I might be a failure again, but at least I'm back in Swamp's good graces! Congrats for your high score, TaichiYaegashi. I think 150 is a new record! (Correct me if I'm wrong.)
Oh, and congrats to Hades, I guess. No offense, but I felt your tracklist was too... evil. Maybe it's just me.
I hope everything goes okay, TumblrFamous. Thanks for all you've done for the contest and for me.
So, you guys need another judge/alternate?
In seriousness, I'm ready to take the plunge into the next round! Let's go, Find Mii stage!
Best theme = Worst score.
Like I give a crap, I'll keep on making my lists the way I've been doing them. Good competition is doing things the way you want until whoever's judging accepts that it's the correct way. I can't wait for the next stage so generic lists can get the most points.
But, I'll say it, making my list was tons of fun until everyone started ********. And oh please let the next stage be Nintendogs so that we can choose from the great array of fighting songs the saga has >:I
Seriously...just look at that stage...but I won't talk too much about it since people on this thread are againist negotiations for the sake of awesome.

Either between this or the regular courtroom is enough for a Phoenix Wright stage for me. Phoenix Wright at least has more of a presence nowadays as a Nintendo franchise, with a strong fanbase.
I'd be more butthurt over Phoenix Wright not getting any representation than DuckTales. (I'm not taking a stab at you, D-idara. I've just never played DuckTales to care enough about it.)

I think the regular courtroom's not as iconic...and this stage could have crumbled sides to make holes, that would keep competitive players happy too...and although I still think that you're not really considering how important Ducktales was to the NES, it's true that Phoenix Wright's a much more popular and Nintendo-esque franchise...and with Capcom being the owner of the franchise, without any other company owning it, this could actually happen...I mean, this stage could happen with something like, a single signature on a piece of paper and two days of extra development, I wouldn't even be mad if they ported the courtroom's 3D model from AA to speed up the process, the models on AA:DD were beautiful.
And when I used The Moon, it wasn't really to represent 'Ducktales'...the song has made itself an identity.
Besides contract negotiations, Capcom could benefit from pushing Phoenix Wright into the spotlight more with a stage. I think giving obscure games/franchises a stage or song representation is enough to market them in a game like SSB4. For people who weren't aware they existed before but would want to try them, possibly loving them once they get their hands on a fresh IP.
Great for increasing popularity and awareness.
This was the case with me and Pikmin, in any case. I don't know if this kind of thing happened for many with Brawl.

Congratulations TaichiYaegachi! My list is still a winner in my book, but tying for 6th isn't terrible. Could've been better, but not terrible. Could've been higher if Swamp didn't dock points for a handheld piece on a Wii U stage. I won't make that mistake again. Looks like Dire Dire Docks cost me points with Starphoenix...
I noticed that my highest marks were in variety, which is good because it shows that I at least accomplished what I set out to do. Yes, I tried picking popular tracks that fit, but those were an afterthought compared to variety. What exactly gauges importance? Would pieces like main themes fit that bill? I'm not completely sure.
Anyway, congrats to the winner, looking forward to round 11. If it's the 3DS Rainbow Road stage though, I'm sitting that round out.

Unfortunately, as afraid everyone but Toxicroaker is to admit it, we can't hide from the sad truth forever. It's been too long since we've had one of those stages almost nobody wants to do and one stage has been waiting for too long...watching...sizing up it's prey before the kill...
Beware my friends, Nintendogs is coming...

So if you start cheating, should I accept that as the "correct" way? No. What if you don't deserve the win, in my opinion. Should I just lie to myself and say that you win? That philosophy is terrible. I warned you this would happen. I tried to help man. Frost did too but you just wouldn't listen and got defensive.
Nintendogs has s bunch of songs fit for fighting actually. Besides using other Nintendo tracks is fine with most judges. Just not third party songs that aren't Sonic, Megaman or Metal Gear.

But to answer your question, importance is mainly how important the theme is to the game. So, main themes, important character themes, important boss themes and themes for big important events would qualify. Make sense?

