Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Another thing -
Even if they DO reveal a newcomer (regardless who it is) it will only keep us content for about 2 days tops. Then back to omg when is the next reveal whos next why didnt they xyz instead of abc etc. lol :chuckle:

I was looking at some of these interesting details in Melee, and I wonder if some could carry over to Ultimate. I want to see animations for when a character is chosen, like in 64 (it apparently was scrapped in Melee).

Snake and Pokemon Trainer are probably my favorite returning cut veterans.

I understood why Snake didn't come back in Smash 4 but nonetheless it felt kind of bittersweet to have so many 3rd Party characters in the game that probably don't even sniff Smash without Snake getting in the first place. Only Sonic and Megaman would probably still have some legit chance at being the first 3rd Party characters in an alt. universe Smash 4 if Brawl had stayed Nintendo characters only. And that's assuming Brawl wouldn't be a "Now or never" moment where Smash stays Nintendo-only after being that way for 3 straight games. Bonus points if the Codecs return (Though sadly I think there's a good chance they don't.)

As for Pokemon Trainer, I just didn't think they'd bring him back due to how a lack of transformations was praised for Smash 4 and it'd likely just be Charizard solo again. Pokemon Trainer really reflects the Pokemon series more then any of the individual Pokemon do. And they even addressed the problems critics had with Pokemon Trainer's gimmick had in Brawl being able to switch more quickly and removal of the stamina that forced you to switch otherwise the Pokemon you kept using would be nerfed for using them too long. You still are forced to switch on KO, but I'd assume you can switch twice to get back to who you prefer quickly enough.

The thing I'm hoping for the most at this point is a new demo build that has characters not in the original so we can finally get more looks at new changes.

(and in :ultrobin's case, see if their Final Smash is about to disappoint a lot of people once again)

Which returning fighter are you most excited for? This is probably an unpopular opinion, but for me it's Young Link. :ultyounglink:
On a personal level: :ultpokemontrainer: as I was a PT secondary in Brawl, and seeing Ivysaur revamped to be almost certainly decent this time (coupled with the new changes that benefit the trio as a whole) just excites me more than an actual Pokemon newcomer would have. I will say, I'll miss Rock Smash on Charizard, but the rest outweighs it.

As a whole: :ultsnake: for both representation (I love classic MGS and seeing it get love after so long FeelsGoodMan) and loving watching Snake being played in the game at a high level (Leo vs ZeRo on Frigate Orpheon brought back all the Brawl nostalgia). I do acknowledge he'll be different this time, but I'll still love playing him casually at the very least.

If we were to get a character reveal at that japanese tournament i bet that it'll be either Reimu, Saber, Ashley, or K Rool.
Just give us one piece of new information for Smash Ultimate in this livestream (I don't care what they reveal, just give us something we don't already know about for Heaven's sake)! A New Character, A New Stage, A New Alternate Costume, One New Piece Of In-Game Modes! JUST PLLLLEEEEEEAAAAASSSSEEEEEE SHOW US SOMETHING WE DIDN'T ALREADY SEE AT THE E3 DIRECT/THE SMASH ULTIMATE WEBSITE CHARACTER TRAILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also! When I translated the Japanese info on Google Translate! This Is what I got
"Aim for 3 consecutive wins! Winning Challenge In Jump Victory Carnival 2018 Tokyo Venue"

I feel like the tournament's a way for people in Japan to play the new Smash Bros.; it's not like everybody can go to E3 in order to try the demo.

It would be nice if they made a demo like that available on the eShop, but it would be datamined within a day, and there could very well be something like the material that revealed Ryu's inclusion in Smash 4.
There already was an event to play Smash in Japan, RAGE. And it didn't receive coverage from Nintendo (still waiting to be corrected I might be wrong).

That's the part that I think is important to think about. It's the first event Smash is at that Nintendo is covering since E3. We can't really just compare it to every other event. Anyway I wouldn't put much confidence in it until Sakurai makes mention of it, but I'm totally gunna watch it anyway.

Sonic was planned pretty early in Brawl, so we probably would have get him anyway.

