Your roster is pretty awesome! Excite Biker is a unique choice. I see how he could work after you explained it. May I ask what roster maker you used? I love your icons and would like to make one myself.75 Character Roster (15 Newcomers). As Super Smash Bros for Nintendo Switch will likely reuse source material and assets that were already created for the Wii U installment, all the characters from the last game return here.

- Link's design is updated. Hookshot is replaced with the Rune Magnet, Arrow is replaced with Ancient Arrow, Gale Boomerang is replaced with Boomerang, Bomb is replaced with Rune Bomb, and stage entrance is now Warp Travel.
- Zelda's design is updated. Down Special allows her to channel her energy.
- Sheik's desing is updated.
- Ganondorf's design is updated with Ancient Armor and many new abilities.
- Kirby's Final Smash is now Hypernova. (Would be cooler if it was Mike Kirby)
- Fox & Falco's designs are updated. Final Smash is Arwing Walker.
- Olimar no longer uses White Pikmin and Purple Pikmin, but instead Winged Pikmin and Rock Pikmin. His Up Special is now the jet pack from "Hey! Pikmin". The ship is from "Hey! Pikmin" as well. Alph now has voice clips.
- Villager's design is updated.
Paper Mario: Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon all have eight characters because in all past Smash games since Melee, they have had an equal share of characters on the select screen, with the exception of Mario characters sometimes having more. I chose Paper Mario as most likely because of his popularity and his new unique ability which is that he can take the form of a stack of papers and multiply himself. I believe this gives him the unique personality he didn't have before to qualify his inclusion.
Originally I had him and Captain Toad, but I think it would be a bit too much given that Mario had two newcomers last time.
Pauline: Pauline is one of the original cast members of Donkey Kong and she's become very popular in recent years, especially with Super Mario Odyssey. She's probably not all that likely because Super Mario Odyssey was late 2017, but I kept her because she has her other merits. Her unique ability is her parasol and her love of music.
Dixie Kong: I didn't consider Dixie that likely either. I have her here as a late addition semi-clone, similar to Wolf, because she's been a popular request and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze was a successful game.
Toon Zelda & Tetra: I believe these two are the most popular Zelda characters and they are definitely the most important given their recurrence in major roles in Zelda games. Especially recent ones like Wind Waker HD and Hyrule Warriors. I believe Toon Zelda is definitely one of the most creative newcomers on this roster because of her ability to shed her phantom armor and become her spirit form. I don't consider it redundant that they are of the Zelda bloodline. They are both completely different characters and all of the most important characters of the Zelda series are Link, Zelda, and Ganon.
Mimikyu: Mimikyu is clearly the most popular and promoted Pokemon of Sun & Moon. His role in the anime is extremely significant as he is a part of Team Rocket since the series began and he continues to appear. He was also one of the more significant Totem Pokemon in the game.
Celica: Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is the most recent Fire Emblem game. Because of this remake, Celica is now one of the few characters to have multiple games where she is a main protagonist along with Marth & Ike. I chose her over Alm because she is more unique as a preistess and she appeared in Fire Emblem Warriors. And the fact that Fire Emblem Gaiden is such an old game, makes her popular with both new and old fans of the series.
Excitebike: The Excite series is one of Nintendo's most successful series. It is also the ninth best selling Famicom game. Excitebike's unique ability is that his specials do MASSIVE damage, but as a result of using them, his bike overheats. This is demonstrated by the meter next to his character icon during battle.

Pichu: With the addition of Dr. Mario, a lot of people have been requesting Pichu come back. The reason I have him and not Wolf, is because he is quick to make. Though we may see as many as 80 characters, I would not be surprised if Wolf came back.
Impa: Impa is another popular request. I originally had her as a costume of Sheik, but instead she appears as a taller and more muscular clone of Sheik as they are both Sheikah and share a similar body structure. As a result of being buffer, she's not as agile. She uses Giant's Knife as her Final Smash, which functions identical to Cloud's Final Smash.
I didn't have a picture of it, but Impa appears as a younger version of herself from Breath of The Wild.
