The only two on that list that would do what you said are Banjo and Geno.
Waluigi could be good from a viral marketing sort of standpoint, but otherwise I'm pretty sure a general audience wouldn't get as much out of any of the rest as Smashboards would.
Banjo wouldn't even get nearly that much. Waluigi is actually more well known at this point, which is saying a lot. There'd be some praise for Banjo, but it specific appeals with the n64 fanbase, with little else beyond that. The character is hardly iconic.
I like the character and all, but many are just going to shrug due to this. Geno isn't much better. The issue is a lot of those choices, actually, all of them, are fairly lesser characters with the most known being Waluigi among the list. Bandanna Dee could go either way, as while it's clearly a major character in the Kirby series, it's not all that iconic nor a big deal to many people.
3rd parties can often get a nice reaction, but not niche/obscure ones. Bringing Cloud back would satisfy way more in this case. Remember, a key focus here would be appealing to the most to get the biggest attraction. Iconic Nintendo characters or Iconic 3rd Parties have a way better chance of doing so. Impa would tilt some heads, and that's the issue with many of those. They aren't major characters by any means at this point(Dee aside among that list, and arguably hasn't been nearly a mainstay in the same way as the current Kirby trio, just getting there).
Overall, someone like Ridley would actually get a bigger response due to the fact the character has become infamous among Smash itself, though he's not nearly as iconic as he could be. K. Rool has a similar point, but far less iconic.
