Also, yes, I loved that moment. Directs are Always fun and silly, I like that. I hope there's something like that in tomorrow's Direct. I wanna see Sakurai, Iwata, Reggie and Miyamoto get sucked into the game and battle it out as Miis.

Anyway, I found this little trivia I found on one of the wiki pages about quite interesting:
"When Nintendo surveyed fans to see what new characters they hoped were in Brawl, Krystal was the top female character most hoped for. In spite of this, she didn't make a playable appearance."
Was this hate for her around back then or did it become a thing later on?

It was around it just wasn't as excessive. It probably plays on the further decline of the Star Fox series in general and the fact that there were three characters previously which kind of had mixed reactions in general. I also think it may also play into the number of other females character have gotten more attention this time around.

I've never been much of a Krystal fan, but I do recall an expectation that didn't happen during Brawl and how little I've seen her mention speaks to much of my theory on the matter.

To the premium members, if the Newcomer is who you hope it is, would you change your Smash 4 main background? I'm torn as Little Mac was at the top of my list before.

Correction, she was designed by Rare. Although she was conservatively dressed while the game was still Dinosaur planet. There's other females in the Star fox series but Krystal was the first and I still think only, to be playable outside the cockpit.

Yeah, there's no need for a fourth Starfox character so that's the best reason I heard for not wanting her, though that doesn't explain why people just straight up hate on her.

It could be because of all the Star Fox reps.
She's the one that's been the most requested. Really requested.
And knowing how many think of Star Fox reps, it could come off as annoying.

Her "reputation" though is not really caused by the character itself, but more by the weird community that likes furries, which I find a shame because the characters or games themselves don't go for this at all so it's a shame she gets hated on just because some people are weird. Well, it's not like we can't.
Heck, as a character, I don't mind her.
But it's like a rip on an otherwise well-made shirt.
Sure, it's still wearable. But you can't ignore that rip.

I didn't follow the Smash community during the Brawl days (heck, this is the first game that I've truly followed).

For some reason, I didn't realise her design was supposed to be sexy, I feel so oblivious now.

But yeah, that reason makes much more sense for hating her, I guess the hate isn't that weird then.

It's not necessarily caused by the character, but it is present on official artwork such as this:

The thing is, the character is designed and marketed with sex appeal, so she is made to appeal to that aspect.

Because Wolf is the newer character. Gouken is more Unique than Akuma (Gouki) but more people would miss Akuma than his brother.

Sorry for taking this off topic again, but can someone explain me all this Krystal hate again? I always felt like this hate on Krystal was just a very hip thing to do on these forums and isn't actually based on anything. The way I look at it she just looks like a cool fox chick that can use telepathy and a spear, which seems like quite a unique addition to the smash cast and at least a lot more interesting than some generic Mii's. I don't really know enough about Krystal though so if anyone can enlighten me why I should hate her (other than smash not needing another Starfox character) please tell me.

Krystal was a character that was originally supposed to star in a game called Dinosaur Planet for Gamecube. The game was later changed to be a Zelda style Star Fox game w/ Fox as the main protagonist and Krystal as damsel in distress. I guess it was because they thought it would be more marketable that way. Star Fox Adventures was my first Gamecube game. I thought it was pretty cool. From what I read on forums people seem to associate their disdain w/ Star Fox Assault w/ Krystal. And the fact that she's an anthro which I don't fully understand cause Fox and Falco are anthros. She's not even the most annoying character. That's Slippy,

I think the character would be a cool addition to Smash Bros. She could easily take moveset inspiration from Star Fox Adventures which involved a staff w/ elemental properties and would set her apart from not only Fox and Falco, but other weapon wielding characters.

This is the part I don't understand... Okay she has sex appeal, cool stuff. So do the majority of other popular female characters in video game culture. Nobody has a problem with human females being overly sexy but as soon as you throw some fur, a tail, and blue skin on them everyone wants to cry fowl all of the sudden.

I mean seriously do these characters even look like actual animals or aliens?

Pretty much in agreement there. I'm not really into anthro myself, but whatever floats someone's boat is fine by me. Like with all fantasies, you just need to make sure you can distinguish fantasy from reality.

Krystal's hate could partly be because of the character's portrayal to some, though, that is itself somewhat built around her sex appeal (at least in Assault).

Rouge, for example, may dress like a hooker to some, but she's an extremely dignified character, and is well received as a result, and they've never really done much in the way of making her character center around her body.

What if that's her final smash?

Rosalina's Final Smash will be "Big Bang".

No, I love Soul Calibur. It and Tekken are the best 3D fighting series of all-time IMO, and I'm glad the minds behind both franchises are working on Smash.

How some of you were able to stay perpetually hyped through the whole weekend is beyond me. Did some of you even sleep this weekend? Good lord... on the topic of the Direct, we should get an confirmation of the length of the Direct sometime tonight if it's anything like past Directs.

i personally love all the suggestions for newcomers and veterans. but the one thing people seem to be missing is that we know next to nothing about online gameplay. but one thing i really hope they announce is smash bros tv, i imagine it as some sort of spectator thing that could be integrated into mii verse and the game. you could watch matches. exchange stages if there is a stage builder and maybe assist trophies to collect them. i also see a lot of assist trophies in this game.
