Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Fire Emblem is pretty ripe for echoes, IMO. For better or worse
Chrom could be likely as a Echo Fighter, but he also could not be in the game because there are three things to keep in mind:

1. With Chrom that would mean three characters from one FE game (Awakening) (I know it's the game that revived the franchise, but still that a lot from one game).

2. FE Heroes is a recent and very much relevant game with a definite future, mobile game or not. It's also one of Nintendo's most popular mobile games, and just like Awakening, and Fates I highly doubt IS would allow their chance to put characters (and stages) from their mobile game in Smash to slip through their fingers, that's like refusing extra money and advertising.

3. FE Three House will be released too bringing about the scenario as FE Fates did for Smash.

Despite all these factors, Chrom still as a good chance to make it in but only if it's with or after another unique FE character. Despite how Sakurai said there was too much FE rep, if IS urges him to rep their mobile game, or future game, and his team and IS can suggest character(s) with a unique moveset, Sakurai wouldn't be afraid of breaking his own rules it wouldn't be the first time.

Or at least for a titbit not shown in the initial trailers. They coulc have said if Young Link's fire arrows are cosmetic like in Melee or if it works like Toon Link's custom in Smash 4.
Young Link's fire arrows aren't actually cosmetic. They do deal more hitstun than Link's regular arrows due to the fire.

If we ARE to get a new Capcom rep, I pray ebery god in any kind of religion for it to be Amaterasu. Okami is flat out one of the best games I ever played.

Guest fighters doesn't seem to selected based on their owner companies so I'd say her chances are slim.

Thought: Mega Man Zero also had a Mii fighter costume in SSB4. If he was confirmed, that'd bring more evidence to the "Mii costumes hinting at Ultimate newcomers" thing.

(I mean maybe, I just really want K.Rool and Geno...)

Oh man, if Zero happened to be character in Ultimate...

Bro, I couldn't handle it, I would die of excitement, especially if he has a costume based off his MMZ design.

Tho, if he is really a newcomer, he better have his MMX1 theme in his trailer, it's that or riot.

Also, think of all the Zero (the smash player) jokes we could make.:4duckhunt:

I've joined two years ago and I still feel like a newbie.
Same here too.
I would really want Amaterasu in the game with this move set
Jab: Reflector technique 5 winds
Forward tilt: Rosary technique Spirit Armageddon
Down tilt: God technique Digging champ
Up tilt: Sub "Seven Strike glaive" attack (can be charged like in game)

Up smash: Secret brush technique Inferno tech
Forward smash: Brush technique Power slash (half/full charge breaks sheilds)
Down smash: Secret brush technique Thunderstorm tech

Neutral special: Sub "Devout Beads" attack
Up special: Brush technique Vine
Side special: Glaive technique 4 shears
Down special: Sub "Trinity Mirror" Reflector counter-attack

Neutral air: aerial bead swing
Up air: upwards glaive swing
Forward air: forward glaive swing
Back air: backwards glaive swing
Down air: downward aerial glaive swing

Grab: bite
Pummel: Reflector smack

Up throw: backflip kick into air
Forward throw: hard reflector smack
Back throw: God technique Fleetfoot backwards into throw
Down throw: Throws on to ground and they bounce upward

Dash attack: God technique hardhead

Up taunt: Howls upward like victory howl
Side taunt: crouches, growls and roars like battle intro
Down taunt: yawns, lays down and falls asleep

Victory screen: rising sun up above as howl with fanfare music
Victory screen 2: layed down asleep as issun bouncing around her

Home stage: Gaurdian tree of Kamiki village

Skins: Amaterasu, the 9 karmic transformers

Unique character attributes:
God technique holy falcon: spinning jump animation has hit box
All charges work like in original game
Wall cling has mark of kabegami
Wall jump causes ring of flowers and plants like in game
Run causes plants and changes color the faster you run
Water tablet: Can walk on water
Fire tablet: No flinch for fire
With every move and mechanic being like Okami''s in game style and working but adding a hit box on her up special.
That's a great moveset, it's so clean. The only thing I'd change is so that Down B would switch between her three Divine Instruments each one giving a new moveset and Neutral B like MvC3 but if that doesn't happen then I hope they go with something similar to yours.
If we ARE to get a new Capcom rep, I pray ebery god in any kind of religion for it to be Amaterasu. Okami is flat out one of the best games I ever played.
No arguments here here's hoping she comes to smash.

Lol, guess that "known" leak about "King" reveal on July 9th is fake. Gonna cross that whole leak off the list
(I know the day isn't over but I mean you can't trust leaks in the first place)

Even though the website says the 8th I’m taking that as the leak being fake which ain’t a big surprise

If we get anything this month maybe at the end of this week seeing as how that Captain falcon thing was posted on the 14th last time I think

Hell, I think most of us agree that we don't even need a FIGHTER reveal necessarily, just a full look at some of the stages that haven't been directly shown yet. I'm so interested in seeing what the updated Gerudo Valley looks like. I wanna see the entirety of Fourside. Is Brinstar Depths in the game?

Hmm....

I don't know, you have good points, but I can't help but think that there will be somethin' about IC that will make them decent, new engine or/and tweak to their moves, tho in any case, they will definitly feel like different character, which I can see alienate old fan, which must suck.

In any case, I think I stop here before I say stupid or somethin'. I'm a optimistic kind of guy, I like giving the benefit of the doubt before calling something terrible, and I do ton of research around games I love/have interest in, so while I am not a competitive player, there is still some cool stuff I know about Smash in general. But I don't main any character in particular, I like varying my playstyle, so I won't act like I know better than someone maining said character in a past title.

