I'd love for Lloyd to be in the game but honestly if we're only getting like, 6-10 newcomers, I'd like for as few 3rd parties as possible. Simon, Heihachi and Lloyd is just way too much.

Like, I get the feeling that some people were having.

As happy as I am with the current roster, and as fine as I was with the 'leak', but at the same time, with only a handful of newcomers, some fanbases are going to get scorned.


I think the DK fanbase has it the worst, personally. If both K,Rool or Dixie get skipped over this game, they'll have honestly every reason to be upset when Tropical Freeze was a decently large success.

Nice to see a step up in fake leak quality. That's the longest I've seen a fake image or footage leak go on uncontested (only about 45 minutes or so, but even that's impressive). Waiting for the one madman who knows the obscure source for something like this to show up and dismantle a seemingly uncrackable leak is thrilling, and to me just proves that someone will have to go above and beyond even an Artsy Omni leak to truly fool the fanbase at this point. We've got some absolute mad lads in this community who can find ANYTHING that isn't 100% original.

I was relieved the heihachi lloyd simon thing is fake because otherwise this game would have a huge problem with character fantasy. One of the reasons i like smash is because of the variety. Theres semi realistic humans, but also dogs, edgy orbs, whatever the hell pac man is, even a playable toy from the 80s. A lot of wild stuff. having simon or heihachi or lloyd is fine but you gotta break up the feel a bit, especially as casual players will gravitate to their fav characters instead. Cartoonized humans like ashley and monster/non humanoid characters like ridley and the kirby cast have been top requests for over a decade for a reason. Inkling and ridley are a great start and i hope they continue.

Like compare that supposed vergeben + lloyd leak to something like Simon, Magolor, Rayman, Issac, Chorus Men and 9 volt (secret character) thats not even my dream roster and that would be more satisfying for a huge part of the community.

Ok, finally caught up with the thread (running a smash youtube channel takes a lot of attention lol).

Lloyd leak was exciting and then died fast.

as for the 8/8/18 direct, 8/hachi being in heihachis name is interesting with so much buzz around him already (reminds me of when dreamcast came out 9/9/99).

I'm still in shock we are getting a smash direct, not a nintendo direct a SMASH direct, this soon after E3 which felt like a huge amount of smash ultimate info... somewhat afraid sakurai is doing something crazy here by either dropping all the chaarcters on us to prevent leaks (would be cool but might kill my hype in a few months without the speculation buzz) OR conversely the game is being pushed back or something, and so he's giving us more info buuuut a later release... i dunno im probably going way too far in either direction here but I was just not expecting an entire direct for smash AGAIN this soon, so it makes my mind go to extremes.

anyway super excited for this! the drought was tough but maybe thats how we will be getting smash info, every month or two a huge drop of info then a drought of info back and forth until the game comes out?

Honestly, I wouldn't be extra hype about Lloyd being in because of me never really getting into the Tales Of series, though I've been wanting to forever, but damn would it be a big deal for them to have Pac-Man, Lloyd, and Heihachi in Smash. And at this point, I wouldn't put it past Namco, the mad ******** who put Negan in ****ing Tekken 7. Crazier **** has happened.

I think in general, people are putting way too many eggs in one basket. We should all at least be prepared for our most wanted to be disconfirmed or not playable.

If you go in expecting your most wanted to be playable, you have absolutely no one to be upset with but yourself. K. Rool not being in (hypothetically) isn’t even Sakurai’s fault. The hype surrounding “Ridley got in, so K.Rool is likely” is entirely said and assumed by the fanbase. Sakurai has never hinted that K.Rool is likely or is on his mind.

Everything is literally conjecture and placing potential meaning that we simply don’t know.

This is the same thing as assuming “Ashely is getting in because she’s popular”, “Elma is definitely in because she’s the latest Xenoblade character”, “BWD is totally in because he’s #4” ...while all these things are nice, we only assume these things are likely because the fanbase places importance on particular aspects of their existence.

