I suppose we could talk about what our ideal rosters would be, throwing out anything that's ever been done.

I'd FINALLY axe Jigglypuff and add Meowth. I'd add Sceptile cause he's my favorite Pokemon.

I'd beef up Donkey Kong's roster with Dixie, Cranky, AND K. Rool.

I'd add Simon Belmont and Ryu Hayabusa as classic Nintendo icons along with the already-existing Mega Man.

I'd cut Ness and the Earthbound series would be represented by Lucas and characters from MOTHER 3 alone so that there was a variety, so I'd add people like Duster and Masked Man.

I'd do the same for Fire Emblem, making the whole roster just characters from one game, like Awakening or Fates, so there would be a variety of fighting styles. Probably have Corrin, Ryoma, Xander, Hinoka, Camilla, Takumi, and Leo.



...But see how all that caters entirely to my ideals without considering the Earthbound fans and people who like literally any other Fire Emblem game?

I've been reading these past pages about Porky and the design issues and stuff.
I think it is entirely possible that Sakurai just decided to add more villains to do some fan service.
It is entirely possible he just went back to old franchises and thought of Porky, and saw the spider mech mechanic interesting and unique. I wouldn't be surprised if the spider mech was the entire reason he considered Porky, especially after Bowser Jr. Maybe he just wanted more characters that are combined with some sort of vehicle or mechanical object.
And I'm sure Sakurai could make it work, whatever spider design he chose.
Who knows, maybe we get Porky and Excitebiker just for that reason. I'm pretty sure Bowser Jr.'s kart thing set a precedence and Sakurai could have wanted to do more of that. I think that's something he would do.

sakurai strikes me as the type... actually "strikes me as the type" is an understatement, sakurai actively might add someone like porky to try and force nintendos hand to release mother 3 internationally. the guy has used smash to bring fire emblem to the west and revive a series like kid icarus wouldn't be shocked in the least if he added porky cause 1. returning villian from brawl 2. cool spider mech moveset potential and 3. sakurai knows people in the west want mother 3 and if HE acknowledges it in smash further and people keep requesting it, it might finally happen. He'd be keeping that hope alive.

the games a little "controversial" which is probably the main reason nintendo doesnt want to release it over here, especially cause its wrapped up in a clean kid friendly style, hopefully sakurais on our side here and this is intentional (if the leaks true of course).

Controversial is an understatement.
That game terrorized me when I first played; especially Porky and his whole dark and depressing story and fate, but I guess that's why he's such an interesting character, and why a good chunk of the community would want him in the next game.

I don't understand why it seems impossible to some to see him in the mech... I mean Ridley would need a redesign to a degree to work which no one seems to think is impossible so why not Porky?

Sakurai has taken liberties with character's before so they could fit in Smash... Zero Suit Samus and her rocket pumps come to mind... Bowser Jr.'s koopa clown car while a similar size to its normal portrayal is certainly a little smaller and kitted out with things we don't see in the Mario series games to make it work.. I don't see why Porky couldn't get a redesign to fit in Smash in his mech suit...

After all if we can imagine a character like K. Rool getting a redesign for Smash why not Porky who hasn't had an appearance in years aside from his Brawl boss incarnation. I cpull see Sakurai giving Porky a smaller mech to make him work.

Basically my vision of Porky for Smash is him crabwalking like the Brawl Boss in the purple mech scaled down. I imagine him being a little wider than he is tall, which would differentiate him physically from the majority of heavies. He'd also have solid reach with his spider legs and various mech abilities.

Mother 3 Porky could fit in Smash no issue.

A redesign isn't necessary as his sprite would be around the same height as Bowser and if it ends up too tall in Smash somehow then you could easily put it in the background and have him laying down most of the time.

I don't know how there even could be a debate. Porky's size is possibly the least concerning thing to prevent him from Smash.

But the funny thing is that he probably doesn't even need a redesign, nor a rescaling.
Like a couple people already said in this thread, his mech in Brawl was rescaled and made really, really big.

If we take Porky stature from the original games, he's just slightly shorter than Lucas and Ness, and his spider mach isn't that much bigger than him, so I'd say that it would roughly get to Bowser's size.

He should be fine as it is. And I don't think he would even have a problem with its animations.
I mean, in Brawl despite moving like a crab it actually looks fairly decent and threatening as hell, I wouldn't mind him moving like that as a playable character.

But maybe I'm just biased, I really like him.

I mean i'm a total 90s guy and the leak looks great to me but im just curious who would you want that makes it better? I legit would like to know what a younger/modern gamer would expect/want in smash?

cause ridley/k rool/dixie/wolf/simon/geno/snake/ice climbers are all characters who seem to be from what i can see, all heavily requested by most people who have been with smash for a while.

sora representing kingdom hearts feels like a lot of somewhat younger gamers would be extremely pleased with that, older crowd too but kingdom hearts isnt a 80s or 90s series at all and 3 is coming out soon.

mimikyu and elma are super current and I cant imagine expecting much more than that for stuff that came out in the last say 3 years. when i make prediction rosters its usually a pokemon thats new, a xenoblade rep thats new, and then maybe an ARMS rep is about the only other "new" character i can think of that seems missing here, and dont forget inklings are a newer crowd rep for sure too.

