What if his moves were faster but weaker versions of Ike's, or is that too different for an echo?

It's hard to say. We probably shouldn't get too ahead of ourselves when deciding what is or isn't acceptable for an echo fighter. They can have some unique animations and final smashes after all, and we only know of one besides those returning from Smash 4.

Now, what would define Ultimate for you?
I'll give some rules for this game.

You are to add up to "10" Nintendo characters/first n' seond party characters.
And you can have up to "5" 3rd parties.

Now, it's to personalize what would for "you" make the Smash from where it currently is, to the "Ultimate".
Which characters are left, who are realizable still that is.

I'll write mine, but in the mean time, I'd love to hear from your perspectives.
Try to reason why they'd be a good fit to make it your ultimate.

1st/2nd Party Picks:

1. Elma (Wii U Era) -
I think Elma is very possible candidate for Smash and fits just right at when Sakurai was looking for characters to add in this game.

2. Tap Trial Girl (3DS Era) -
I think it’s very possible that Sakurai may try again with adding in a Rhythm Heaven character (they also had a game come out in 2015, another relevant IP). For me, it’d pick the tap trial girl and have some of her moves summon other characters for various attacks if you press the attack button in a certain pattern correctly.

3. Lycanroc (3DS Era)
I already went to death on this character. Prominent Gen 7 Pokémon, unique rock abilities, unique forms that can make Lycanroc a stance fighter (well maybe just two forms), Popular Pokémon.

4. Issac
I think Issac has a good chance for this game, seeing how he’s popular character ever since Brawl, and had seen a lot of support from the ballot. He also has a unique moveset as well.

5. King K. Rool
Well he’s a very popular character, and seeing how he is another villian that has a lot of moves to pull from, I would add him as well.

6. Isa Jo
This is a nitpick of mine, but if any Sin and Punishment character get in, it’s gonna be Isa. He has a lot more move set potential than Saki and is also just looks cooler in my opinion. And if Saki ends up an assist trophy again, then that’ll leave us with just Isa left.

7. Ayumi Tachibana (Retro Rep)
I guess that Takamaru is an assist, I think that leaves me with Ayumi as the sole Japanese retro rep to get added in. I think she could be unique from the rest of the cast both in appearance and gameplay with finding evidence to strengthen her attacks. Also Sakurai seems to be a fan of the series as her series was very popular when it first came out and had it’s run, but that doesn’t go much further.

8. Will
I honestly don’t care about Andy and him being the OG character of Advance Wars, if any character from the series gets in, I want it to be Will, because he looks a lot cooler in my opinion. And DOR is a game I think stepped the series in the right direction after the previous game.

9. Rex and Pyra
I think the duo can lead for an interesting move set along having Mythra as well. Also with the success of Xenoblade 2, I would be more than happy to have them join Smash.

10. Impa
I feel that Impa would work be the next best Zelda character in my opinion. She’s a reoccuring character, and she could use a lot of Sheikah abilities from the series. Not to mention that using inspiration from HW could lead to a sick moveset with her large water sword and her naginata.

3rd Parties:

1. Sora
Tbh, I really like Sora, he seems to have a move set that can be interesting and unique, and is also a popular pick during the ballot as well. Not to mention he is the protagonist of a heavy hitter series.

2. 2B
If Sakurai pulls a curveball and adds 2B from Nier:Automata, I would be in shambles. I really like 2B and her design and the weapons she has, and I would totally be happy if she joins. She’s also made from PlatniumGames as well, which she at least has “some” connection.

That’s really what I want.

Who here thinks Ultimate won't get DLC just because it's supposed to be the "ultimate" version of Smash?

Chrom kinda does swing Falchion around like a two-handed blade. We see it in both cutscenes, like when he saves Lissa and Lucina from a Risen, as well as during the end strike of his jump attacks.

Now, he DOES use it single handed a ton as well, but...to be fair, a lot of Ike’s Ragnell swings in Smash are also one-handed.

The Fire Emblem Awakening situation is a little odd.

Lucina is a Marth clone. This much is obvious. Not only did she use the name and have a similar design, but Tiki actually thought she might have been Marth reborn. She just makes perfect sense to be an Echo of Marth.