Basically, hype train should be fully engaged. But beware that there are still Assist trophies to be revealed, stages to be revealed, Final smashes to be revealed, and obviously newcomers.

Have fun...but please don’t get yourself overhyped.

Your opinion =/= reality

Any full roster is going to be treated with similar animosity when the game is released because "x character got in over y character!" and "z character was a shoo-in!"

It happened with Melee, it happened with Brawl, it happened with Sm4sh, and it will happen with Ultimate.

- Big boom of requests since Sonic's reveal, also from a company that hasn't A. used him in years, B. used any of its works featured in the series
- This dude never even starred on a Nintendo console of course people would lose their minds

was kinda expected since Namco themself was working on 4. is a salt mine. was leaked so there was no sheer awe if his surprise was spoiled.

I can see the "shock and awe" from someone like Heihachi because it's another scenario, but the only "shock and awe" I see from Lloyd is angry people going "WHAT IS THIS ANIME" or "literally who the **** is this"

Geno is not a Square Rep because Square developed the game he was in. Panther Caruso isn't a Namco character just because they developed Star Fox Assault.

If there was another Square rep, it would most likely, definitely be Agnes Oblige.

Personally, I really, really would love to see Nightmare rather than Heihachi; or even Lloyd as the second Namco character. Granted he's a swordsman once more but he has an extremely cool design.

And also, am I the only one who would like to see a Ridge Racer stage? Music in Ridge Racer games are lit!

1. There’s wayyy too many stages left to reveal (among other things) in an official light

2.No character is a shoe-in for their respective series and I can not stress that enough. Nobody would have called Daisy as a Mario newcomer (and potentially the only one)

lloyd is a very plausible addition and like some other younger fans of smash (i mean under 23) it would be cool to get characters that have been relevant in the last 20 years.
also more 3rd parties i feel make the game more interesting more mechanics and more crossover. still prefer 3rd parties over tier 3 or 4 nintendo characters.

DLC makes dreams come true. neagan in tekken was someone's dream. i'm happy for that one random guy. but tv characters in noncomic games? that opens ALL KINDS of doors if people buy and like it. also if you were going to put a tv character in i'dtihnk it would be jon snow....

Not pleasing everyone is not a call to half ass the roster, i intentionally used that list to show that even without k rool ashley and geno, you can make a crowd pleaser roster. Sakurai knows this, the silouette of a character has been a defining element of the series for a long time, the shape of a character matters. But keep googling jontron comeback forum epic i guess

I don't know about 'best way'. Picks like Wii Fit Trainer and ROB, or even just including characters like Ridley managed to shock people in a good way. At some point relying on third parties on your Nintendo crossover becomes a crutch, especially when all speculation falls onto guessing which 3rd party is next (look at how people just know Heihachi is going to be announced and tell me it's shock-and-awe). Picking characters that are hiding in plain sight can work in a way that third parties can't.

Pre-1998 has a way larger pool than you think, you're treading in deep deep waters.

I don’t want to use caps but please everyone for the love of Arceus stop using the term “rep”.

Characters don’t get in to just rep something. They do that by default. The term “rep” makes it seem as if Sakurai just decides, “Hey, let’s add Petey Pirahna because he’s a giant ****ing enemy and represents a game!”

That’s ****ing stupid.

We play this because it’s a video game. His job is to make the game fun. It matters more that the character is fun, not that they “represent” something. Base case scenario, they embody something from their game in their moves.

Really though, I HATE...HATE, the word “rep” because it just tears everything down and acts like this isn’t even a video game. It’s like it’s just “Nintendo history for $60” to some people, and if Smash was “Nintendo history for $60” it’d be probably the worst game on the planet.

Yes, that’s an exaggeration.

Remember when everybody thought a Final Fantasy “rep” would come in and “represent” the Nintendo history of SE and Final Fantasy. Wowie, that didn’t work out that way.

Remember when Snake got cut so we all figured 3rd parties had to represent games hat were “more Nintendo” and “not M-rated”? Some people did actually say that. Now look where we are.

Stop talking about reps, and more about fun stuff.
