Song: Garden of Hope
Source: Pikmin 3 (Wii U, 2013)
Reason: Besides being the theme of the setting of the stage, it's a pretty good "basic" Pikmin track, containing elements of most of the series' music, including ambient environmental sounds, harps, resonating string sounds, and a sort of rustic feel. It captures the romanticism of the series quite definitively.
Song: Stage Clear / Title (Pikmin)
Source: Pikmin (GameCube, 2001)
Reason: I liked this arrangement in Brawl. It contains two memorable pieces from the original game. And coupled with Garden of Hope, it provides ample coverage of the main theme of the series without having to include the original track on its own. Why
not bring it back?
Song: World Map (Pikmin 2)
Source: Pikmin 2 (GameCube, 2004)
Reason: Okay, a little bit more of the main theme. But not much. This was another fantastic arrangement of a notable track that Brawl gave us. It was shown on the Dojo following Olimar's reveal, so for me at least, it's pretty memorable. I'd love to see it return. The flute still blows me away.
Song: Plasm Wraith
Source: Pikmin 3 (Wii U, 2013)
Reason: Another fan favorite track, this one has a great build-up, going from typical ambient Pikmin fair to intense boss battle frenzy. It's the most foreboding track on the list, complimenting the Stage Clear/Title track quite nicely for some more "intense" music.
Song: Forest of Hope
Source: Pikmin (GameCube, 2001)
Reason: I decided to play it safe with another track (this time, not an arrangement) included in Brawl. It's not the most popular Pikmin track, but I'm sure it has its fans, and I wanted something truly peaceful-sounding yet somewhat melancholy. It was between Wistful Wild and this, and I think this fits the stage better while bringing more musical variety. Plus,
Forest of Hope's music on the
Garden of Hope is probably something that's destined to happen.
Song: Awakening Wood
Source: Pikmin 2 (GameCube, 2004)
Reason: It's a fan favorite track many wished were in Brawl, and it manages to be whimsical, yet adventurous and triumphant. The perfect theme for an uncharted fantasy planet. As a bonus, it'd be easy to loop.
Song: Ai no Uta
Source: Pikmin (GameCube, 2001)
Reason: I'll admit I have a soft spot for this song, and it's pretty memorable, even if moreso to Brawl players than Pikmin fans. I think it'd fit better on this new stage than on Brawl's Distant Planet. This time, though, we only need one promotional theme. No "Tana no Uta" or unnecessary French version on this list, and I'm not just saying that because I don't want them hogging up my limited 8 track choices.
Song: Yellow Giant
Source: Doshin the Giant (Nintendo 64DD, 1999)
Reason: By now you've probably noticed that I like to include a song or two from smaller, C- and D-list series on stages such as these. This track is from
Doshin the Giant, which is set in a lush, tropical, fantasy environment located in a remote, undetected area. Remind you of anything? Exactly. Anyway, this track is Doshin's theme from the game, and I think it fits really well here. It has the same use of "whistly" sounds and reverb that Pikmin music is known to make use of, and has a very tropical feel to it, so overall, it feels right at home. It's a little more funky and melodic than the other tracks here, giving the stage some extra variety. This was actually the hardest choice on this list (most of it was rather easy). I wanted to include a track from this game, and honestly, I think any single track off of the official album would be amazing; trust me, I have this stuff on my Project M SD card and it sounds great in-game.
This was my runner-up choice, but I decided to pick something found in the actual game as well as on the soundtrack. I'm a huge fan of the soundtrack. Check it out if you haven't, seriously, especially if you like Pikmin music/more ambient music. It's
highly underrated, even for a game soundtrack.[/collapse]
