Because the anime dictates what happens in Smash as far as a Pokémon, and as far as the anime is concerned, that's THE Mimikyu, and it's the exact opposite of the Mimikyu I actually liked from the games.

They took a cute concept and butchered it with a childish amount of edge.

With the addition of Hilda and Impa as echo fighters, I'm prepared for the possibility that there may be only 5 more newcomers, leaving us at 70 fighters (not counting Echo Fighters).

Saw this as the first post of the page and got very confused, and started checking the Smash Bros site in all languages.

Mimikyu would have been picked for Smash before Jessie's Mimikyu was an established thing.

That being said, since there's no Meowth to translate (or refuse to translate) what it says and the whole "must murder Pikachu" thing couldn't really be incorporated into Smash anyway, how would anyone even know if a Mimikyu is being "edgy" in Smash even if it sounds like Jessie's?

People wanted to see the sweet, shy version of Mimikyu they read about in its original explanation after its reveal. Instead, we got this vicious, hateful thing that just....isn't what Mimikyu fans expected.

I don't hate it myself, but I definitely don't like it. It is a fair alternate take on the mon's backstory and I can appreciate that, but I really would prefer they used its more "notice me senpai ;w;" personality. I can't see Mimikyu getting into Smash without a more menacing personality so I'm totally OK with it if thats what we get. Hopefully, some of its taunts will be a bit more "cute."

So, tldr: I don't hate it so much as I expected, "I wanna be looooved" and got "Bro, lets kill Pikachu."

Yeah, but they're not the headliners, so to speak. When Pikachu appears in anything, Detective Pikachu aside, it tends to have Ash's Pikachu as a base for how it acts. When people think of Meowth, they think of Team Rocket's Meowth, but at least the fact that Meowth tend to be greedy plays into it being a villain. But now Mimikyu is tied to a version of itself that isn't even anything like its game counterpart, which is depicted as a more wholesome "I wish someone would notice me" type, as opposed to the "I want to kill you and wear your skin as my own" edgy vibe the anime gives it.

It took something comparatively-wholesome (the whole "kill whoever looked under the cloak" thing was played more as a natural side effect than something it controlled, or at least was left ambiguous) and bastardized it.

No. I'm not missing out. I've seen the best of them, like the Wolf mod for Wii U. But, you shouldn't legitimize mods. They shouldn't be placed on an equal pedestal as the official creation. I can't in good conscious say that the Wolf mod for Wii U remotely satisfies me in place of him actually being in the game. It would be an insult to Nintendo and its characters if I acted like it did.I

I think good mods should be admired, but they should never be treated as if they are official games (like Project M).

Here's a perfect demonstration of how Mimikyu would work in Smash Ultimate and possibly be one of the most unique fighters.

Here, you can see Mimikyu jumping, dashing, trapping Pikachu inside his blanket (good idea for a grab animation as well as a Final Smash), and the unique ability to extend his arms far beyond his hitbox.

But, if Sakurai can't somehow make that work (despite the endless potential) I wouldn't be surprised if Zeraora was his second pick.

I did not know Acerola had a shiny Mimikyu in the anime, that is cool!

Pokemon is one of Nintendo's biggest franchises and due to the nature of the series it is arguable the easiest game to pick a newcomer from as new, popular Pokemon come out every 2-3 years.

Easily second only to Mario. It makes sense for it to have at least one newcomer.

Personally, I feel that directional air dodging is gona be a lot of reasons why i’ll die on for glory, we’ve seen competitive players directional air dodging off stage and it looks like it just pushes you way too much to the side that you dodge too, hopefully they make it less likely to air dodge off stage

But how is a Mimikyu "supposed" to sound like that isn't off? We can't really go by it's in-game cry because that never really applies to any existing Pokémon barring Pikachu (retroactively).

Same with "shambling like a zombie"....how do we not know that's just what Mimikyu do while dragging their costume (especially when the head is limp)?

Personally, I feel that directional air dodging is gona be a lot of reasons why i’ll die on for glory, we’ve seen competitive players directional air dodging off stage and it looks like it just pushes you way too much to the side that you dodge too, hopefully they make it less likely to air dodge off stage

They can't make it less likely. Directional airdodges aren't based on RNG. Just don't hold a direction when you airdodge offstage and everything will be peachy.

Anime Mimikyu feels like what an American Marketing firm would do to a game's translation in the 90's but it's all in Japan which makes it very strange.

Eh, I personally got a very creepy vibe from the Totem Mimikyu, but different perspectives, I suppose.

I love anime Mimikyu. Like, way more than "regular" Mimikyu. We don't really get many characters in the Pokemon Anime that are as hostile and savage as Mimikyu.

The thing is, if Mimikyu were to appear in some form in Smash Ultimate, whether it's a Poke Ball Pokemon, a trophy cameo, or even an enemy in Smash Run, it probably won't be the one who hates Pikachu.

xP Well, my Ridley has pretty high standards when it comes to his fancy looking clothing, and since a friend is working on a Classic Ridley mod, I am going to jokingly ask him to put him on one, and funny, he was actually going to with one of my fancy clothed Ridley designs I made years ago, but it was the Other M one, so it was kinda complicated and it did not happen.

I'm of the opinion that we give every "leak" the benefit of the doubt and entertain the notion that it could be the one.

• No one believed ChaosZero, and his posts on GameFAQs were taken down by moderators multiple times. In DMs they called him a troll.
• The other true Brawl leaker was also treated as a troll, and had their post edited by the moderators of this site to make them look that way.
• People scoffed at Gematsu before Wii Fit Trainer was revealed, and still didn't believe it after that.
• Ninka/Vaanrose was widely doubted despite the evidence it gave.
• The ESRB leak was infamously detested, with people doing mental gymnastics to disprove it, hence the "Shulk is a photoshopped Little Mac" meme.
• A leak of Smash Bros. Ultimate that predicted all veterans, Ridley, and Daisy showed up a day or two before E3 and everyone laughed at it.
• People are still (somewhat rightfully) skeptic of Vergeben despite his claims being correct so far.

Every real leak has been laughed at, so each leak that we laugh at could be the one.