Wait, what's this talk about a upcoming Tournament? Enlighten me, or face my fury.
Nintendo of Japan is featuring more footage of SSBU next week, with some tournament formatting. We might possibly also get more reveals too, whether it be for characters, assist trophies, stages, game modes, or even alternate costumes!

Honestly, Young Link and Pichu are some of my favorite returning characters (that weren't in Smash 4).

Snake, also, but mostly because of how absolutely cool that is.

That seems like the most promising for new information that we’ve had so far. New footage or is it just more demo gameplay?

I think this was my point. Not that it's likely we will get any info or that we should expect characters but that it's the most promising event since E3 since Nintendo is actually live streaming it.

Sorry if I wasn't clear before , I'm not saying get your hopes up, just that it's defintely intresting and different from what we've seen so it deserves an eye on it.

Oooh, sweet, I must have missed that. That is awesome. Thank you, guys. ^^

That is awesome. No idea how much one can expect from this, but I could see some of those un-released Mario Tennis characters be shown off, and, if super lucky, some new Echo Fighter for Smash? Assuming this is even something with the potentional to reveal brand new info. Either way, new footage is always nice. ^^

We don't want to look at your package!

Is it bad that I think that it's good that Solid Snake's rear is less disturbing to look at now?
I was talking his character select screen render...

...but I do miss the Solid Booty Snake used to have

:ultsnake: and :ultlucina: are the only ones I found a bit weird and even they look good.
M faves are probably :ultrobin and :ultrob:.
Lucina's is actually one of my favorites, she looks so much better than her in game model, her hair in particular

Meta Knight has the best render though, the cape and all those little details on his mask make it one of the best renders from any Smash game imo.

I'm sure this has been done already but I looked at the artwork with all the characters and looked for the most obvious holes. I came up with 7, which seems like it could be a likely number.

A New Leak that I kind of find to be possible since it is in such close detail.
http://boards.4chan.org/v/thread/423373783/super-smash-bros-informations
This is the leak:
Hello, I can share some info about the new Super Smash Bros. game for you. Obvious but english is not my main language so sorry if I can't write correct. I have info about the new fighters. The thing is that maybe I don't know about all the fighters and there are some newcomers that are just rumors in the office and I have no way to know if they are real or not, but I will share it since it there was some rumors proven real more early in the development.
A Newcomer that I can 100% confirm right now is Geno from Super Mario RPG and is representing the Super Mario series but Square Enix as well.
I have seen some moves but not all: I know that his Side Special is a Beam coming from his Arm that open from his elbow and that his Normal Special is a Disc that He can throw upward or downward too. His Down Specials seems to be a reflecting move or a shield using a rainbow star (I don't really know for sure). I think his Up Special seems to be multiple lazer that he shoots downward. His Finals Smash is him transforming into a cannon and shooting at the aiming zone. He uses headbutt for a lot of his moves and there is 1 move where he takes his arm with his other arm to attack. Also, I have seen a 3D Model for Mallow but I have not seen it in the game for now (Assist Trophy?). I will post more information with other posts. Keep looking if you want to know. I will not only talk about fighters Dixie Kong from Donkey kong is another Fighter that I have seen. I have seen her model and 4-5 moves. I am pretty sure that she has one of the biggest double jumps of all the fighters (like Mewtwo but less round). One of her Special is her shooting a bubble gum with a plastic gun and the gum does not damage but slows down enemies for sometimes. Her Up Special is her blowing a bubble gum and floating into the sky for sometimes, the bubble can be destroyed. I have seen two of her Smash Attacks one is her smashing a guitar to the ground the other one is her swinging her ponytail to the ground left and right multiple times. She also grabs other fighters with her ponytail. I heard rumors saying that she can float with her ponytail if you keep pressing the Jump Button. Elma from Xenoblade Chronicle X is one of the newcomers I have seen almost no info. All I know is that she has two forms: a Human form and a Mech form. While in Mech Form she can fly if you press the jump button. I am pretty sure that she can only take some damage in mech form (50%?) before destroying the mech and not being able to return into that form for the time shes alive. She can shoot with a gun in her mech and form and kicks a lot in human form. I can also pretty much confirm Mimikyu is the new Pokémon newcomer. I have seen the most moves for her. Her Normal Special is a unique move (Mimic) where can make a ghost looking clone of a close fighter and put it in front of Mimikyu. The clone will move with Mimikyu and the next move that Mimikyu will try to do (Normal Attacks, Specials, Throws, Areal attacks, etc) will be the ghost looking clone doing the move from the character that got cloned. Mimikyu got a special effect where she is cannot be knock backed for the first move that hit her. After that, her heads fall down. You can put the head back up with charging bar with Down Special. When her head is up, she can retake the next hit without the knockback. Her up Special is her glowing with a pink sphere and going up. Her Side Special is her Wood Stick growing bigger and having a dark aura and slamming the stick in front of her doing it in the air crash her down. She uses her ghost claw in a lot of other moves. Very Floaty character, but slow on the ground. The final Newcomer is just a rumor, but I believe it to be real. I heard a lot about Bandanna Waddle Dee from Kirby to be in Smash. I also heard that there is already work for DLC right now. This rumor, however, seems to be more real since I have seen the series logo and some models. I,m pretty sure Spring man from ARMS, Rex from Xenoblade Chronicle 2 and Octoling as a Inkling ε are the DLC. I heard that Spring Man will come out in Winter 2019, Rex in Spring 2019 and Octoling after E3 2019. I will now talk about the Echo FIghters or ε FIghters:
I am working with the Echo FIghters so i know them a lot more than the newcommers.
The last 3 ε Fighters are:
-Funky Kong for Donkey Kong
-Isabelle for Villager
-and Ninten for Ness