On those words, I hope you have a great day sir.
I am largely just jealous of your optimism!

To me a lot of the fun of Ice Climbers was their ability to punish people grabbing them - it made them play out of their comfort zone and was worth the trade-off of them being bad if you got rid of Nana. Without that aspect I'm just not excited for them again and have a very pessimistic view on how things will shake out for them.

It doesn't matter all that much anyway. I'd probably stick to ROB given he looks to be pretty heavily buffed now.

Have a great day yourself!

Exactly this. I get we already have all veterans and don't get this many newcomers so he can't show new characters all the time but at least show us anything new at all. I don't even care what.

Ugh, it hasn't been a full month since E3 and I already feel more hungry for information than I was before E3...

What would your reaction be in a hypothetical scenario where the main character of Dragalia Lost (this guy) were to be a DLC fighter for Ultimate?
I never heard of this thing until now.
He is extremely unlikely and I would be a little shocked if he was DLC. Would be a surprise to me.

Oh yeah. The ‘Items’ and ‘Stages’ sections aren’t even open yet. We have a bunch of stages in the backgrounds of the characters, but I want to see them properly.

I was so excited for Gerudo Valley, and then it was 3DS only so no big screen. I can’t wait to see that in HD.
Everyone thinks Fountain of Dreams is the most beautiful stage, so why was it only in one game?
Is Mushroomy Kingdom 1-2 back?
What’s the New Donk stage? Is Pauline’s concert a timed thing like KK, or does it always happen?

Or even the items! We’ve seen a lot at the demos, but some of those are still surpises to me since I didn’t watch much footage, and what I did see were competitive fighters ignoring items as much as possible. Banana gun? Abra in a Pokéball?

And the modes too. What will classic be like now? All-Star? Events?

There’s a lot they could drop without saying “Dovahkiin is playable!” (Though I’d love that one too)

I can tell you how the fanbase would respond. "Oh great, another anime swordfighter!" :troll:

But seriously, I don't have any connection with this guy. My reaction would be a blend of confusion, disappointment, and bitterness.

Hahaha! Don't worry, I have my bad day too, if it help.:p

I admit that the IC were character I never played alot in Brawl, Melee & any Brawl mods, I don't know why, but something felt weird about them. But now that they are back in Ultimate, I actually want to try them out and see what the Smash Team come up with them.

I definitly feel the fear that IC main have right now, but if I can, I want to give as much hope as I can. Right now, the Smash Team have taken alot of feedback both before the game was shown at E3, and after it was shown and played at E3. Not to mention that, there is no low budget, horrible deadline, ESS or porting the game to a inferior console to limit the developpment team, this is the most stable developpement phase that any Smash game had, all of this make me then hopeful that Sakurai and his team will do their best to sastify as much person as they can. ( even if pleasing everyone is impossible, but hey, that's just life)

So yeah, I know I said my previous post will be my last, but this one will be my actual last, sicne I have to go now, so, for real, have a great day!^^

Honestly, I feel like Banjo and Kazooie are more likely than Minecraft Steve. Yes I have said this before.
Minecraft is far more popular than Banjo and Kazooie, but Phil Spencer said that he was willing to let Banjo in Smash Bros.

Just an instresting article, your thoughts?

Honestly, i kinda agree with Sakurai. For some people, the technicality of the game is fun. but i agree about the prize money part. kinda odd just to get money for playing a game. Your supposed to play the games for fun. not money.
Hmm well in the terms of a sporting event winning prize money doesn't seem so silly.

I mean time and effort WAS put in on behalf of the individuals playing in a similar fashion to any other competition of skill.

Playing fighting games is easy, being good is hard. Which is why the Switch makes it easy, because literally a set can be put in at any time. Man, Capcom made the wrong fellows to be in bed with for SF5.

MvCI suffered a fate so bad they're not at EVO

Nintendo and everyone else having fighting games on the Switch, everyone but Capcom with their latest installment.

The amount of fighting games on Switch verses the amount that aren't is very one sided if you ask me.

With Namco for example, I think that might be subject to change due to them not a having a exclusivity deal with Sony. As far as I know, so we COULD see Tekken or Soul Caliber on Switch in the future.

By the way things are going I could is Mortal Kombat 11 being on Switch, I'm surprised Injustice 2 isn't but maybe there was some red tape around that, that people just don't know about.

Well to be fair, it would depend on how unique and fun their moveset is before I succumb to most or all of those feelings but I'd definitely be either disappointed or bitter that my characters got shafted for him in a already limited roster for newcomers

Claiming there are ways one is "supposed" to play a game strikes me as very naive. There's no such thing as a correct way to play a game, as long as you enjoy what you're doing that's the only thing that matters. Some people enjoy the competitive aspect of the game, and they definitely enjoy making money, nothing wrong with that.

As for getting money for playing a game, well, there's money in entertainment, and people enjoy watching pro players show off their skill. I'd find it stranger if they DIDN'T make money for that.

It's not really all that different from Sports Professionals, to be honest. They get paid money (often a worryingly large sum of it) to play a game.

One of them is more physical.

The ESports, of course.
Fighting games with huge rosters like Smash and games like Pokemon almost feel like a field of study.

Who is good against who?

What has change in this patch.

When does this come out on which frame?

Is this safe on shield/block? (has driven men mad)
( Many a day did someone try to shield from a fully charged Shadow ball... The fools the arrogant fools:ultmewtwo:)

Does that make this viable?

OH MY GOD you can do that with that guy?

Very taxing questions.
