Yeah so before we keep on animating I'm working on the pixel issue first.

First of all, check out the difference. (attached) Less blurry? :D
It is less blurry, but it also seems like the character is a lot smaller than what I thought before. Do you have this character available in a small form, where 1 pixel is 1 pixel, like the small sprites I was posting before?

Oh and for comparison of pixel sizes. Is this good?
It's close, but not quite. Here's just a little something showing the red character's pixels are bigger than the blue character's pixels.


Judging by that I think it's safe to assume these characters are probably actually about the same height.

I went ahead and redrew that example sprite you gave me entirely in paint, and here's an actual real representation of the pixel ratio to these other characters. This means that your character that is stretched is a much lower resolution than these characters, I'd say this is a very big immediate issue in the graphics department.

Either that character will need to be revamped to a larger size or all newer characters should be smaller with less resolution to them to match it. That's up to you, the smaller ones will be easier to pump out and get more done quicker whereas the higher resolution sprites are more visually appealing but naturally will take a lot longer.

Maybe I should fix my character. Maybe keep him around the same height but make him a bit slimmer since I see him as a tall and lanky fighter. Also thought up a name for him. I'd either go for "Wisper" as suggested by another user or go for "Dioxis/Dioxide/Dioxion" (either of the three) to reference the compound gas Carbon Dioxide.

Dioixis sounds to much like Deoxys but Dioxion is sexy!

I set up the pixels to be one half of the others so it would fit.

We will resprite Flare and the penguin. What are the dimensions I can give Antonio (he sprited both of them)?

Also, we are going to need to come up with a color scheme for all the characters for consistency. I'm sure @ InnerMobius InnerMobius knows what I'm talking about (tell me if I'm wrong).

Sorry about all these complications with graphics. There is literally no artist in me. I just program. So all this stuff is new to me haha

well, I'm thinking about it, is it really the end of the world if we just leave the two characters at their current resolutions? It would be a lot of work I imagine to redo them

You know, I'm okay with resizing/repsriting my Character to match the other 2 characters' sizes or maybe I can just move on to a new character for a fresh start (then go back to Dioxin). I'll probably sketch out some character concepts later for you guys to evaluate.

They should be consistent with all of the other characters, absolutely. If that means you'd prefer to keep the smaller flare sprite, Karakato and I are down with that idea.



About the pixel size between the two current characters, it isn't hard to match them up if you have the source sprites where 1 pixel is literally 1 pixel instead of stretched. Do you still have the original unstretched Flare sheet? If not he'll need respriting anyways, but as I showed above I'm able to recreate it (with the less blurry example of course) and even update it(If your other artist didn't mind).

The question us pixel artists should have for you is how does your code allow for sprites and bigger sizes? Is each sprite in an animation a different size? (That would be the case if the there's a max size for the sprite to be showing up in a 'box')?

I'm on my phone right now so I can't type much. I have flares original sprite sheet. I haven't changed the size. I was changing the size programmatically in my code. I can also change their "box" size and there really is no limit to character size (well there is a practical limit haha) hopefully that helped

Sure, if each character's box doesn't stretch when the animations are done that sounds perfect :)
(EDIT: To clarify, I meant the hitbox moves to the size of the sprite but doesn't warp the sprites)

Sorry, forgot about this question but just re-read it. If you want to you can use a set 16-bit palette, they have the GBA/SNES/Genesis palettes available online. If you wanted to stick with one of them I'm pretty sure there's nothing against that.

Ok so we are going to downsize everything to Flares size.

I really like the jump mad guy @ Karakato Dzo Karakato Dzo please let's make him first!

@ InnerMobius InnerMobius haha that would be really funny. What kind of attack would she have?
Also the hit boxes won't change so dont worry there

This game is going to kill. Anyways I don't know much about color palettes. I just had two people tell me to make one universal for the game. Know much about this anyone?

All of these character designs are frickin' neat. I can just imagine all these fighters scrapping it out Smash Bros style!

Also, will the Queen keep her idle pose where she flashes her buck teeth for a second or two?

On an unrelated note, it's coming time we get good sound effects in this game...more specifically voice actors/actresses. This throwing this out there but does anyone have a good voice an is interested?

@ jdawg99 jdawg99 Yep he can indeed work like Wario. Originally he was supposed to be inspired from Giovanni and M.Bison (Vega if you're in JP) but I thought a Wario proportioned Bison would be a better mix. As for his attacks, I think one of them should be a harmless Taunt just for laughs. most fighting games have their joke characters anyway.

Well I know a majority of you people talking right now are all about graphics, but I have something unrelated to talk about....online gameplay.

I've been working my butt off the past week to figure this stuff out (probably the hardest programming endeavor I've ever taken on). If you've tested the last version's online version...don't..it stinks. I'm learning ways to improve the game's online mode and I'm hoping in the next release it will be somewhat playable. At this rate though, just know you guys can expect a solid online game.

Sorry I took a long time to make this, got an animation project and a few speeches keeping me busy. Anyway, Here is LJM's Iddle animation (or taunt if you wish) What do you guys think so far?

Noryuken't It's like Shoryuken, but it sounds like "No you can't"
but I jump up with springs in my boots.
Mad Tantrum My face gets red, and a flail around like a mad little child because I'm not winning >:[
Sore Loser Attack I pull out my... Mad Fork, and aim for the eyes, or at less the butt.
Psycho Farter It's like psycho booster, but I'm farting left and right

I could try to give somebody a voice, depends what's available, but i'll give it my best shot either way :D

Here's some concept for a possible moveset for Mr. Randoms. These are some special moves that would make sense for a random stick figure with a huge buck-tooth. If there's any questions or changes or anything, then just ask.


Also, here's a possible standing still stance. I could animate (with flipnote studio) his walking and other stuff like that, if that's alright?
