It seems like such an obscure fact that I’m sure Sakurai would overlook it.

I know, I’m mostly just kidding. I just remembered a few members saying they wouldn’t mind Amy and this came to mind.

Not saying much since Amy is far from the most likely Sonic character though.

She wouldn’t be considered over Tails, Shadow or Eggman, yeah.

She’s still featured in the games predominantly... and I guess you’re not counting spin-offs for playable appearances.

She was in Unleashed while Knuckles and Shadow were completely absent, she was in Lost World too with no Shadow in sight. She’s a main character.

You should also have seen the outcry from fans when they found out she wouldn’t be included in Mania, they wouldn’t shut up about her.

Moreover, Amy is one of the first characters playable in spin offs.

You're trying to downplay Amy, but as it stands, she's one of the most important characters in the franchise and joins the group of Tails, Eggman, Knuckles and Shadow as Sonic mainstays.

That said, we are either getting Tails due to seniority or Shadow due to popularity. No one else is in the running right now.

I genuinely dont see the issue with sonic characters using guns. Mickey Mouse, Looney Tunes, etc used them before its not really an issue.

While i cant defend ST's execution of the concept they were in right with what they thought. Sonic characters do in fact look cool with weapons and i wouldn't mind seeing this concept revived during a better state for the franchise

The problem with firearms is that they can quickly turn a game's theme into a dark and edgy tone. Obviously, the dark and edgy path did not bode well for the Shadow the Hedgehog game, as it ended up being ranked among the worst Sonic games ever made.

Is there a thread for adventure mode ideas? I ran with the idea of making a melee 2.0 using the original adventure mode as a base as most stages are returning. I included branching paths so it can be just as long (maybe a bit longer) but represent every series and not go stale as quick.

I'd post it here but it seems more appropriate for a specific thread.

I did make one for my concepts, but one of the concepts got killed after what happened to Bowser's Final Smash; Giga Bowser is no longer a fully playable character.

I've kinda given up on anyone who isn't Shadow at this point. Knuckles definitely won't be in, and Tails has already been seen in Green Hill Zone. The latter doesn't count as a disconfirmation, but it'd be highly unusual for us to see a future newcomer as something else besides a playable character first. Obviously it's not impossible; ROB is a living testament to that. I just think it's highly unlikely at this point.

Regarding the discussions regarding "proportionate" human designs in video games, keep in mind the main characters of the two newest major IPs from
Nintendo, Splatoon and ARMS, don't really fall into the "proportionate" human category of designs. There's also lesser-known newer franchises like Dillon and Pushmo that have cartoony main characters. I don't think the amount of "proportionate" human designs in Smash 4 is anything to do with "the changing times" as much as it to do with loads of JRPG newcomers and the choices of DLC newcomers. It's just how things happened.



The whole "no non-video game rule" only applies to third-party characters as shown by Sakurai rejecting Goku several times. That and Lucario made his first appearance in an anime.

Smash For has one more JRPG character than Brawl.

EDIT: If you only count newcomers, they have same.

Goemon is an extremely niche series, not nearly as successful as Castlevania or even Frogger.

Jumping on the "humanoid newcomer thing". This is gunna be super debatable, but I'm looking for anime/realistic human additions, not cartoony.
Smash 64: (25% of newcomers)
Melee:(40%)
Brawl:(25% (Pokemon Trainer is 1)
4:ultryu:
(50% (Mii Fighter is 1)
Ultimate: None so far.

Yea this all goes by what you are considering. For example Kid Icarus could go more cartoony...but Palutena is way anime/realistic. And what point are the Mario Princesses considered realisitc enough? Also you have to include Zelda characters if you're considering Fire Emblem/Kid Icarus. All except Too Link are very realistic humanoid characters.

4 added a lot of realistic human characters, but so did Melee. I'll probably do one on humanoid vs not.