Sheriff: Sheriff appears as a legacy character as he is the oldest Nintendo character of all. I'm aware his game was a flop, but I think with a shortage of easy pickings, he is going to appear as a new criteria of newcomer. In Melee, there was a desire to have a true Famicom representative. I believe this time there will be a true arcade representative, someone who has only appeared in an arcade game and didn't have a sequel, similar to how Ice Climbers only appeared in a Famicom game and did not have a sequel. I believe this is the installment where the timing is perfect for Sheriff's inclusion.
Sheriff's unique ability is that he has eight directional attacks instead of four. All of his tilt attacks fire his pistol in a different direction. His neutral special is a charge shot. Again, he can use this to fire in one of eight directions, but the shot is more powerful and it suspends him in midair for a breif moment. He uses a whip in his smash attacks, similar to Kirby's cowboy transformation. His Up Special is Condor, his side special is Bandido, and his Down Special is Barrier (He hides and shoots behind the wooden post that has numbers on them).
I have a concept for the stage as well. It takes place inside the Sheriff Arcade Cabinet and the border around the screen can be seen. It's basically like the popular "Box" Custom Stage. Opponents cannot be KO'd until the dots around the screen are broken open.
Bomberman: Bomberman is probably the most requested third party character. The amount of Bomberman games is enormous and a lot of them are Nintendo exclusives.
Bomberman's alternate pallet swaps are the Bomberman Brothers from Super Bomberman R.
Simon: After Street Fighter and Final Fantasy getting characters, I believe Castlevania is the next big third party IP to have in Super Smash Bros. This series too has a history with Nintendo on the Famicom & Super Famicom.
I don't have any characters from Arms, Fire Emblem 16, or Pokemon 8 because of how late their debuts are compared to when this game probably started development.
I love your roster but I dont get how Rex and Pyra can be on it when an ARMS can't considering ARMS came out first.75 Character Roster (15 Newcomers). As Super Smash Bros for Nintendo Switch will likely reuse source material and assets that were already created for the Wii U installment, all the characters from the last game return here.

View attachment 143761

I really liked this roster. My only problems is that it cuts Roy (it's kinda unfair for his fans to cut him a SECOND time) and I'm kinda sceptical about Joker's chances, regardless of how much I love Persona. But other than that, well done!
My reasons for including him are extremely detailed if you hadn't read them. I think if there were more shoo-in characters, I would take him out in favor of them. However due to the lack of obvious options, I think being a character from a critically acclaimed game made by a Nintendo-faithful company helps him a ton. Of course, as pointed out in the afterthoughts, he is still my bias pick.I really liked this roster. Xenoblade is an IP that's existed since 2010. The reason I don't have Arms is the reason Melee had Roy, but not Olimar. Roy was brand new and so was Pikmin, but Pikmin was a new IP, while Fire Emblem was not.If rex and pyra are going to be on your list, there's 0 reason for springman not to be there.
Based on timing you can have spring man, and miss rex, but it doesn't work the other way around.
Yeah, I don't really agree with the "If we have XC2, we have to have ARMS" argument for this exact reason. I do think ARMS is still possible, but I think XC2 is more likely.Xenoblade is an IP that's existed since 2010. The reason I don't have Arms is the reason Melee had Roy, but not Olimar. Roy was brand new and so was Pikmin, but Pikmin was a new IP, while Fire Emblem was not.
Xenoblade 2 has been in development as far back as 2014.
Pauline has been in been in 10 Donkey Kong games and literally one Mario game. The world Pauline was in in Odyssey was surrounded by references to Donkey Kong & Donkey Kong Country, that's why she's the mayor of New Donk City. Super Smash Bros for Wii U labeled her a Donkey Kong character. If Pauline ever gets in, she's gonna have the Mario emblem. Yeah, she debuted in Donkey Kong, but the DK franchise in Smash focuses on DK country. Plus, there's probably people that don't know Pauline is actually a pretty old character. They're gonna associate her with Odyssey more than DK.
