A release window is still better than nothing, and unless the rest of the Direct is somehow disappointing, people will still be going out of their minds more than complaining afterwards.

Oh gawd, stop trying to derail the Hype Train, it hurts my soul

I wonder what would happen if we did get quite a bit of new info included a newcommer or two, but Ridley was shown to be a hazard on Pyrosphere. Would people even remember that we got good news? Or since die hards seem to think that regardless of his hazard status he is in, would the Ridley possible deconfirmation not even matter? Would the good and bad news cancel each other out?

I'm just wondering how they're going to open the show. Will Iwata or Sakurai start talking right out the gate, or will they just show us a newcomer?

Hmm release window, well better than not getting any details at all about it. I am hoping it is a specific month though rather than season, but we'll see.

Let's try to kill our hype down, so it'll be less likely the Direct will disappoint us. I'll go first.
  • Online mode won't be shown
  • Adventure Mode won't be shown
  • No new stages will be shown
  • Character Select Screen won't be shown
  • Game menu won't be shown
  • No changes/improvements made to the veterans since last footage
  • Their voice clips are still the same (Mario still has his horrible Brawl voice)
  • Most of the Direct will be spent on showing new items
  • No new gameplay mechanics will be shown
  • No release date will be revealed (Already confirmed T_T)
  • No veteran will be revealed
u forgot

  • No Smash will be shown

Aren't you very optimistic?
Anyway I don't believe in a Summer Release now for the very reason that we don't get the release but a 'window'.
There is no point in getting a window when we know the game is coming out soon (if there was Summer Release).
Since it is a window I think we will be getting the game at around October-December.
The worst case scenario is that the game gets delayed to 2015...
I can imagine Iwata uttering the words...
We had a Spring 2014 release date for Mario Kart up until the middle of February. It wouldn't be odd to get summer 2014, and then at e3 get an exact date.

Possibly kick off with a new gameplay video featuring a new veteran and end on a Newcomer introduction perhaps?

The release window they speak of could still be closer rather than farther. For Mario Kart 8, a concrete release date wasn't stated until February, which is only 3 months in advance. Prior to that, it was labeled only as Spring 2014. We could easily get a release window for something like Summer or Fall 2014, and then at E3 they could cement a definite date for as early as August or September maybe...just as long as they have a time period in between to give us an exact day.

Basically, just saying that only getting a release window may simply mean that it's >3 months away...but it could still be close!

I highly doubt many older veterans or newcomers will be introduced today (maybe 1). They're already at 24 characters, which seems like a solid number to be at before unlockables. Brawl started at 21 and introduced 15 unlockables. We may get one or two more before unlockables, because we know Sakurai puts stock in not revealing unlockables before the game's release (with the exception of the 3rd parties).

I would suspected there would be a bit of a dialogue before any trailer was ran but it's hard to say.

I'm just excited to see new gameplay footage/trailer. Those pre-rendered trailers are always fun. Hopefully we'll see some of the other veterans in action like Peach, Zelda, and Diddy. Though I didn't play him much in any game, I really want to see Yoshi. I think Mario Kart will get us through summer and Smash as a fall release taking us through the holidays. I probably wont touch Mario Kart 8 for a while once Smash comes out TBH. More time means more polish, right?

I wonder Marth being revealed beforehand means anything for Fire Emblem.

Oh yes, Zelda. I forgot about the whole Phantom thing for a second there. Hope we get information on that.

I'm with you, I think the Wii U version will arrive between July and September. There is too much evidence to suggest it is coming sooner rather than later. The reservation cards, Sakurai's tweet saying it is coming along fast, the direct itself coming up, Nintendo shutting down Nintendo WFC for Wii and DS in preperation for "Games such as Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros" and with games such as X and Bayonetta coming out later, they'll still have holiday titles.

Mario Kart 8's window was announced in E3 and the window being announced and the release were like 9 months apart. It would be weird for us to have a window announced if possibly the game is going to be released in the summer. But we will probably get the release date at E3.

Yeah, X and Bayonetta seem more like their holiday planned releases. Smash is always released pretty early within a systems life time. I can't imagine it being later.

Why do I have a horrible feeling that Sm4sh's character roster won't be even slightly bigger than Brawl's?

I think I might have heard that somewhere. I hope I'm wrong...

My final predictions:

2 newcomers
3-5 vets (hopefully includes Snake)
new gameplay stuff
release date

Didn't know it was 30 minutes long. That's a solid Direct right there.

Today is finally the day we get a release window which means it won't be as far as we think which is cool I hope he focus on gameplay and what is different i'm not getting that fresh or new feeling from smash 4 yet besides visuals.

My final predictions.

At least one newcomer, 2 if we're lucky.
Several veterans.
Gameplay showcase. Perhaps they'll talk about some new mechanics?
Some new assist trophies.
The release window, of course.
Maybe a glance at Adventure Mode.
And last but not least, Sakurai will troll us somehow.

Either way I hope the Snake situation is sorted out today, because god I'm feeling bad for his fans as I'm pretty sure he's an obvious cut and I'd love to be wrong for their sakes.

We'll probably see things like the menus and other things that were never shown on the PotD. And explain some gameplay mechanics with extra detail.

And character reveals. Plenty, plenty of reveals :seuss:

I think this is THE opportunity to reveal him.

It just makes too much sense. He wouldn't have to be introduced by Iwata, but Sakurai instead. He doesn't have to be related to a MGS game, because he's already been in Smash...it just makes sooo much sense.

I hope the'll show us the Opening Intro in this. And since it seems all characters does have High Quality models now, it's very possible they will be used for a gorgeous intro. :)

That isn't odd at all. Nintendo announced Super Mario 3D World at E3 and then released it a few months later. It would not be odd at all for a game that's been in development for 2 years to have a release window of summer 2014 announced. That's actually quite normal.

2 newcomers - One newcomer may take about 4 minutes (2 minutes for trailer, 2 minutes for explaining mechanics) so 8 minutes.
3-5 vets - Could be part of the first trailer - 2 minutes.
Opitions & New mechanics - around 5 minutes.
Full Match - 5-7 minutes
Online Features: 3-5 minutes
Connectivity Gimmick - 5 minutes

Around 30 minutes. Mixed with what I predict too. I really hope this is the case.

Not to mention today's POTD was three boxes. Obviously it symbolizes the 3 clones of big boss. :troll:
(To tell the truth i've got my stomach in a knot, i'm so worried about seeing him today, i feel sick.)

edit: Well this helps.