Goroh,medusa, chorus kids, and porky are the odd or at least less expected/requested choices but they fit and probably have interesting movesets and certainly a lot of personality, im not particularly partial to any of them ( though i think they are all good choices) so i dont think its that they are only appealing to an older crowd so much as they are from lesser played series and somewhat less expected/a bit obscure, but that applies to how everyone might feel about their inclusion regardless of age.

takamaru has older/retro fans but they are only in japan anyone whos a fan in the west (myself included) just likes the concept of him(a samurai character) or would love his series to be revived cause itd be a cool series for nintendo to do stuff with, but the game was never known about and played here until many many years later.

so again im not trying to be rude here or force "liking" of this possible roster leak but I honestly am curious what do you expect or what would a roster that would excite you even look like as i legitimately have no idea whats missing here. I could name a few characters I want that arent here, waddle dee captain toad waluigi etc... but its not like this roster wouldnt check a few boxes for seemingly everyone even if a few expected characters arent here.

and as a side note, if this does turn out to be true, keep in mind theres almost certainly DLC and "newer" reps like say an ARMS character or captain toad might be saved for that so you might be very pleased with the game after all is said and done.

I think it just overall doesn’t hit any of the franchises I wanted represented well.

1 Mario rep from a one-off SNES game, Geno is cool, but i was hoping for a bit more tbh.

The Pokemon front runners are debatable, but I have some distaste for Mimikyu. Even then, I think it’s reasonable to expect a second Pokemon rep, just having “evil/totally not Pikachu” rubs me the wrong way (I know there’s more to Mimikyu, but that’s the core of what it is.)

I really dislike the FE representation in Smash 4, but everything seems to be leading to it staying the same or getting worse, and this leak being called the “Ultimate Roster” without fixing that problem just feels wrong.

I’ve played Metroid games, but I just don’t see the idea of Ridley in Smash. I think this is where these kinds of leaks cater to the older generation that were more impacted by the games. Pretty much every leak and roster prediction has Ridley on it, with people even saying that he’s “extremely lucky” or “definetely in”. Didn’t Sakurai spend the majority of Metroid content in the last 2 games on conveying that he was not going to put Ridley in, and that he was somewhat infeasible for Sakurai’s standards? I’ll believe Ridley being in Smash when I see it, but I’m just assuming that his inclusion on leaks are fanservice at this point until proven wrong.

Then Zelda. Seriously, nothing? BOTW Link was a given, but I really want there to be some BOTW redisigns for the Zelda characters, maybe even just reworks for Ganondorf and Zelda would suffice. If this leak is real but the leaker couldn’t include something as significant as these Zelda things, then it’s likely they aren’t in the game and that makes me disappointed.

I will admit not being pleased with Sora is a bit my fault, I’ve never owned a Sony console so I’ve never played more of the core entries, or any of the entries at all on Nintendo consoles. I’m just both unsure about Disney actually working with Sakurai and Disney not infesting Smash with their influence.

Takamaru has been a lock for the retro rep for me, I guess I was so desensitized I didn’t care as much about him being on this leak. I’m excited for him as a newcomer, but since I assume all leaks as false until proven true I’m just not surprised or pleased by his inclusion in this leak. I just already think that he’s in, while that is definetely faulty speculation logic, I’m holding out.

The weird picks like Goroh, Medusa, Porky, they all just feel like ballsy picks to set the leak apart while appeasing Smash fans who associate themselves with those franchises. If you’re going to include obscure reps, then go outside the context of franchises outside of Smash: Advance Wars, Golden Sun, etc.

While Elma is current, I’m actually wanting Rex & Pyra. Not to say that I don’t think Elma won’t be playable, she definetely has a better chance, but Elma is associated with the Wii U. I just want this Smash to include a bit of the goodness and refreshment the (about)-first year the Switch brought us. Not including Rex and Pyra as part of the modern Xenoblade reps just makes me a bit disappointed with that.

I could’ve touched on a few more things but overall, this leak feels more like filling out the representation of under-repped series and games on the roster than actually including things that make more sense. The Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon representation is there, but severely lacking due the nature of these franchises with Nintendo and Smash. The leak is a culmination of taking the wishes of people whose favorite franchises are under-represented and fulfilling those wishes while having barebones to no representation for the more relevant franchises. Is obscure franchises getting reps bad? No, of course not. I’m just extremely skeptical of this leak for how some take it as truth while being one of the most off the wall leaks out there.

Honestly, I don't see the problem about Goroh, Medusa and Porky. Since people bring them up. Samurai Goroh and Medusa are some of my most wanted characters, I'd be ecstatic if they were newcomers! Porky? I don't care for, but I know fans of his will be glad, and we get more Earthbound. As Ness is my main, it would be great to see more love.

I only ever played Earthbound so my opinion probably doesn't matter much, but I agree. I also think bedridden porky is probably a little too dark.

I like Mother 3 Porky in the context of Mother 3. He's a character I feel is done perfectly in that game.

That being said, I don't really like the idea of a character that's so lifeless and expressionless as a playable character in a fighting game, especially if there's a better version of said character that's very expressive. Expressive characters make much better playable characters imo.

Yea the guy who made this list probably guessed Belmont meant also Snake in the game, because why not ask Konami at the same time?
Many people had the same reasoning.
There is nothing to believe this list is true...but oh boy I would soo love it to be.

I think the mecha spiders have a very different shape, having the same hitbox wouldn't fit for both.