This the biggest thing that hinders 3rd party characters. The willingness of the IP holder to work with Nintendo and reach an agreement. Konami has burnt quite a few bridges in recent years and I wouldn't be surprised if working with them is extremely difficult for Nintendo to do or if they even want to. Konami has quite a hatedom not only with the gaming community as a whole but with other gaming companies.you're right I actually DON'T think that Konami can be reasonable as a company
Essentially perfect (and my most wanted geno isnt there and i still say this would be perfect). Sadly knowing sakurai he usually chooses NOT to give us what we expect... and at this point I'd really rather get an expected roster like this and have him break his pattern of "surprise couldnt guess those characters could ya!" and just give us the few remaining character who SHOULD be here. this roster does that and more. This is pretty close to what I tend to be guessing myself lately though I tend to drop the ARMS rep (i just feel sakurai waits series out a full console before reping them) and drop the rhythm heaven rep in favor of some totally left field WTF character, im always back and forth if ridley will ever be here so sometimes i switch sylux for him as i feel metroid deserves someone new, and I usually have three third party characters but otherwise looks just like my own prediction roster(s), i like it.So I wasted my time doing something that might be interesting. By going through the roster thread I created a roster based on the characters most predicted/requested.
Just some notes
- I didn't bother counting up veterans as most rosters did not have cuts, it seems the consensus is there will be none.
- Captain Toad and Toad were counted together. Overall definitely saw more Captain Toad though.
- Chorus Men just represents a Rhythm Heaven character. Counted separately none of the Rhythm Heaven characters were predicted/requested enough but together they were. I figured it was fair since no one is quite sure how the series would be represented, but on average people expect a Rhythm Heaven character.
Overall this roster is kind of....lack luster??? However it does have some of my most wanted including my number one so I wouldn't complain. Just doesn't look like what we will actually get lol.
So what do you guys think?
Wait, since when suprise element has been the deciding factor in character picks? All of the newcomers in Smash For, barring third parties and Corrin, was pretty easy to predict in retrospective.Essentially perfect (and my most wanted geno isnt there and i still say this would be perfect). Yeah, remember all the roster predictions with Wii Fit Trainer and how well-received they were by the speculation community?Wait, since when suprise element has been the deciding factor in character picks? I think what was osby meant was that all the choices in the game made sense, although they weren't predicted. Wii Fit makes total sense in retrospect, and you're kidding yourself if you think otherwise.Yeah, remember all the roster predictions with Wii Fit Trainer and how well-received they were by the speculation community?
Because I'd appreciate it if you'd remind me of that happening.
Everythings easy in retrospect but characters like game and watch, r.o.b., wii fit trainer , dark pit, toon link, dr. mario, rosalina... I feel like sakurai gets pretty wacky in his choices, far from what people were guessing at before brawl and then smash 4 his choices get pretty out there from what people expected imo anyway, and then the final roster tends to look nothing like what people guess at when we are at THIS stage in knowing the newcomers for a smash title. Even whos cut is tough to guess with sakurai, corrin instead of getting wolf back? no one and i mean no one would guess a chaarcter from an unreleased game would be in instead of wolf returning. sakurai is wacky.Wait, since when suprise element has been the deciding factor in character picks? All of the newcomers in Smash For, barring third parties and Corrin, was pretty easy to predict in retrospective.
Rhythm Heaven is successful and popular, there's no reason to reject a character from it just because it isn't unpredictable enough.
Also no offense but "x needs someone new" is a really weak argument for putting in a character like Sylux.
Nice, it's pretty similar to mine. Don't see how it would be lackluster though since it has some long requested fan favorites, two returning vets that were cut, and the newer characters that are expected to make it in. I'd say this is a pretty likely representation of what the roster will end up looking like. Curious to see what you think we will actually get.So I wasted my time doing something that might be interesting. By going through the roster thread I created a roster based on the characters most predicted/requested.

