They're all done.
This was the longest and largest round yet! And this just so happened to coincide with the holidays! I hope you understand why it took so long. We apologize. Except for Star. He was on time.
Another thing is that Tumblr will no longer be judging with us. He's currently dealing with some personal stuff so we let him go take care of it. Please send him your best regards!
So without further ado! I would like to close this round!

Notes: Starting off strong with Good Egg Galaxy! The song of the first real stage is a great piece. Iconic, popular and pretty powerful to boot. You then take the next step with Gusty Garden Galaxy. If you know Mario, this song is a must on this stage. An absolute must! Good things it's confirmed to be in too. Sky Station Galaxy is another great choice! Perfect song from SMG2 for pretty much the same reasons as mentioned above. Buoy Base Galaxy is one of the most popular tracks from the first Galaxy game. A fine choice! Puzzle Plank Galaxy is another great choice being one of the most popular tracks from SMG2. I mean listen to it! I WANNA DANCE! Purple Coins is a good choice too. The Mario Kart Wii version of Rainbow Road is a special version. Although we have that pesky rainbow road track that skewed our lists, this track still kinda fits on the galaxy stage. I think this is the most likely version of RR to appear here. If Mario Galaxy gets one. Bowser Battle is a good change of pace. I think it fits wonderfully! Overall, a great list. It's gonna be hard to beat.

Notes: Into the Galaxy is questionable... It's a good peice but... it just doesn't stand out. Especially compared to a bajillion of other Galaxy tracks. Good Egg Galaxy is an amazing choice as is Gusty Garden Galaxy. Bowser's Galaxy Reactor is a good choice too. It's epic sounding and is a more serious piece when compared to the other lighthearted tracks. Sky Station Galaxy is another great choice. Fleet Glide Galaxy is another questionable choice. Like Into the Galaxy, it's good, but underwhelming compared to some of the other possible choices. Hisstocrat Battle is a quirky choice. Seems to be a very popular track from 3D World, but at the same time I feel like it might have trouble fitting. Ah well. It works fine methinks. Didn't expect a track from Mario Sports Mix. Hmm.... Doesn't seem to be a real remix of anything. But definitely takes some inspiration from the Galaxy games. It definitely fits and it helps your variety.

Notes: Good Egg Galaxy and Gusty Garden Galaxy are both good choices to start off with. As is Buoy Base and Sky Station Galaxy. Battlerock Galaxy is a pretty popular track. It really has that amazing space adventure feel too. Final Bowser Battle is one I'm surprised wasn't on the first couple of lists. It's a great track. Popular, important, iconic. I personally feel that it will get in the game. Melty Monster Galaxy is another fan favorite from Galaxy 2. So good choice there. The Mario Kart 7 version of Rainbow Road was a great choice! Until the Rainbow Road stage was revealed. Don't worry though it won't affect your grade.

Notes: Theme of Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a good choice. It's pretty popular and kinda reminds me of Ballad of the Goddess in that the theme is remixed throughout the game, but the original theme itself is never played in the game. Still, a good choice! Starship Mario certainly is a melody.
All songs should have them. I think you mean MEDLEY. Which I won't count it as. Still, not a bad choice at all. It's just peppy enough that it can be used for a fight. Good Egg Galaxy is a great choice! Not sure what you mean by odd though. And Final Bowser Battle is NOT the most popular Galaxy theme. That will forever be Gusty Garden. It's in it's own level really, whether it deserves it or not. Still, Final Bowser Galaxy is certainly up there. It's a personal favorite of mine too. Good choice. I was wondering when we'd get Throwback Galaxy. It's a great choice! The Mario Party 9 Main Theme is one I did NOT see coming at all. It's a really catchy song! But I don't think it really fits on a Galaxy stage. Maybe a Mario Sport/Kart stage instead. In the Final is a good choice. Incredibly popular, especially back in the day and it kinda fits the stage as well. I just think it might work better on a handheld. Rainbow Road is a fine choice, err... was. The new Rainbow Road shakes things up for us. Still that won't affect your grading. You took some risks with this one. I appreciate you keeping things interesting. However, I feel that you missed out on some key tracks. Wow this is a long paragraph...

Notes: Purple Comet is certainly boopity a$$. It's a very popular track and pretty important to the game. Plays on a LOT of stages. Castle Theme is.... odd. It's a good track, but I feel it doesn't fit this stage very well. It sounds too dark and sinister. Great choice on another stage. Not so much here. 3D World Overworld is a great choice. Pretty upbeat and popular. It works well! Good Egg Galaxy, Throwback Galaxy and Rainbow Road (Wii) are great choices. As are Gusty Garden and Sky Station. Good list!

