Didn't we rule out Mach Rider on the premise that Mach Rider uses a Machine Gun whereas the model used a Rifle?

the robot toy is called "Damashii Vifam" look it up and compare it to mach riders gun from the "push button 1 to start" screen from that game its pretty darn similar.

You could join the Michigan Smash Facebook page. I am also a Michigan smash player, but I'm in Ann Arbor right now and will be moving to Ohio soon. But anyways, if you get on the Michigan Smash Facebook page, you can probably just make a post asking if there's any tournaments planned for that area. I'm sure someone there will know.

What if the model robot is actually for Elma's skell and it's a part of her moveset that she can summon her skell and do massive damage while in it.

I really love Digimon and Pokémon, and I believe the inclusion of Agumon would fulfill a dream of seeing a fight between the two franchises.

I’d say Wonder Red. It’s more well known and is praised by a lot of critics. Plus, Wonder Red can have an even more unique move set with the abilities he can pull off.

Correct me if they released the official tallies, but, while Bayonetta was popular, I feel like there were characters who blew her out of the water vote-wise. I'm only playing devil's advocate because I've worked in games before and I know how things happen behind the scenes from a marketing-perspective (at least going off the games that I've worked on). I honestly think that she was already planned based on a popularity prediction AND marketing: she's a popular 3rd party rep with a developer that Nintendo has a good relationship with on top of the fact that she had a NINTENDO EXCLUSIVE game that launched at about the same time as Smash 4. Bayonetta might've been in the top 10, but I definitely don't think she won the ballot (or was even in the top 5).

Again, I'm not saying this is definitely what happened. I'm just talking based on experience in the industry.

That means that out of all characters that were physically possible to add to the game, Bayonetta got the most votes out of all of them.
This whole theory of "Bayonetta got in over the TRUE winner because she was RECENT and EASY TO MAKE and has a GOOD RELATIONSHIP WITH NINTENDO!" is just a prime example of fan misconception.

But how would that work?

I mean she would be massive in it! Unless you were reffering just to her final smash, in which case absolutely that's what most people are thinking. It's really possible.

Digimon is, while less impactful, to Pokemon as Sonic is to Mario. I think it'd be a great revival of that rivalry to have Agumon in Smash. I don't find it likely at all, but it'd certainly be cool and isn't technically impossible. So you keep doing you, Agumon guy.

I am at the point I don't really even mind who is added next now we've got Ridley and everyone back. More power to you for wanting Agumon and it would be nice to see...

...but I do think you're exaggerating. Digimon has its fans but this would not even be the same order of magnitude as Sonic's reveal.

thats the other possibility, thats what most people were thinking im changing my mind though cause we know mach rider was something sakurai wanted to do in the past, takamaru is not our retro rep and we have no obvious choice to be one (if we get one), and i feel like elmas mech would be her final smash or something and i think sakurai would only really want to get a model for a character themselves as he'd use that model to pose and move around to get an idea of how the fighters moves would work and look, elmas mech im assuming would just be a final smash and those are really closer to cut scenes than transformations this time.

So I think that some people assume that because this game was built from the "ground up" everything is completely new. I would honestly be shocked if they completely redesigned the engine they built the game with considering how easy it would be for them to use the existing infrastructure that was present on the Wii U. Make no mistake, this is a new game. Characters are redesigned, physics are changed, and the game will feel completely different, but I would imagine that the development time was shorter because they used the same engine that was used for Smash 4. Just because this game isn't a "port" in the traditional sense doesn't mean that lots of assets weren't ported over to this new game before they were edited/redesigned.

And that's okay. It doesn't make it less of a game and it doesn't mean it isn't new.

I get your feeling, but personally I find appealing the play with a fresh take in some of characters; and also see how people like the cut Pokémon (specially Pichu) plays in this new enviroment.

I hadn't actually considered Agumon as a contender until I saw the thread for him for Smash 4, then I realised it was something I wanted that I didn't actually realize I wanted.

It's a bit hard to differentiate how new "new faces" qualify for. Shovel Knight came out before Smash 4 ever did. And the gap between Smash 4 and Smash U is about 4 years when comparing release dates. 4 years is enough to qualify for a "long time" to ask for a character.

Unless we're talking purely promotional characters to advertise a game like

I think he meant about also having characters from recent installments than just ONLY fan favorites. Fan favorites are new in the sense that it’s the first time they’ve been added. But having it be just be fan favorites can make the roster easily predictable and not include any of the new things that have been introduced.

Did Sakurai himself say that the engine was built from the ground up? They released a balance patch for Smash 4 just 2 years ago, what's the point of building a completely new engine when you can just rework the old one?

And yeah, every Smash game reuses assets, this shouldn't be news to anybody. Smash 4 has animations ported over from Brawl that were unused for certain characters and still went unused.

I'd be down for Shovel Knight. That game was probably one of the best platformers I've ever played, so I'd be hyped for him.

I don't know what other fans would think of him, though. A lot of Smash fans have a...passionate distaste for indies, for lack of a better term. Actually, now that I think about it, a LOT of people online seem to hate indie games in general, which I always thought was weird but hey, to each their own, I guess. I personally would love an indie in Smash. I wouldn't even mind a character from Undertale, as it would mean that game's excellent music would be in Smash.
