I have a question. Why does most everyone talk about Ridley in Smash? What is it about Ridley that people can't stop talking about him? To me, he was just a double form boss you fought in the SSE. I have played SSBC a few times, and I don't even care about Ridley in that game.

Partially because he's the main and only recurring villain of a long running Nintendo franchise that's fanbase has a lot of crossover with the Smash fanbase.

He's also one of the few Nintendo characters that's consistently appeared in games since the NES era (1986) up until now, and the only (iirc) Nintendo character to appear in every single Smash game yet not be playable.

When there are a lot of other possible candidates, I don't think it's really a good idea to put so much hope into those two. Although King K.Rool's popularity is acknowledged by development team, 95% is still a bit too optimistic.

Don't worry I'm fully aware that they may not make the cut once again and I'm prepared for it. I just feel like this time around at least one of them will.

We really are getting close to E3 season.

I like these kind of "leaks" that go way too much into details, just because they get the imagination working. Like, nobody who'd have an actual leak would go this much into detail, but it presents a hypothetical scenario that's pretty fun anyways. The reaction from the Smash community to this scenario would also be hilarious, Crash and Spyro would really burst the "too recent" argument to bits (not to mention make a lot of people's childhood dreams), and a Ridley tease would send his character thread into overdrive.

According to Nintendo's recent sales report, last year's amiibo sales actually rose from 2016.

I'm not particularly shocked by the hiatus of amiibo announcements. As a whole, the first half of 2018 has been fairly quiet for Nintendo. Making any more new amiibo than what they've currently announced would seem forced (unless y'all want a bunch of Mario Tennis Aces amiibo). As for the retailers clearing them out, I've heard that's because Nintendo wants to make room for their Labo sets. Can't blame em. Labo needs the push more, and amiibo will probably continue to sell well regardless.

It doesn't really makes sense for Nintendo to discontinue amiibo when it's continuing to make them a profit. Personally, I think quite a few will be unveiled at E3 this year to go along with Smash, Prime 4, FE 16, and (dare I dream?) Pokemon Switch. If that doesn't end up being the case, then we can start discussing when Nintendo will officially announce the death of amiibo.

It definitely feels suspicious to not see a single amiibo at a retail store though, especially when you consider that the Nintendo Switch utilizes them for certain games. But I guess the lack of amiibo can make sense if a retail store isn't able to sell the unpopular sets.

It seems that rage was introduced to Smash 4 to buff heavies, because heavies are generally low-tier with few exception. Is there a better way we could buff the heavies? The best heavy in the entire series I can think of is either Snake, who is not often discussed among the heavies, and PM Donkey Kong. If have never watched ThundeRzReiGN play DK, you don't realize how scary he is. But for the other heavies, Sm4sh DK, Ganon, Bower for sure, how could we help them become viable in the next game?

Bowser and Donkey Kong are C-tier in the last game. I wouldn't call that unviable. Apart from that, there's not much you can do. Make their attacks and movement a bit quicker and make them even stronger, but in the end competitive Smash revolves around speed. Heavyweights can't easily be top tier in the current style of how tournaments are played.

I just feel like this kind of reveal is super out there. I don't really know this purple dragon's relation to Nintendo and if Sakurai would reach to the developers that made him. It doesn't help that the leaker seems to just say they are going to just casually mention him at the beginning with Smash gameplay?

I think realistically out of Activision only Crash has a real shot at least at DLC given Crash is also quite popular in Japan (They even have a unique Japanese design for him on cover arts that would work perfectly for an alt)

But Spyro's a bit more of a longshot even with the Reignited Trilogy. Since not only did that come later then Crash's, but Spyro isn't the known commodity in Japan as he is in the West. To Japanese audiences, Spyro isn't any more significant then your average 3D platformer at the time because they botched the ports of the first two games on Japanese Playstations somehow.

Anyways, Smash 5 being the main focus for E3? Consider me intrigued. Nintendo's been doing fantastic for their presentations lately, can't wait to see what's in store.

As for predictions, I'm gonna guess we get the silhouettes in the teaser revealed, as well as two or three newcomers, with at least one new third party being among them. As for who they will be? It's anyone's guess. Although I did hear that they will be focusing on ballot results for this installment (if someone could confirm this it would be appreciated), so that may give us some leads on who they will add.

On an unrelated note I'm getting a feeling that this game's aesthetics will be a blend between Brawl and Smash 4.

I'll second Monster Hunter. The series is huge in Japan and still had a good fanbase internationally before World was even revealed, and it's been such a rising star in terms of third party franchises that it wouldn't surprise me if it was at least given consideration.

Not much of an update in smash but at least it's guaranteed now E3 is when the lid on smash is blown.

Yeah, Monster Hunter has really thrived on Nintendo consoles and I guess it’s only a matter of time until Switch gets a new MH game (not counting the XX port).

Not sure how many would be iffy with a third Capcom character though. I don’t believe in ”reps” so I’d honestly not care lol.

Lara doesn't even break any fan rules. Like literally what's the fan rule preventing her from inclusion? Not even Cloud breaks any rules.

Although one character any particular that I think people sleep on is a Dragon Quest character. Given the amount of stuff it's gotten in recent times and being a favorite of Sakurai's I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a character in this game. It's also somewhat iconic as well so there's that.

Lara's got guns. Dual pistols is her things. And unless Bayonetta broke those and isn't considered a case of her guns being fantasy like. Sakurai apparently has a thing about guns.

It did not mention Animal Crossing. Touched on all the other big titles (Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Smash, etc), but no Animal Crossing.

A Mii fighter costume most certainly means something and we know this because it is Sakurai himself who has said he used them as means of giving people the option to play characters they can't that they might want.

It is literally him acknowleding ''Hey, these are people I'm aware you want." And we know he will work to get fan demands in game if he can come up with a moveset for them.

Honestly, we got so many mii costumes im at the point that I think they mean nothing and everything.

K rool, Takamaru, and Geno got mii costumes which seems like it should be big since they aren't exactly relevant characters for promotion.


But then characters like Chrom, Viridi, and ****ing Flying Man got mii costumes and im like "ok maybe mii costumes mean literally nothing."
