What do you guys think of bowser getting a Dry Bowser Costume?
View attachment 402301
I’d love it. I’m already using a Dry Bowser costume mod in Ultimate that’s really cool but it would be great to have it in the main game.

What I really want is for Dry Bowser to bring back Bowser’s Melee moveset but buff it enough so it can actually compete.

Hopefully they add waluigi instead of having him as a assist trophy
I mean, come on. He is definitely coming. I know people here think that saying that something is a 'lock' or 'guaranteed' is a stretch but I will still be absolutely gobsmacked if Waluigi doesn't become playable in the next Smash game. He is the single most requested and most hype (for the general audience always) 1st party character. His popularity has sky-rocketed to levels that I think are higher than Ridley or King K. Rool with the whole 'Waluigi4Smash' and all (with Nintendo even acknowledging his popularity). Like, I just don't see a way that he doesn't get in the roster this next round.

What about Pauline? They’ve been using her more and more lately.
The thing with Pauline is that people assume that she will be the next Rosalina - something that is not entirely true. Gotta remember that Rosalina was chosen for Smash before she made the jump into 'Mario mainstay' status. One could argue that even if she hadn't become as prominent as she is, she'd still have made it in Smash regardless. So there's not really an argument about 'Rosalina became pushed and got into Smash and same will happen with Pauline' for that reason. I am not saying that Pauline is impossible BUT she is already fighting for the '2nd Mario newcomer spot' at best and that's if Sakurai can think of her as a worthy addition for Smash in terms of moveset (like he did with Rosalina as her filling an archetype by herself) for her to get in before Waluigi

Mario tends to get more than one newcomer every Smash game, so I could easily see us getting Waluigi and Pauline next time. One’s a classic fan favorite, the other’s a og character who found new relevance as a breakout star. They’d both be great additions.

Sorry Toad fans.

Sorry Geno fans.

Waluigi is the most likely, but it's a tossup after that. Toad has popularity but not necessarily any interest from the devs to promote him. Geno could be outprioritized by other Square Enix characters. I see King Boo and Kamek and Pauline all being considered, though the first two are likelier due to clearer moveset potential.

So apparently a Chrono Trigger remake got confirmed by Yuji Horii at a convention in Naples. Chrono Trigger has always been one of my favorite SNES RPGs so I hope this leads to it getting some sort of representation in the next Smash.
Awesome. I’ve been hoping for that for over 20 years! As a bonus, this finally gives me an excuse to talk about Magus more often here. I can go into more detail later but, to keep it short, I feel like Magus is actually the best candidate for Smash for a few reasons. First, he’s more visually and mechanically distinct from Hero. Second, he actually has more plot relevance throughout the series that Crono himself and was planned to have even more.
Magus is also the only character who was planned to be in all three games. He’s in Chrono Trigger and Radical Dreamers and there were big plans for him in Chrono Cross (which got scrapped for time but his sister Schala is still a major part of the narrative).

I’d happily take either but I’m pulling for Magus because he’s one of my favorite characters ever.

Was literally just about to post this. Dude apparently blurted it out like it was no big deal. Of all the god damn ways for this to get revealed lmao.

The debates about Geno's chances when this officially gets announced will be fun, I'm sure

Yeah Geno may have been a diehard fan request for almost twenty years and had a recent remaster that sold well BUT Akira Toriyama is peak and ummm uhhh yeah, Crono is finally coming home! :jojo:

I don't think Geno, 3rd party Mario character and longtime request and Chrono, protagonist of one of the more beloved RPGs are similar enough to be considered alongside each other. Like, it's not gonna be "should we add Chrono or Geno?", it's "should we add Geno?" and in a different convo "should we add Chrono?".

What do you guys think? I know I’m biased because Magus is one of my favorites, but I genuinely think he’s a better choice for Smash than Crono. Crono shares a lot of visual overlap with Hero, while Magus really stands out—he’s got a unique look, a scythe, and some awesome dark magic.

Crono may be the main protagonist of the first game, but I honestly think Magus is the thread that ties the whole Chrono series together narratively. Am I just letting my bias talk, or does Magus have a legit argument for being chosen? I think I’d even be more excited to see him in Smash than I was for Sephiroth.

True although it’s more of a company then a similarity thing.

Yeah. Mario's got a newcomer in every game except Brawl, and there's never been just one.