Notes: Purple Coins is a good way to start! Works perfectly if you ask me. Gusty Garden is practically required (now literally!
). BattleRock Galaxy and Melty Monster are good choices. Rainbow Cruise is a surprising choice for a past track, but I think it works pretty well. Good job! Dire Dire Docks seems... a tad too quiet, but I can see a remix fixing that. The Double Dash version of Rainbow Road is surprising as well, though it's a good piece. Although I must say the most popular version is the 64 version (although it's fit may not be the best here). Just a quick tip. Your Dream Adventure doesn't work for me. It's popular but... I feel that it should definitely stick to a handheld stage. Still good list!

Notes: I've talked about most of these already. The first four are great pics. Bowser's Lava Lair is interesting. Not my first pick here. To be honest, I think it would work better on a Bowser's Castle stage but you picked the best possible version of this theme. It has that adventurous and wondrous vibe that Galaxy music is know for. Not dark and sinister like the other versions of this theme. Nice choice. Rainbow Road Wii is my personal choice for this particular stage (at least it was) and I've explained why before. Now the Mario and Luigi tracks are where I feel there is a problem. These two just scream handheld to me. I feel they belong there. Still, the songs themselves are great picks!

Comet Observatory is kinda slow but popular and important enough that I think that'll slide. Besides, it's waltzy tempo can be used for fighting. Nice choice. I'm kinda surprised we aren't getting more of this. Stardust Road caught me by surprise. It's really purdy though. I do feel like I'm gonna have to draw the line here though. I think this is a tad too slow. The Galaxy 2 Final Battle theme is a great choice, as is Battlerock Galaxy. In the Final is a good choice, just for a handheld though. Still, good list!

Space Land came outta nowhere. It fits well and is a popular Mario Party track. Though I do feel other tracks are better fits. Still. Not bad. Fluffy Buff being a remix of Gusty Garden? I don't see it at all. It's a spiritual successor but I don't think it's a remix. Regardless, it's a good choice. Bowser's Galaxy Reactor is a fine choice as well. Star Maze could work here... I've spoken on how I feel In the Final would work better as a handheld song. Overthere Stair? Huh. Well, your surprise pick was a BIG surprise. It's catchy! But not very popular... Or iconic... The Super Mario Land Ending is a neat track... but I feel that it should go on a handheld stage. Dire Dire Docks is an odd pick. It's super popular but... it's kinda slow. Medleys with lots of individual songs usually have very simple songs or else they feel drawn out. No Rainbow Road theme is what I would call simple. Still, Rainbow Road in itself is good. The Main Theme from Galaxy 2 is also an excellent choice for this stage. Final Bowser Battle is also a good choice, being a memorable song and also fits this stage quite well.
Throwback Galaxy is a remix of the very recognizable Main Theme from Super Mario 64 and I wouldn't have minded if you kept the original version in your list.
Dark Bowser from Mario & Luigi 3 fits the stage well, same for Mario Party 9's Main Theme. Both songs are important for their own games and have enough merit to be in the Smash Bros. series. Though you may have stated you only have one song that is not from the Galaxy series, that is not entirely correct, since some of your choices are remixes of songs from older Mario games, therefore I will judge them based on their origin and not their particular version.

Well what a great start to the judging! All of those tracks were rather intensely important and mostly rather popular (you even included that in your reasoning
). I enjoyed the variety given by Plank puzzle, though i feel like plank puzzle would feel a tad odd on the stage (with the fighting and whatnot). Funny you mention Bouy Base though, because on my phone I have a game radio app that allows me to record what i hear and replay it later whenever I want (I always enjoy listening to it on my way home from school ha!
). One of my recordings is of Bouy base - but like any radio station, they attempt to make one song lead into another. At the point where the song is winding down to begin again, it changes from that to a pipe/flute version of 'the place i'll return to someday', so I keep expecting that to play! It also happens with MK wii which is part of the 30th anniversary for mario so I expect that to go into a remixed ending of SMW.
Anywho, good work! The only thing i'm disappointed in is that my favourite Rainbow Road is 64 so I was like 'aw' when it was MK wii but it's not even point changing - TO EACH THEIR OWN, MY FRIEND. ;_;

Good, good! This one was really difficult to grade, actually - but I think it turned out rather well! Hisstocrat battle is so weird - because it reminds me so much of Final Fantasy X's 'Brass de chocobo' I was like "WOAH" when I was listening to it. But good!

