On July 13, there will be ports of Captain Toad released for both the Switch and 3DS.

I am curious what the people in this topic believe in regards to us hearing anything pertaining to what Captain Toad content will be in Ultimate this week, and what content Captain Toad will have in Ultimate (particularly whether it will be represented by a playable character, Assist Trophy, or stage). I doubt a Nintendo Direct will be announced this week, and for the past month there has been no new content shown off on the Smash Blog.

However, I do think its clear there will be some sort of content for Captain Toad in Ultimate. Nintendo has not only decided to port this game to the Switch, but also the very old 3DS (its over seven years old at this point). However, I am not feeling optimistic on us receiving new information until probably the end of July or beginning of August. However, Sakurai did have a history of tying in pic of the days or veteran confirmations with new game releases.

It will be very interesting to see what happens this week, and I am curious how the rest of this community thinks will happen this week as well as their prognostication on what Captain Toad content will be in Ultimate.

Personally I don't really care if octolings make it or not.

I mean considering this game could last like 8 years when will the "now" be?

Also what do you mean this is the only franchise doing this? Every franchise has had people clamoring for a clone character. And if you mean only one from a recent franchise...thats a really hard thing to judge considering nintendo doesn't have many recently new ips. And even then I heard of ideas for Springman getting a ribbon girl clone.

And ultimately the reason is because people want to play as octolings. Why do you think there was even an octo expansion for splatoon 2? Because people really like Octolings. And that fact won't change by the time the next smash comes out.

People have been clamouring for playable octolings since splatoon first came out, I feel like you're underestimating their popularity and the octo expansion helped them significantly in that regard too. And they're also an easy echo and make sense as one so people will obviously want them more

I have no opinion on the Octolings but it would be a shame to clone the Inklings' moveset at all, nevermind in their debut game. The ink colours might be an issue but different shades of the color or Octoling #6 sharing the same ink as Inkling #6 for example would nullify the issue.

Timing is questionable as they featured in the original Splatoon. Not in the same vein, but they were created before Ultimate's beginning. It's the lack of their playable status in that title that begs the question.

...you're assuming I'm a diehard Splatoon fan. I'm not.

Third parties operate under a completely different set of rules. You know what. Splatoon is a first part IP. Every Smash game tends to represent the last generation of consoles. Every franchise that had any sort of appearance of note on last Gen consoles had a rep. Echo Fighters take basically no development time. It's not unheard of for a series to get multiple playable fighters in their first outing. We've already proven this with Fire Emblem, and heck, even Pokemon.

You're completely dismissing the possibility of a character simply because your ideas of how Smash rosters are decided are linear and incorrect.

The next super smash bros game will have 10 more newcomers. Each Month 2 new fighters will be annoced each month. It seems to look like each month one fighter would be a new fighter, while the other is an echo fighter. In july we will see Excite Biker, and Chrom from Fire Embelm. August will have King Krool, and Shadow the Hedehog. Semtemper will have Crash Bandicoot and Doomguy. Doomguy or crash may be an echo fighter because each month has on echo and one new fighter. October has Isabell from animal crossing as an echo for villager, and Steve from Mincraft. November has Funky kong, most likely an echo, and Lycanroc. December had Simon Belmont and Spike from the Mario games. Release Date December 7th

Lots of spelling errors, and supposedly either Doomguy or Crash and Spike (from the Mario games) are echo fighters?

- Microsoft and Nintendo's ever growing friendship couldn't have come at a better time... expect more than just a character and a stage.
- The smash ballot was never intended to be for Smash Wii U... expect fan favourites.
- The Wii U still has some material that will be seen in Smash Ultimate. It's extremely obvious.
- Ultimate will have Switch representation as well.
- Sony will never play nicely... could change after launch but for now expect more of the same.
- Ubisoft have 'characters' in the game.
- Sakurai loves Indie Games... that is all I will say. Again very obvious.
- Finally. Expect more reveals sooner than later.

Hey, its me, with another Super Smash Bros. Ultimate leak!

This time, I hid eight newcomers, that my very good sources have indicated to me that will be in the game, in a Where's Waldo image.

In addition, there are five veteran characters hidden as well. That means there are a total of 13 Smash Bros. fighters in the image.

If you want to figure out what characters I am leaking, you have to do some digging. And even if you for some mysterious reason doubt the veracity of this leak, its still a legitimate Where's Waldo search.

It'd be like say if Daisy had gotten a unique moveset based on her sports appearances, but so did Waluigi.

You have two liked characters debuting at the same time with a very similar moveset and now neither one feels all that special.

Hey, its me, with another Super Smash Bros. Ultimate leak!

This time, I hid eight newcomers, that my very good sources have indicated to me that will be in the game, in a Where's Waldo image.

