In this hypothetical, technically all their assets would be on the cart, just not the code that unlocks them.
Physical Switch 2 Editions actually have the Switch 1 version with the Upgrade Pack included as a separate thing (likely a code) so no, it would not.

I can see Funky playing about as differently from DK as Wii U Bowser does from Brawl Bowser.

I guess that would be enough of a difference to where he can’t be an echo fighter.
Depends on how we define "gameplay" differences. Dark Samus shows us Echoes can have noticably different animations while retaining similar hitboxes, but aside from Ken (Who Sakurai admitted was only an Echo because of his iconic shotoclone status), Echoes don't seem to have any noticably altered normals

Now that I think about it...Donkey Kong has gotten a redesign that changes his proportions, and they're pushing it really hard, so I doubt we'll keep his current design. However, none of the other Kongs so far have gotten the same treatment.

If that is the case for Funky Kong, I think that means the argument for him to be an Echo Fighter is getting put out to pasture since he just straight up doesn't have the same body type anymore.

If there's any character that would be a perfect sense Echo Fighter and where the status would be beneficial to getting them in, it'd be Paula from Earthbound/Mother 2. Make her an Echo of Lucas, but she uses Ness' throws and PK-Fire and Magnet. Think about it, all of Ness' and Lucas' Special moves, aside from Flash, can be used by her, she can use a Frying Pan for her Forward Smash and while she can use a Yoyo, it'd make alot of sense for her to use Lucas' Up-Smash and Down-Smash as she is the main "Black Mage" of her game.
And she has a full model in Smash Ultimate, helping with PK Starstorm alongside Poo for Ness' Final Smash, just like Chrom with Robin's Final Smash. She'd also be on the much more unlikelier side of characters that could become playable for Smash.

Besides changing her throw to be like Ness', as she doesn't have a rope snake compared to Lucas, her Up-Smash and Down-Smash' special effects can be changed to a PK-Freeze/Fire effect and you could have her Up-Smash be alot more faster, but weaker in power compared to Lucas. Heck, by making the PK effect a PK-Freeze effect, you could potentially have her Up-Smash freeze foes. And for her specials, she can have PK Fire and PSI Magnet from Ness, while she gets PK Freeze and Thunder from Lucas. Making her a middle ground between Ness and Lucas.

Her Final Smash could've been her Pray command from Earthbound, but unfortunately the topic of Prayer has started becoming a controversial topic, especially in Europe, so most likely, she'll keep PK Starstorm as a Final Smash and have Ness and Poo help her.
Yeah i speculate on paula decently often shes like the best earthbound echo idea!
(Other than a mewtwo giyig echo) as ninten is literally just ness with diffrent white mage moves so theres no reason to add him (other then a costume), claus is already a costume, porky needs his own moveset!
And interesting point there isnt a single non avatar kid girl character in smash! Only Teens/adults

Not going through this **** again.
Then you don't get him at all.

Seriously, not every character that is unlikelier to get in Needs to be an Echo Fighter to get in.
Not every character. But definitely Funky.

There is a 0% chance of Funky getting in as a unique Fighter.

Especially when thinking about how some would be all too quick to make Luigi one if for some reason he wasn't already in the game...
I mean, yeah. Sakurai literally calls Luigi "the original Echo Fighter" in the Ken Direct.

If Echoes had existed back in Smash 64, Luigi would have 100% been an Echo.

I hope Funky gets to keep his classic look, so a part of Rare’s DK design can live on through him.

Nana (age unconfirmed, but super child coded).
Hate to be that guy but I would say "super" is probably a bit hyperbolic. What kind of child climbs a monster-infested mountain unsupervised?

But on a more serious note, the Ice Climbers are really weird because for all intents and purposes, Sakurai just saw the in-game sprites and made them look Kirby-series adjacent in artstyle.
But I honestly think things would be a much different story if the characters were approached with the "Pit in Brawl" mentality instead, though with designs that'd be more Mario-esque compared to Pit being given a modern Link-esque look. I could see an alternate outcome where Popo and Nana are closer to Mario and Luigi in terms of design than the Kirby-like designs we have now.

Bowser from Melee/Brawl to Smash 4 onwards is probably one of the most changed characters outside of Smash 64 characters. His specials are the exception but they got better.

It probably means that it’s not impossible for Ganondorf to be revamped.

Teens are kids tho.

Also we have Pokémon Trainer (10), and Nana (age unconfirmed, but super child coded).
A bit nitpicky, but PT's actually a bit older as Red/Leaf are 11.

I'm pretty sure BotW Link and LttP Zelda are both late teen/young adult.
Yeah, BotW Link is about 17 based on some details we get. A bit of a fun fact with that is that it means TotK Link is probably the oldest Link we've been able to play as since at least a few years have passed considering Riju and Tulin are notably older.

A bit of a different topic but I wanted to ask; do you guys think that the trophies will be back eventually or do you think the Spirits are their permanent replacement instead of a result of time constraints?

That depends on if the developers want to import thousands of models from hundreds of games and also add flavor text to it. :bowsette:

Yeah people usually assume Pokemon characters are Ten by default because that's how old Ash is supposed to be but in the games the ages of the characters from game to game usually change.

Like the ones from Gen 5 and Legends are teenagers and the ones from XY are implied to be young adults.

I don't think Spirits are coming back since they don't really make sense without WoL to give context. But I also feel trophies are finished too; Sakurai also partially cut them because he felt the resources would be much better spent on other things, and I doubt that has changed. I'm guessing he'll come up with something new to fully fill the void; some relativley low effort **** that also includes descriptions. Like IDK, trading cards or sum.

...Personally my compromise would be to only make trophies for playable characters and bosses, but do something simpler for other characters. Just not sure if Sakurai would do it.

They could do trading cards instead, as a middle ground between Trophies and Spirits.