Smash 64: Mario and Luigi
Melee: Peach, Bowser, and Dr. Mario
Smash 4: Rosalina and Bowser Jr.
Ultimate: Daisy and Piranha Plant

This might be the first Smash game that only adds a single new Mario rep, but I don't know.

You know I'm also very clearly biased towards face characters for picks, but given a large RPG party, I don't think I'd ever pick the late game optional party member over anyone else as the sole Chrono Trigger rep.

If not Chrono, I'd probably pick Lucca or Frog.

Fair enough. There aren’t really any bad options, Magus is just my favorite. Plus, I feel like Smash could use more darker themed characters. He may have been an optional party member but he was still a huge part of the narrative even if you never actually recruited him. I’d say that counts for something. He’s not quite in the same category as Vincent Valentine or Yuffie Kisaragi where their impact on the story is minimal if never recruited (and honestly, even if they are).

Respectfully :iwatadirect:

Compared to the competition, Paper Mario is like an underdog.
Yeah, kind of figured lol. No offense taken. Still, I do think there’s at least a decent argument to be made even if they end up going with Crono in the end. Smash is filled with heroic sword wielding protagonists. A second silent protagonist with a similar visual design as Hero would feel a bit redundant to me personally. You could always give Crono a dual tech based moveset but I feel like that might be forcing a gimmick on him just to make him stand out where Magus already does that on his own.

Paper Mario is a weird case for me in the sense that my enthusiasm for his inclusion depends entirely on what games he's based on
I would hope it'd be TTYD because of the remake making it prominent again, maybe with like 1000-Fold Arms from Origami King as a Final Smash deal if they don't go for something like Showstopper or something, but I'm also hoping the current stage is eliminated from existence and we get an ACTUAL Paper Mario stage instead of whatever that disgusting stage we've been dealing with so far is. Love the SS Flavio part though, just wish it wasn't literally just Pirate Ship but again

I love when my Paper Mario Medley in Smash randomly interrupts itself and starts playing the Airship theme instead of another original Paper Mario track, very inspired, definitely doesn't make me viscerally angry.

A lot of people (myself included) would say we shouldn't have three Links tho
Understood. Still, two of those Links are basically kids with different appearance styles. At least we have Dr. Mario, who is kinda different enough from Mario, and Paper Mario would, based on what I have read in the past, probably be different from Mario, and not just in appearance.

If we can have three different Links, we can have three different Marios.
I mean I feel like we shouldn't have three Links (not crazy on Doc coming back either, but he could potentially worm his way in like in Smash 4), but that's because they all have a very similar moveset.

I'm fine with Paper Mario because A) I have an intense personal bias (TTYD is my favorite game of all time), and B) He'd be like guaranteed to be VASTLY different from regular Mario I'm pretty sure.

Fine. And Echo would also be okay.

I hope it looks like Dragon Ball FighterZ and not just HD-2D.

My personal bias is for Frog. But I don't think he, or Magus, is getting in before Crono.

Do we not count Paper Mario as a Mario character or what?
Paper Mario is still Mario. And I don't need a 3rd Mario in Smash.

Well, you are right on the playing similar part. I was just using three Links as an example above. Still, it seems BotW Link plays differently, well, not a whole lot differently, but you know what mean, even if it is by a small amount. He doesn't even have the Hookshot, does he not?

I fully support Paper Mario in Smash, I just feel like there’s a few other characters they’d want to get to first.

I could be wrong though, who knows :drshrug:
Yeah, I mostly just want actual good Paper Mario content instead of 95% content from the two games in the series that are terrible and a portion of a stage I dislike that actually represents some modicum of joy I have related to this series.

Like music is fine but I think it should have more, a new stage that's not dog ****, that kind of thing.

He definitely plays differently with his lack of a Hookshot and remote-detonated bombs. That's why I have a beef with the mindset that we must ONLY have one Link, it's ignorant of the fact that not everyone is gonna like moveset changes like that.

Before SSBU, I couldn't care less. But now we have a very good reason for multiple Links.

Yeah, I do think Crono is the most likely but I don’t think it’s completely impossible to get someone else, especially if we keep Hero around. Crono and Hero feel a bit redundant together for me personally when we could get another character that stands out more like Magus or Frog. Not that I wouldn’t be hyped to see anyone from the series.

Yeah, I know. In fact, I believe I was talking about what you said after seeing your previous post about BotW Link above.
