
You literally can't lament that "I'll never be able to play Smash on my Switch" when a Smash for the Switch would be readily available and the only reason you "can't" play it is because you actively chose to avoid it because it's not the one you WANT.
Well at least you won't need to worry about that...even a brand new Smash wouldn't add 25 newcomers. My fault, let me correct myself. And I'll refuse to buy a deluxe edition out of fear that I'd be buying the same 4 year old game that I already own with a few added characters (possibly extra modes) for full price.
Now time to move forward to state the one thing that could possibly change my mind about a smash DX... adding about 25 new characters.
It kinda stopped being "big" when Microsoft bought Rare and recently became "big" again with the Returns games, so not really shocking, imo. It's genuinely shocking that DK only has two reps, considering how big of an IP it is. I'm aware the roster will never be "balanced" (whatever that means), but it feels like all big IP's deserve more than 2 reps.
My reasoning... if most smash games only add about a dozen or so characters to the playable character count It'd take twice that number to make me get the same smash game twice (unless my older copy is damaged, stolen etc.).Well at least you won't need to worry about that...even a brand new Smash wouldn't add 25 newcomers.
I mean, that's accurate for Melee and Brawl, but the franchise is in a different place now. it became "big" quite before Smash 4 released. You would think Returns would be considered enough of a boost. It kinda stopped being "big" when Microsoft bought Rare and recently became "big" again with the Returns games, so not really shocking, imo.
In the context of Smash, not really, honestly. Breath of the Wild is still going to be the main thing the next Smash pulls from, as opposed to a crossover spinoff.Speaking of Zelda, Skull Kid, Midna, Ghirahim and more now have a small boost in relevance with the rererelease of Hyrule Warriors.
Obviously, which is why I said small. In the context of Smash, not really, honestly. Breath of the Wild is still going to be the main thing the next Smash pulls from, as opposed to a crossover spinoff.
Just go the Mario Kart Wii route. It's genuinely shocking that DK only has two reps, considering how big of an IP it is. I'm aware the roster will never be "balanced" (whatever that means), but it feels like all big IP's deserve more than 2 reps.
Edit: Assuming the IP has more than 2 eviable characters, of course.
I never knew Waluigi was a Donkey Kong characterJust go the Mario Kart Wii route.
Perfect trio.
If only that would help him get in....I never knew Waluigi was a Donkey Kong character
Truly the holy trinity of Donkey Kong.Just go the Mario Kart Wii route.
Perfect trio.
The only question that remains: WHY IS VAATI STILL NOT IN THIS DANG GAME!?!?!?!?Speaking of Zelda, Skull Kid, Midna, Ghirahim and more now have a small boost in relevance with the rererelease of Hyrule Warriors.
Weird thing is every character from Mario Kart Wii is in Mario Kart 8 except for Those 2 Kongs....and I guess Birdo.Just go the Mario Kart Wii route.
Perfect trio.
Arguably the biggest obstacle was the Rare buyout, which hurt the franchise and potential for more Smash content. Prior to the buyout, DKC was seemingly in the top 5 Nintendo IPs overall in terms of sales, popularity and mainstream appeal in the late 90s.It's genuinely shocking that DK only has two reps, considering how big of an IP it is. I'm aware the roster will never be "balanced" (whatever that means), but it feels like all big IP's deserve more than 2 reps.
Edit: Assuming the IP has more than 2 viable characters, of course.
You're enititled to your opinion of course, and your stance is understandable but, think about it what is the one real reason you buy a new Smash? It's still basically the same game as the last just with added new characters and modes. So, really, you're buying the same exact game everytime anyways. Just with more modes and/or characters. Most people, MOST, don't buy the game for the mechanics. My reasoning... if most smash games only add about a dozen or so characters to the playable character count It'd take twice that number to make me get the same smash game twice (unless my older copy is damaged, stolen etc.).
