There aren't enough poopers at this party, so allow me to play the role. I'm not entirely sure why (maybe it's the odd timing with it being so far from when we thought it would release and so close to E3) but I get a distinct, "We need to talk" vibe from this direct announcement.

I've seen some people suggesting that it might be to announce that it is delayed, and while I agree with there notion of a spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down, I doubt that this game is getting delayed. The WiiU needs compelling reasons to buy it, and what else is going to get people pumped for a WiiU this holiday season (since Mario Kart will have been out for a while by then)?

I'm almost inclined to think that they'll announce that in order to get this game out in a timely fashion a number of veterans had to be cut, but please understand they will be released as DLC later. I doubt it'll be exactly that, but something of that nature, and I can't think of a better example.

Regardless I'm sure they're will be plenty of good news to accompany it. Yet I can't shake this feeling that they're throwing us a bone so we can swallow some bad news that they don't want to hold onto for to long for fear of creating even more disappointment.

So will this Direct be "Smash only" or just "Smash centred?" I.E will we only get Smash stuff, or is there a possibility of other games appearing as well?

The W101 and X/Y Directs were about 20 mins iirc... so yeah they're shorter, but for one game still pretty sizable.

Also keep in mind that those were done only a few days before the launch of their respective games. We know a lot less about Smash now than we did about X/Y or W101 when their Directs happened.

Also, I wonder if the Smash direct will be routinely interrupted by Sakurai saying "Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS will launch on...." like the W101 direct was.

I doubt they would choose to divulge a Direct's worth of info to help accompany news of a delay when they could just throw us a highly hype-worthy character a la Sonic in Brawl to pacify us.

This would almost seem counterproductive if they wanted to announce a delay. Plus I'd suspect Nintendo is doing their utmost behind the scenes to get this game out as soon as possible (while still being up to their standards) what with the situation the Wii U finds itself in.

Consider putting all that under a collapse/spoiler tag. It's a pretty damn big post, and considering a number of people have expressed irritation at all the hashtagging, I think it would be a good show of courtesy to hide it so that not everyone has to scroll past it.

In terms of Direct content, I'm hoping for at least one newcomer, either Palutena or Takamaru, followed by two or three veterans, Meta Knight, Yoshi, and Wario would be choice. That might be a little much though considering they need to save some of the cast for E3. At the least I'm expecting 1 newcomer, 1 veteran (Snake would be Direct worthy).

Than a whole lotta gameplay including stages we have yet to see in motion, assist trophies, some Final Smashes, and explanations on certain characters such as Rosaluma and Little Mac. Some new stages would be nice, too.

Maybe some bad news such as @ Mr. Mumbles mentioned before such as cut characters, removal of various modes, or different release dates for the two versions. I also expect Sakurai to be featured.

Finally, the release date for both versions.

I hope no one suggested here gets in, honestly. A lot of them seem boring. I would rather have Sakurai take creative control with the characters while having just a couple of highly demanded ones. I don't really have character demands because I just learn to like everyone , and smash already has almost everyone one of my favorite characters (some of which I didn't even care for at first) so anything else is a bonus.

Sure, there are characters I would love to see, but I've learned to live with the fact that I can't always get what I want.

I'm predicting 1-2 newcomers, 2-5 veterans (who will just appear in footage like the others did at E3) and 2+ stages + release date. Maybe a wireless multiplayer/single player demo with 6-8 characters, 2-4 stages and stuck at 2 min matches.