Chrom's fighting style is a lot like Ike's. Brash, aggressive, uses Aether (I don't know why Viridi says he can't use Aether for recovery. Even if he doesn't jump like Ike during the combat animation, he does during cutscenes), etcetera. He could work as an Ike clone.

However, when they face off in Arena Ferox, we see that Lucina and Chrom have a nearly identical fighting styles (because Chrom taught Lucina how to fight).

So if Chrom is an Echo of Ike, but Lucina is an Echo of Marth... But their combat styles are both identical...

Yep, all the FE Sword users are the same.

Honestly it's pretty hard for me to do a top 10 at this point.

I've consistently managed to get so many cahracters I want im running out of characters.

Yeah I would ****ing die if Squall get in, and Inciniroar or Edea leas would be neat but they arent things I would be campaigning for at this point. Smash has already hit terminal hype for me.

I've entertained the idea of that. While I find it possible and wouldn't be shocked, I think that the game is coming out early enough into the Switch's life cycle that not doing some would be a mistake. This is, in my opinion, the single best game Nintendo could possibly make DLC for.

you can make strong argument this is the best game to make DLC for EVER from a monetary perspective.

Think of it this way... Most of us willingly paid almost the full price of SSB4 a second time... For 7 characters, with only 4 being totally new... Five less in all than the original N64 game. Nintendo has us by the proverbial balls and they know it. They could have priced someone like Cloud at like $15 and you know a wide number of people would have still opened their wallets with hyperventilating glee. The Ballot practically gave them a grocery list of characters that people have quite literally been dreaming about for nearly 20 years and, by God, you know Nintendo's going to commercially weaponize that after Ultimate comes out. Again, DLC's all but a done deal.

The only similarity between Waluigi and Ridley is that they're both purple.

Ridley is a character that had a massive fanbase rallying for his inclusion for 17 years. He has been in multiple mainline Metroid titles, he was the only major character from his series left to be playable, and is considered by any to be a Nintendo All-Star in his own right.

Waluigi is one of many possible Mario representatives introduced in a spin-off title to be a tennis partner for Wario. His fanbase is smaller than Ridley's and it wasn't until now that they cried out because they're mad Daisy got in and he didn't.

I'm not saying Waluigi isn't popular or that I don't want him in this game, but Ridley is a very special case.

First Party:
1. King K. Rool
Come on, we finally got Ridley, one of the biggest struggles of Smash is over, the Kremling King is the last classic Nintendo icon left. And really... that's it, he's the only definitive Nintendo character I really need. There are a few more I want, and I don't truly think this can be the ultimate Smash with the likes of Takamaru and others down for the count, but on a completely personal level, K. Rool is my most wanted first party, Ridley was my second.
2. Lip
My most wanted character from a series unrepresented in Smash, Panel de Pon is the best puzzle game ever crafted and she deserves to be remembered.
3. Mike Jones
The best first party NES game, but even more obscure than Takamaru. I'd honestly be surprised if StarTropics got any sort of mention in Smash.
4. Dixie Kong
The best member of the DK crew, it definitely wouldn't be ultimate without her.

And that's really it out of the viable choices left that I have any sort of personal connection with. So here are some honorable mentions.
Ashley - Great character design, super popular, would like to see despite my lack of interest in WarioWare.
Isaac - Haven't played Golden Sun, but his fanbase has stuck by him through thick and thin, I want to see him purely for their sake.
Decidueye - Not terribly into Pokemon, didn't even play SuMo, but this is the most interesting one of the bunch.
Insert New Series Here - Really at this point, I just want to see completely fresh new faces join.
I'm out of characters, so extra honorable mentions to the fallen, Waluigi and Krystal.

Third Party:
I can't even give five third parties, anyone that knows me knows who I want.
Banjo-Kazooie
Even after nearly two decades, it still feels wrong to even list them as third parties. Still a pipe dream to end all pipe dreams, but Smash will never be complete in my heart without them, they should have been in since Melee or Brawl, but now they're so far away.
Rayman
The only third party (that wasn't formerly a Nintendo character) that I truly ever wanted after Snake. Sonic was cool, and I loved Pac-Man, but no one can ever take the limbless wonder's place. The only reason he isn't my absolute most wanted is the above mentioned tragedy of a bear and bird.

They're already a subsidiary of Sega which has got Sonic and Platinum's Bayonetta.