Well there is nothing wrong with being unpredictable but I don't think some of his choises were THAT unlikely. Wii Fit was a important franchise and Rosalina is... well, popular (her trailer in Sakurai's Miiverse has the second most notes in any pic of the day). And Toon Link was obvious from Wind Waker's success and Young Link.Everythings easy in retrospect but characters like game and watch, r.o.b., wii fit trainer , dark pit, toon link, dr. mario, rosalina... I think you miss read what i meant, im not trying to say rhythm heaven needs to be dropped for a WTF character just that I usually dont have it and went on to say instead i pick something very left field for that "spot", didnt mean to make it a competition between a WTF and rhythm heaven getting a rep, could be both could be neither thats just what my personal rosters look like. not saying rhythm heaven wont get a character or anything i was legitimately just saying what changes in my own roster choices from that one, and just to be clear why: i think rhythmn heaven had its shot last time and missed getting in smash 4, i of course could be wrong here we'll see.
just to give metroid another rep isnt the ENTIRE purpose of why i sometimes pick sylux over ridley when making rosters but supposedly he has a big part to play in metroid prime 4, thats my main reasoning for assuming he might get in. but i will argue that yes when metroid, a series with a big upcoming switch title, at this point only has the main character twice as the only rep and has been on the roster since 64 i do think needing more characters there is a legitimate reason to add someone from the series if a character can be added.
No new Zelda rep would be disappointingSo I wasted my time doing something that might be interesting. By going through the roster thread I created a roster based on the characters most predicted/requested.

This was a good read. I particularly enjoy the idea of using the Sheriff as the legacy character of the game.75 Character Roster (15 Newcomers). As Super Smash Bros for Nintendo Switch will likely reuse source material and assets that were already created for the Wii U installment, all the characters from the last game return here.

How do you make a roster like that? It looks really nice compared to the standard roster maker roster.View attachment 143815 I heard we were posting rosters so I figured I would post mine as well.
Cut Characters: Greninja, Cloud, Ryu, Doctor Mario, Lucina, Dark Pit, Lucas, Roy
Greninja: I see Greninja being replaced for a 7th/8th party representative. Which isn’t to say I want him gone, it’s just I think its chances of returning are questionable given the circumstances.
Cloud and Ryu: While I love these two additions, I see them being on a similar circumstance as Snake as one-time 3rd party characters.
Lucina, Dark Pit, and Doctor Mario: Removed to be added as skins.
Lucas and Roy: Removed for more character additions.
DLC characters: Wolf, Ice Climbers, Hero of the Month, Bandana Dee, Chrono, Shovel Knight, Crash
Ok, with that out of the way, let’s look at the newcomers I have listed:
Captain Toad: Captain Toad is certainly a character that has been making the daily rounds due in part because ports are confirmed for both Switch and 3DS. There are arguments that Captain Toad cannot jump so therefore he shouldn’t be included but I consider that a non-issue. There can be also ways around that using a sort of weight/stuffed backpack mechanism which ways him down. As for Peach’s neutral, let’s let Toadsworth take the pain. Toadette is a skin.
Impa: Despite Impa appearing in almost every Zelda game, she doesn’t really get much representation but I guess that would be due to her usually being casted as an elderly woman. Skyward Sword, Ocarina of Time, and Hyrule Warriors though were different; especially the later. Sakurai and his team doesn’t have to make Impa in the way that Hyrule Warriors did but they could possibly incorporate an Ike/Shiek-type hybrid.
Ridley: Ridley is never too big. Scale him down slightly and make his the first Giant character. Ridley would be larger than Bowser but lighter than Ike with confusing disjointed hitboxes and varied hurtboxes. In addition, despite being a giantweight, he is a aerial master with some of the best aerial performance within the cast.
Dixie Kong: Why hasn’t she been included yet? It’s a crime really. Saying she would be a Diddy clone is a serious injustice against her. Apart from her hair-based attacks, she could utilize her saxophone, changing her body size, and using her hair for gliding making her an aerial fighter like the aforementioned Ridley.
King K. Rool: I invision Smahs Switch incorporating characters in under represented franchises that deserve their spot. DK and Metroid certainly deserve those spots after all this time and I think King K. Rool rounds it out nicely. A heavy weight with a projectile emphasis would be quite interesting. Plus, he could have a number of interesting skins referencing his penchant for cosplaying!
Hero of the Month: First DLC character on the roster. Who knows when we will get Fire Emblem Switch but if it comes out before Smash Switch, HotM could be a potential addition.
Bandana Dee: My second DLC addition. Bandana Dee could use the spear for spacing and zoning with wide sweeping attacks that keeps opponents on guard. His small frame also makes him a harder target to hit.