Swampasaur pretty much explained the importance factor. Better than I would, actually.
Important songs often go hand-to-hand with popular songs, such as the Super Mario Bros. Ground Theme. Popular songs are, obviously, those songs well-known and well remembered by the players and the fanbases. I wouldn't call the Gerudo Valley song as important as the main Zelda theme, for example, but its popularity makes it more notable and a good option for lists.
Variety is about game origin and musical variety. Try to pick different sounding songs from a wide array of games. If you notice, I did penalize people for using too much Galaxy songs, although the scores remained sufficiently high due to choosing different sounding songs.
Fit is how the song fits the atmosphere of the stage and/or the gameplay of the game. Choosing calmer and slower paced songs should be done in moderation.
Regarding third party songs: only Metal Gear, Sonic and Mega Man songs are allowed, as they are the only three third party franchises to have been in Smash games. Even so, they are reserved to stages belonging to their respective franchises. This should be a no-brainer, considering this is Smash Bros. we're talking about.
My suggestions on how to make better lists:
- Try to include a main theme from a game of the franchise, especially from the game the stage is from. The main theme may often be an opening theme, a title screen theme or perhaps the first level's BGM, but not always.
- Try to include the song that originally played in that stage in the source game. Save a few exceptions, stages in Brawl had a song that originally played on the specific area the stage was based on. Examples include: Delfino Plaza on Delfino Plaza, Mario Circuit on Mario Circuit, Vs. Parasite Queen on Frigate Orpheon or Main Theme (Twilight Princess) on Bridge of Eldin.
- Recurring themes from throughout the series are good choices to represent a franchise as a whole.
- Try to avoid using different arrangements of the same song.
- Remember what Sakurai said about the My Music feature in Brawl. You can find this quote in the OP too.
Sakurai said:
The battle stages of Super Smash Bros. Brawl feature a diverse line-up of game worlds. For example, there are stages based on the Mario universe.
Basically, there is only one song that plays on each stage. But even among the myriad songs of the Mario universe, people probably have different favourites.
Plus, while there may be people who stepped into the Mario universe in the original Nintendo Entertainment System days, surely there are some who first experienced Mario on the Nintendo DS.
With that in mind, I think it’s a bit of a waste to limit that whole universe to just one song.

Wow, really...wow! I was searching dog-related Nintendo themes and there aren't that many...maybe include the main theme from SM3DW for the sake of irony? Would something like the Pokeathlon, Super Training or Contest themes from Pokemon be valid?
Oh, and going over your 'guidelines' and 'importance' thingies...I think I already have my oddball choice for Wily's Castle :3
Also, I must ask something, leaving The Moon fitting or not aside, was the inclusion of Dubstep Base Galaxy a good idea?

Considering Pokémon is a big franchise that will likely have multiple stages, I would save the Pokémon songs for stages of the franchise. Same for the other series.
Hey, I know it's not really important, but do you think there could be links to certain rounds to see tracklists and results for others besides the winners?
I said those three mainly because they're 'training' themes...but, I went and listened to the Nintendogs soundtrack, and...oh man! That "Walking The Dog" theme just hit me like a nostalgia bullet! I would really like the next stage to be either Nintendogs, Gerudo Valley or Rainbow Road...choosing music from Mario Kart's going to be even harder than picking out songs from Galaxy :s There's so many good ones.
And...the only similar genres I can think about are the Pokemon minigames and...tamagotchi? Hey, You Pikachu!?
Anyway those are the stages left to do: Wii U stages: Boxing ring stage
New Animal Crossing stage(s?)
Wily's Castle
Garden of Hope
Windy Hill Zone 3DS stages:
Gerudo Valley
Nintendogs stage Unknown stage[Image][Larger image]
Find Mii/StreetPass Quest
Animal Crossing: New Leaf stage
Rainbow Road
Stages in red mean that they won't be done unless information about their origin is revealed.
