Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

A mode I’m surprised isn’t in Smash yet.

How about a King of the Hill mode? One spot on the stage becomes the hill, and the person who stayed on the hill the longest wins.

Seeing how Smash is a platform fighter, it’s perfect for Smash, especially on the big stages like Great Cave Offensive and Palutena’s Temple.
Dang ole King of the Hill mode.

I don't mind the Target Blast thing. It's fun and easy to do with multiple characters. It's better than the same 5 Target Tests for over 30 character(slots) like in Brawl.

I'll take Target Blast or individual Target Tests over 5 Target Tests per character any day of the week. Plus, Target Blast get you trophies/customs, so...

QUESTION

I've never seen anyone around here wanting the presence of Online Game characters in Smash Bros.
What would be your opinion if characters from Games like:

Ragnarok Online (MMORPG)
League of Legends (MOBA)

Enter Smash Bros as TPs?
I think these are types of Games not yet represented, and that already has a great story.

I kind of doubt Rayman would be an AT since Ubisoft does not have a fighter yet, unlike Konami.
Honestly, if Rayman does get in, I could see the Rabbids getting in as an AT or an enemy in Smash Run 2.
lol rayman wasn't even ****ing acknowledged at ubi's e3 and i'm honestly ****ing fogged on when he last showed his face on a console. also what the **** are you on, hudson soft doesn't have a fighter yet and ****ing bomberman's an at. if anything rayman'd be the ****ing at and some rabbid would be the fighter XD

Rayman Legends just ported over to the Switch last year.

While Rabbids are the stars of Ubisoft now? I could see Rayman happening as he had fan support last time after his trophy and Rabbid Peach would have an annoying assist trophy where she tries to take selfies in your face. Sort of like a Nintendog situation.

Am I the only one whose opinion on the likelihood of a Generation 7 Pokemon being playable hasn't been lowered at all?
The most common argument that I have seen people use against a Gen 7 Pokemon is that there are already nine Pokemon on the roster, when such a thing did not stop Fire Emblem from getting six characters in Smash 4.
Honestly, if Sakurai finds a Pokemon that brings something new to the table, then he will add them in. Considering the fact that Pokemon is the biggest media franchise of all time, it would be fitting for it to be the first franchise to have ten fighters.

Despite the unnecessary swearing, I honestly think Rabbids are in a better spot for playable too.

They're more promoted, are very very popular, and already have a huge crossover with Nintendo's flagship series, which the fact Nintendo trusted Ubisoft enough to create Rabbid versions of their characters shows how big they are as characters.

Best case scenario is both are playable, but I think Rabbids are currently more likely.

Hudson was bought (and then destroyed) by Konami.

That seems very improbable, these are some pretty obscure developers. The highest-ranking MMOs are some of the more western types like Warcraft and Runescape. At least all the third party were big console/arcade names. This is a relatively new territory that I don't think even Nintendo had looked at yet.

I would love to see a stock mode where you have a different character for each stock. Make some battles very interesting.

IIRC this was actually a suggested game for people to try in Melee's instruction booklet.

Basically suggested for people to fight for control of the rock on Kongo Jungle.

Why are people so sure these characters like Shadow and Dark Samus are appearing as Echo Fighters? I don't see any reason to believe there's anything different with adding characters this time around (except that there will be less in general).

cause folk see an official term for clones and think it's time to open the ****ing floodgates. also daisy was apparently an e3 draw despite being a c/p of peach so maybe smash fans are just ****ing crazy nowadays.

I feel that most of the 7th generation contenders are less likely to make the cut now. Buzzwole is probably the best bet if you're looking for a potential fighter who would offer a new mechanic.

I'm not too bothered with Target Blast either. Even if people call it an Angry Birds rip-off, Target Blast takes much less development time than setting up Target Test stages for every fighter.

I think it really depends on which direction Sakurai is taking with the newcomer selection.
We don't know if Sakurai is looking at relevancy or the Ballot for characters. Could be both, for all we know.
If it's the ballot, then Rayman would have a better shot since the Omni leak and three trophies in Smash 4 lead many to vote for him in the Ballot. He does lack Japanese popularity, though.
If Sakurai is looking at relevancy, then Rabbids would be prioritized since they had a high profile exclusive on Switch. The only problem is if Mario + Rabbids came out too late for them to be considered for the base roster.
For all we know, though, neither could be playable and could be ATs.

These are the most/ only and likely/ probable to happen in my opinion.
All these other obscure and random left fields ain't gonna happen - they need a fan base and/ or some previous recognition in Smash.

Pretty much. My overall point is there's no reason to believe Rabbids are somehow being looked over. Rayman isn't being looked over either. Both clearly have a chance. I'm just of the opinion Rabbids are overall in a better position.

Which doesn't entirely mean much. I mean, few saw Young Link coming back, and most thought Ridley would never be playable outside of Mods.

Hey Maybe that Skull Kid and King K Rool Have a Great Chance to be in SSB5 instead Rayman or Steve(Minecraft)

Being glad a character came back isn't the same as thinking they were coming back.

Two different things.

I'm glad everyone came back, but many I thought would never return. Young Link is one of them. Same with Pokemon Trainer specifically. Pichu I thought had the best chance among the cut Pokemon after Mewtwo would return. Sakurai really takes us for a loop.

If Waluigi wasn't shown as an AT people would be posting he's guaranteed as a newcomer.
Any AT not shown is suddenly more likely to be playable - which isn't true - but it doesn't stop people from feeling that way.

I would still put Rayman ahead of the Rabbids, only because he would be easier to create a moveset for by drawing from the games he stars in. The Rabbids are a group, and would require more work to create a functional moveset and animations.

Not that Sakurai wouldn't be up to the challenge. But while the Rabbids have certainly done better on Nintendo consoles than Rayman has, I think Rayman's just easier.

At this point, I think all I want to see is an improved Stage Builder and Special Smash, Iron out the kinks from the former and add an option to make custom Break the Targets and Board the Platforms stages and for the latter allow us to customize each individual character rather than restricting everyone on a certain set of rules.

Some more fleshed out single player modes would be nice too. All in all, I'm liking how this game is shaping up so far.