Decidueye: It is my top pick should Smash Switch come out before Gen 8 does or before it enters into the conceptual phase. That being said, I don’t mind trading Decidueye if there is a more interesting 8th Gen Pokemon. Decidueye would use mixture of its arrows and area-wide attacks that effects the stage. Plus, it’s final Smash would tether all enemies and render them unable to attack.
Elma: Elma comes from a highly acclaimed Xenoblade title and easily the most recognizable face n the game. Plus, she is a dual sword/gun wielder making her an instantly unique character in the game. Perhaps she has two sets of special moves: one for her swords and one for her guns making her a first in the game.
Rex and Pyra: I don’t know much about Xenoblade Chronicles 2 but Rex and Pyra could be an interesting duo who uses attacks together in a rather seamless way.
Takamaru: A front runner for the Retro characters, Takamaru would obviously be different from his AT version much like how Little Mac was. Using various samurai/ninja techniques is hit forte. He could combine both blinding attack speed with graceful movements.
Isabelle: An unconventional fighter who has unintentional moves that deal damage; much to her surprise. Her dash is her tripping and rolling along the ground. Her Up Smash is pulling one of the celebratory poppers. And one of her Specials is constructing a Public Works.
Inkling: An area zoner specialist whose ink negatively affects her opponents movement, speed, and traction. The Inkling excels in controlling and manipulating the stage. Plus, a number of gadgets and weapons gives him/her the edge in other characters that can exploit her/his small size and light weight.
Spring Man: Spring Man is similar to Little Mac in that he utilizes punches but he is different in that his punches have a much longer…much much longer reach allowing him to deal pain from a safe distance. In addition, to combat those who can get in close, he could have a few close up options as well.
Rayman: Rayman is highly expected from what I can gather. He comes from a franchise highly connected to Nintendo and has a moveset pool that is adaptable to Smash. Plus, Rayman content was included as trophies in Smash 4.
Crash: Not a character I want personally but his recent announcement on the Switch plus the Cloud factor leads me to thinking that Crash would be an interesting addition. Plus, it would piss off Sony fans like Mega Man and Cloud’s inclusion did. Plus, nothing would hype people up more than Crash in Smash.
Banjo-Kazooie: Much in the same vein, Banjo-Kazooie would he total hype and would be a welcomed addition back into the Nintendo fold. While he is owned by MS, they seemed alright with Banjo being in Smash 4 in a series of tweets back in the day. Many people grew up playing BK and their inclusion would really hype up the game.
Chrono: Yet another oddball pick if Cloud does not return and to represent Square-Enix. While Chrono trigger isn’t given much love from SE, it would be silly to say that Chorno Trigger didn’t have an impact on the SNES and deserve a spot in Nintendo history. It is still seen as a highly acclaimed and industry changing game with memorable characters, story, and music. Plus, Chrono would be the sword mage character that Robin really isn’t. Using his sword attacks to execute powerful lightning spells. Plus, he can call upon his allies for combination attacks.
Shovel Knight: The hero that Smash deserves. Shovel Knight would be the representative on the indie games which is something considering how many iconic characters are in Smash. Shovel Knight would be a heavy hitting character with great health and defensive capabilities but a small frame and heavy weight making him a bit hard. Thinking of trying to hit a cannonball that is jumping around. Or maybe Pikachu in a suit of armor.

Photoshop. I don’t like how the fonts are all different sizes so I might fix that soonish. I’m also slowly making rosters for recolors of each character. 8 Smash 4 color swaps plus 8 more of my own so 16 total. How do you make a roster like that? It looks really nice compared to the standard roster maker roster.
I wish there was mobile friendly software for roster making.
i could see it, xb2 started development in 2014, if they pulled a gamefreak they could have given sakurai the lowdown on rex/pyra well before the release of the game.I love your roster but I dont get how Rex and Pyra can be on it when an ARMS can't considering ARMS came out first.
Fudge cakes, I forgot Olimar, I guess I'll settle for 70. Although it feels too big. Maybe I should do away with Ridley and Cloud and opt for Bomberman over Lara Croft >_>I want to revise my roster I think
Here were my last two

I don't want the roster too big (well I do, but I don't think it will be) so I'm trying to keep it under 70. Things I want to change
Solidify Decidueye as new Pokemon
Maybe Rhythm Girl in favour of Karate Joe, less certain on this one?
