There's a Japan-only Nintendo Livestream about Smash Bros. and Mario Tennis next week (it seems to be a tournament of some kind?), they... might reveal someone then. Time will tell.

I saw it as likely being a similar event to the previous announcement on the Japanese Smash blog.

If there's a specific mention by Sakurai this week on the blog that isn't just "look out for the event/start time, how to view/etc." THEN maybe. I know I'd love to eat my own words.

Marth looks so pretty in this game. All the pretty boys looks much nicer in Ultimate. Very happy about that. I will guess the next update will be about Lynn, maybe.

Sure but when have they done that? People speculated about reveals for both Smash invitationals, EVO, various conventions etc... but we only ever got them for E3, Nintendo Directs, and other livestream events we knew about ahead of time.

Honestly, i kinda agree with Sakurai. For some people, the technicality of the game is fun. but i agree about the prize money part. kinda odd just to get money for playing a game. Your supposed to play the games for fun. not money.

Last time I checked Japanese tournaments didn't pay money. I guess this is just cultural differences.

Mei Ling: It's alien technology, Snake, which I doubt that you'll be able to get your hands on. Also, to even use her Varia Suit to its fullest potential, you also have to be very flexible and athletic.

Snake: I get that she's flexible, but how is rolling up into the shape of a ball that small even comfortable for her to do repeatedly? Shouldn't her ribs be crushed or something?

We need to stop freaking out every time Nintendo announces something.

You know that Japan Expo in France that just ended? The one where everyone thought a newcomer could possibly get revealed? Absolutely nothing happened. No new character was revealed, no new stages were seen, and no characters got disconfirmed.

This tournament thing in Japan that features Smash and Mario Tennis Aces could very well be just a tournament and nothing else.

I agree that not every single gaming event is a possibility for an announcement but this is Nintendo livestreaming something themselves (as far as I know they didn't live stream anything for the France event, CEO or Rage).

Not related to your comment, I also think it's totally ok to look forward to little things like this. Like don't assume it will be King K. Rool but who knows what could happen. Gives me something to look forward to at the end of the week and that makes me happier so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

(Once again not based on your post. But I feel this forum has a tendency to shoot down fun and hope way too fast. Like I'm just excited Nintendo is live streaming Smash content. That's cool.)

I do think it's intresting that it's the first thing Nintendo is posting about Smash since E3 and the blog obviously.

Unless I'm totally wrong and they did do coverage of the other gaming events Smash was present at but I didn't see any.

I have not compared, but I thought he looked nice. Maybe it is best I don't compare, then, hah. I am happy to have the more pretty-boy-y version of Ike back, as well. Very glad they gave him that alt 'costume'. Still waiting for Gerudo Link, Wedding Dress Mario and Zero Suit Duck Hunt.

So, do we think the'll randomly drop a new echo fighter in the site or such? Or, should we expect things like that to only be in major video form? It'd just be hype to get a surprise reveal of, like, Dark Samus or whatnot. ^^

People say that at literally every tournament/event with Smash, and it never happens. I would recommend everyone assume it won't happen, and possibly be pleasantly surprised.

Young Link coming back is pretty great. He was easily one of the legit forgotten characters in Smash so it's pretty cool to see him back.

I'm happy for pretty much all of the previously cut characters, but particularly and , I think they brought something to their respective games that hasn't been filled since they were cut.

I would have been much more hype for Ivysaur if Pokémon Trainer's Pokémon weren't still forced to switch on death, would have been a potential secondary even.

I loved how Nana is more expressive this time. It's cute when she reacts to the things Popo does.

I love those details. I also like how they fixed the wobble and such with them (hate things like that), by having her not be able to join in things like that. Tho, apparantly, Nana is no longer playable, I think. :s Or so people said.

I am very excited for most veterans, tho I am most hyped for Squirtle and Ivysaur. Never thought they would both return, I loved them in Brawl.

Of cut veterans? I'm excited for most of them except Pichu and the other parts of Pokemon Trainer. May well end up playing Young Link to replace Link from Sm4sh.

Honestly, i kinda agree with Sakurai. For some people, the technicality of the game is fun. but i agree about the prize money part. kinda odd just to get money for playing a game. Your supposed to play the games for fun. not money.

I agree with Sakurai on most of the things I've read about the technicality of the game, but one thing in particular I actually enjoy which most people don't is relatively low hitstun and relatively sparse combos.

The reason is interactivity. In many fighting games, if your opponent starts a combo then there is often categorically nothing you can do but wait until your opponent finishes. Your input doesn't matter. There are few things less enjoyable than getting hit and watching as your character slowly loses and you can't do anything about it.

I am pretty excited for Young Link, surprisingly. Wasn't a fan in Melee, and I dislike Tink, but the Classic Link does seem cool. Also Snake, since I thought he didn't fit in Brawl, but I'm excited to see him return.

Still, most excited for? No question.

Charizard is cool and all, but the whole trainer concept and being able to switch between Pokemon is hands down the best way Sakurai has ever represented the Pokemon franchise on the roster.

I don't care if people think it's impractical. The gimmick is unique and it works so well.

Honestly I am just happy that everyone is back, but I'm not gonna lie: I squealed like a little girl when and showed up in the trailer. I was always indifferent about Snake, and after his reveal plus the "EVERYONE IS HERE" message (and the reveal that Pokemon Trainer is returning), I kinda put 2 and 2 together and figured out that Pichu, Young Link, and Wolf were probably returning, too.