All ε have the same moves but there is some difference with Knockback, damage and angle of Knockback.
Ninten has a big redesign like Roy for Smash for Wii U and 3DS (probably to make him different than Ness). He has a different colored hat and has a lot of Whiteb in his costume. His Shirt does not have Yellow in it and it looks more like White star on a black and blue shirt. He has 3 difference with Ness in their Specials. PK Thunder is a lot faster so more difficult to control, Pk Fire is angled Up if Ninten is on the ground and PSI Magnet is has a bigger protection.
Lucina has Tipper on a bigger part of her Sword but her Tipper does less knockback. Also, Her Specials seems to have more range than Marth's
I do not work in this department but it looks like you'll get information a lot. I also think myself that you'll know about Geno or Dixie Kong first since they seem to have the more time put into them for now.
Also maybe Mimikkyu since she has a lot of developpment right now. To continue with the ε Fighters: Dark Pit 's Normal Special has a lot less curve in his arrow, but his Side Special seems to do a lot more Knockback than Pit's and go further.,Funky Kong Up Special seems to work a lot different than Donkey Kong's. His Up B is Funky Kong Spinning on his Surf Board. The Hitting part is down instead of Up like DK. When Funky Kong use Up Special on the ground, he just does a fast and powerful Surf Board Swing instead of spinning. I think you'll get normal information in July and August will have 1 or 2 big info since the work that is supposed to be revealed seems to be 90% ready instead of 100% ready to show to public. Daisy, the ε Fighter of Peach have only 2 specials different. Her Toad counterattack does no damage but Stun the enemy (Like Corrin's Normal Special) Also when using her Down Special, she has a chance to pull out The Freeze Item and the Beehive item instead of the Bob-Omb and Mr. Saturn. Isabelle has a countdown on her Pocket and she loses the item when the countdown is finished (It is like a Clock on her Pocket Icon over her %). But the Projectile that she pockets is massively enhanced. She has only 1 Balloon on her Up Special, but she jumps instead of fluttering. She also cannot ride her Side Special but the explosion of the Rocket is bigger. I only said it was heavily rumored and probably real, but for your information, Mewtwo was worked on before Super Smash Bros. for Wii U was released. It is just the start of development for these character and they will take a lot more times to make than Mewtwo.
I have not seen a lot of new stages but I can say the ones I saw:
-Fountain of Dreams
-Yoshi Wool World
-Gamer
-Summit
-Pupupu Land from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS
-Rainbow Road
-Rainbow Cruise
-Mute City from Super Smash Bros, for Nintendo 3DS
-Wii Fit Studio
-New Donk City from Super Mario Odyssey
-NLA (From Xenoblade Chronicle X)
-Throne Room (From Super Mario RPG)
-Saturn Valley (From Mother 2)
I cannot promise anything but I think I can take pictures of the Geno, Mallow and Funky Kong Models Monday and upload them the same day or the day after (So In my prediction Today or Tomorrow, on Wednesday we can tell if it is fake). It looks like the Bowser Battle from Super Mario RPG. There are two big platforms that are the chandeliers. These platforms swing if theres to much movements on theme.