I'm less convinced on Rayman now
Bring Back Cloud, I think maybe add Lara Croft on top as a curveball third party.
Maybe Bomberman (with Snake as DLC)
Less convinced on Spring Man, but if we get him, I'm really thinking Ribbon Girl clone
Ridley. . .. Ugh I dunno. I'm so conflicted with him
Maybe add a new hardware rep, I lean towards Parabo and Satebo but it's really hard to predict. Diskun feels possible though and is probably far more likely due to the fact he is still remembered every now and again. Yeah actually he makes more sense.
Captain Toad I'll probably keep back in. Although I do consider his jump problem a potential issue. Remember Sakurai has thus far refused to resize Ridley.
Crash Bandicoot even without the Trilogy I think is a possible candidate.
Wolf I'm keeping off, I'm thinking if he comes back, it will be as DLC.
Shut Up I'm keeping Skull Kid
OK I think I'll start my list
So I guess if I'd update my roster
Starting at 52 characters. Cutting Miis and clone trio
From most essential to least
53: Inkling
54: Bandana Dee
55: Rex and Pyra
56: Stylist
57: Excitebiker
58: Diskun
59: Chorus Kids >_> (I really can't make my mind up here)
60: Crash
61: Another Third Party,
62: Dixie Kong
63: Decidueye
64: Skull Kid
65: Isabelle (potential clone?) she could also be unique. Hard to say, if she is a clone though, I think she'll be the sort to stick around
66: Ice Climbers (should be higher but I forgot)
67: Spring Man
68: Ribbon Girl (definitely clone)
69: I'm probably going to regret this, but Ridley
70: another Clone I think. Leaning towards Impa, Daisy or Octoling. I'll go Daisy because a: Don't want another Zelda clone
b: Octoling as a playable character feels too new and felt too unimportant as just enemies
Reduce to 69: Corrin backlash was extreme. In addition to the amount of Fire Emblem characters, I'm going to cut him.
Will keep Cloud.
So I'll make 61: Lara Croft
That's 15 unique newcomers (well 14 + Ice Climbers)
3 clones
7 cuts
That doesn't sound so bad
That would make for a layout of 5x14

Could someone help me with a picture ? I only have a mobile
As for DLC. I think we'll see more of than in Wii U. I think Lucina is very likely due to her popularity, like all clones like her who get brought back, she'll have a more differences.
Wolf is natural I think.
I think for third party. I'm thinking Bomberman and Snake back. Maybe Spyro or Rayman but am not sure.
I think we'll get a Gen 8 Pokemon too
Also maybe even less popular veterans, Like Dark Pit and Pichu.
Can't decide on Dr. Mario.
Could also get some Bayonetta 3 and Metroid Prime 4 tie in.
And maybe Corrin as DLC again?
I think if not the base game, we could finally see fan favourite King K Rool too.
Nice roster but I disagree with you on a few things about cut characters:Cut Characters: Greninja, Cloud, Ryu, Doctor Mario, Lucina, Dark Pit, Lucas, Roy
I do want a Zelda rep, but since this is based off of what people were predicting / requesting in the roster threads, there was no solid agreement on a new Zelda rep. Impa was definitely the most predicted/requested but many also simply put no new Zelda rep.No new Zelda rep would be disappointing
I think of all the choices Impa is the most predicted one and hopefully most likely
If a costume meant anything then MegaMan would get recognition from Capcom and get tons of games instead of "just" Megaman 11 and Legacy collection since they keep shoving MegaMan costumes and cameo in their games for yeaaaarsIf we get Skull Kid as the new Zelda reps, I might die of excitement. He also feels like a now or never situation as he and his game have become a lot more relevant and remembered within Nintendo .
Should I point out the Skull Kid costume in Monster Hunter Stories?
Skull Kid and Midna are casually sailing by Sakurai's massive Smash yacht in the S.S. DoWeStillHaveAChance boat.If we get Skull Kid as the new Zelda reps, I might die of excitement.