In addition, there are five veteran characters hidden as well. That means there are a total of 13 Smash Bros. fighters in the image.

If you want to figure out what characters I am leaking, you have to do some digging. And even if you for some mysterious reason doubt the veracity of this leak, its still a legitimate Where's Waldo search.

Literally this. In the official canon Octolings are being seen as nothing more than Inklings with new hairstyles. They're that indistinguishable.

It boggles the mind that people hate Dark Pit for being basically the same as Pit, but there are people clamoring for Octolings that are basically the same as the Inklings.

It'd be like say if Daisy had gotten a unique moveset based on her sports appearances, but so did Waluigi.

You have two liked characters debuting at the same time with a very similar moveset and now neither one feels all that special.

I disagree with the wholeheartedly.

Marth and Roy both still felt special all the way back in melee. And yes, both of them. There is a reason "Roy's our boy" was a thing.

Daisy and Waluigi have the exact same moveset doesn't make any sense considering their proportions are radically different. Of course that would be a slap in the face for a lot of people. And even if they were both individuals who happened to have different sports themed movesets...I'm not sure why Sakurai would think like that. Because as we are saying Octolings would be an echo of Inklings. And that is fine because they do indeed play exactly like the regular Inklings in multiplayer and singleplayer. Having both Waluigi and Daisy be sports themed doesn't make much sense for a guy like Sakurai to do.

Inklings themseleves have a major 90's feel to their movesets. Like that spin kick they have as one of their aeirals. They scream "RADICAL." And who could forget the ink mechanics. I don't see how Octolings would take that away from them.

First off, Octoling will never be unique. There is no reason to do so. You could do it sure, but there isn't a real reason to.

They said Octolings will not and should not get another character. And I am arguing with him about why it could make sense for Octolings to be in the game and why it is ok for them to get another character. I am simply having a discussion with them.

Also while I said I don't care, it's more like that I wouldn't be heartbroken if they didn't make it in, and they would just be a pleasent surprise if they did.

No clone has ever been "needed" in Smash. Clones are purposely there to be extra, and they've always eschewed the normal standards of inclusion. And the rare clone that is truly crucial to include character-wise (pretty much only &) would've got in eventually regardless.


I don't really want Octoling, I agree that they'd detract from Inkling's uniqueness in their debut title, but there aren't any arguments against a clone Octoling that couldn't apply to existing characters.

At this point tho, unless something happens soon that corroborates one of the “dated” leaks, I’m just not gonna put any stock in any of them. The Victory Themes leak from yesterday did seem interesting (I would LOVE a Darker and Edgier fanfare for Wolf), but I doubt we’d see a Codename STEAM character.

On July 13, there will be ports of Captain Toad released for both the Switch and 3DS.

I am curious what the people in this topic believe in regards to us hearing anything pertaining to what Captain Toad content will be in Ultimate this week, and what content Captain Toad will have in Ultimate (particularly whether it will be represented by a playable character, Assist Trophy, or stage). I doubt a Nintendo Direct will be announced this week, and for the past month there has been no new content shown off on the Smash Blog.

However, I do think its clear there will be some sort of content for Captain Toad in Ultimate. Nintendo has not only decided to port this game to the Switch, but also the very old 3DS (its over seven years old at this point). However, I am not feeling optimistic on us receiving new information until probably the end of July or beginning of August. However, Sakurai did have a history of tying in pic of the days or veteran confirmations with new game releases.

It will be very interesting to see what happens this week, and I am curious how the rest of this community thinks will happen this week as well as their prognostication on what Captain Toad content will be in Ultimate.

I do think Captain Toad's gotta get something even if not a playable character. It did pretty well sales-wise and the game it spun-off from was 4th in the list of best selling Wii U games. The only first party game that was on the Wii U not yet represented in some fashion that did better is Tropical Freeze which can easily be done with a Dixie Kong reveal at some point.

I'm not even sure we get a reveal at all come the day the Treasure Tracker port comes, I'm not even sure we get a reveal at all this month. I'm starting to feel like they may save newcomer reveals only for directs (Which I'm assuming the next one would be in August). But I'd like to be wrong.

Who knows, maybe we'll get 16 alts for each character instead of 8 (before anyone asks, maybe the alt Clown Car could be black or something, I don't know), and the Octolings make up the other 8 Inkling colours, using 8 different ink colours to the Inklings.

Octolings get in, play the same as Inklings, and give you more Inky options. Everyone's happy! (except those weird people who want a unique Octoling, they're livid)

Probably not, unless sakurai's perspective has suddenly changed he feels strongly about wanting a game to be completely finished when it's released and make the base game as content packed as possible