So in my opinion this could be really probable, what do you guys thin

My favorite cut vet is easily :ultpichu:. She was my main back in Melee and I'm glad that I can play as her again. She... also looks like she's a legitimate threat this time around. At least from what the footage of her gives us.

Honorable mentions include :ultwolf::ultsnake::ultpokemontrainer: (specifically Ivysaur)

I'm most excited for Snake and Pokemon Trainer. I'm a huge Pokemon fan so having someone who represents the series so amazingly is great!

On another note, while skimming through the last pages I saw the words "Tournament" and "Ashley" thrown around.
SOMEONE BETTER START TALKIN'.

I don't play in tournaments only cause they're here on our island (Damn I wish they were):( But I have shielded a fully charged Shadow Ball Foolish arrogance indeed. Never again not unless I was sure I could perfect shield it from far away.

Mmm, I don't think there's anything too outrageous here but it seems pretty fake to me.

Though imagining the two chandeliers and Geno in Smash Bros made me tear up a little.

This honestly seems fake but not only Mimikyu! But also that neutral special sounds awesome!

Honestly Elma having a mech form is what ruined it for me...how would that work visually???

I'm most excited for Snake and Pokemon Trainer. I'm a huge Pokemon fan so having someone who represents the series so amazingly is great!

On another note, while skimming through the last pages I saw the words "Tournament" and "Ashley" thrown around.
SOMEONE BETTER START TALKIN'.
Nintendo have set up to stream their participation in the events of "Jump Victory Carnival" in Tokyo, where they will be showing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Mario Tennis Aces.

Considering the timing (Robin was shown on the second Monday of July in 2014, this stream is occurring on the second Monday of July) people think they might have something new to show. Considering it's a Japan only thing, people think that, if they do show a New Character, they'll probably show someone popular in Japan specifically.

Someone like Ashley.

Of course, it could just be a Tournament (and probably is), but Nintendo livestreaming it themselves is something worth noting.

Which returning fighter are you most excited for? This is probably an unpopular opinion, but for me it's Young Link. :ultyounglink:
For me it's Wolf and Ivysaur.

For me, it's :ultsnake:, easy. He was a favorite of mine in Brawl, since no one else plays like him. Definitely the most hype announcement so far imo.

It's not just a Demo, it's a Demo Sakurai said he saw some bugs in.
The Fox Side-B nerf could actually be a bug.
I fail to see what it matters. We'll never know either way if it gets adjusted to 4's version.

Its just semantics. Fox has plenty of other nerfs already mentioned that didn't need to be there considering many other top tiers are pretty much about the same. (as far as we can tell)

I'm just hoping they will nerf Bayonetta. Keep Cloud the way he was in the demo. Adjust the other top tiers to their 4 state. And then buff those lower tiered characters, within reason.

THEN if any issues arise they will likely be far more managable than the 1st release version of 4 was. But we already know this isn't gonna happen. It would be nice though. :^)

:ultpichu::ultpokemontrainer:

Pichu because I actually really wanted him back as a semi-clone of Pikachu. He's too cute to leave out.

I wasn't happy about Trainer's inclusion but I can't stay mad at it. The changes they recieved are fantastic and once more I am reminded that Sakurai is amazing because he actually included Leaf. Even The Pokemon Company has been ignoring her so its nice to see her in something.

I could easily end up maining the two if Mimikyu isn't in.

I don't play in tournaments only cause they're here on our island (Damn I wish they were):( But I have shielded a fully charged Shadow Ball Foolish arrogance indeed. Never again not unless I was sure I could perfect shield it from far away.
I have gotten into a volley match with many Mewtwo, and I full of bravado tried to reflect my own ball back at them...

Oh... my foolish pride.