Really really well rounded list. I'm giving a lot of high scores for this one but yeah I really like the selection. Included staples, had some out there 'wow' sounds, very well received and pretty well could be envisioned on the stage. Also, respect for the MK 7 track, that's my second favourite RR theme.

Good gosh man, when I first glanced at the list I freaked out but going through it all, you didn;t just have solid picks but some of them were really, almost subtly/sneakily smart picks in that they filled a really unique slot - Throwback Galaxy is an AWESOME way to refer back to the past whilst keeping in tune with Galaxy themes. I don't know how you did it but this list was actually rather astounding for reasons I can't quite explain. Though I would have loved to see gusty garden or another staple in there, I realise the difficulty with an 8 song limit.
APC99:
Good to see ya back, and looking forward to judging it seeing as Galaxy is one of your all time favourites. I know that feel too man, I never owned galaxy myself but borrowed the game from a friend to play it, start to finish (and get a few of the purple coin maps done

Good! Good good good! the castle theme IS overdone a bit, i'll admit - I think the reason people put up with World is because it's becoming rather aged these days and the nostalgia factor creeps in, whereas this castle theme hasn;t quiote had a chance to do so. Also the melodical structure of World's theme allowed me to listen to it for so long - it was neatly constructed, in some ways similar to the very famous main mario theme and in others a total stand-out. Really individual, it allowed remixes of itself to differ in their own ways. I guess not the most complex thing but hey us VGM listeners can take a bit of that (yoshi's island athletic theme is and always will be one of my absolute favourite tunes in the world <3)! The list is solid and like last time I enjoyed the use of throwback galaxy!

Your variety is one of the best i've seen! From the epic, to the almost frightening or intimidating, to the calm and so on. In doing so some of your tracks weren't so important that they could be guaranteed a pick so it was slightly shaken but you came back solidly on popularity and fit. It surprised me how well Dire dire docks could work on a galaxy stage!

Well done! You know, the more and more I come to judge this round, the more I realise there's no hard and fast rule - because so many of the tracks are popular, important and well-fitting, there's quite a few roads you can take and this achieved it really well. I would have, just perhaps, limited it to 1 M&L track and used something else in the spot - but that said, it was still pretty spot on. I liked the rainbow road medley aspect of it too (it also meant there was no tossing and turning over which version to use!
) and the ratio of galaxy songs to one another was pretty neatly done, in my books. As I said, well done!

Yep, N64 RR is my favourite too. <3 But in any case, variety was absolutely on point! The first person i've seen to use comet observatory and I actually think it could work, especially the more grandiose feel of the third rendition. Stardust road was really nice but more or less unknown and I was worried it wouldn't fit the fighting atmosphere but then I thought of Midna's lament and decided it was plausable - on the other hand, I enjoyed the choice of SMG 2's bowser battle, even though I like the first. Overall your scores were really high due to great picking, it was only one or two tracks I think that could have been chosen over another to really make it wow on me. Still, really really respectable.

This was hard to mark. Like, really hard. Loved the new songs to listen to but many of them I became unsure of in my approach to marking. How definitively important WAS Space Land, i asked myself; Were the tracks different enough to each other to warrant the score in variety? I actually reviewed it and decided on a 9 but aside from Starship Mario there wasn't really anything contemplative, you know? That said, Bowser's Reactor was the perfect song to get you back on track. Being notably important, it offered a darker aspect to the songs which was definitely needed and it's hella popular. Glad you included the medley too, it REALLY helped me decide on the higher score overall. A bit deviant, perhaps but overall you kept composure and hit the ground running with it so i'm not going to shoot you down for it.... if that makes any sense at all.

Wow. Honestly. Grats on being my highest score ever!! Pretty stunned for words.
Every pick in this list just spelled 'pitch perfect' for me. My ONLY piece of advice would have been adding some kind of slower, more contemplative piece in there somewhere. That would have made this list absolutely perfect for me but even so, this still seems absolutely believable for me. But where to actually start - Every track could be interpreted as somewhat vital to the series. Battlerock could have standed to be a weakness but i've seen it in half a dozen other line-ups so far and I always found it rather well considered anyway when I played it. Throwback was a perfect way (as I keep saying) to initiate back to 64 and keep tradition. All of those tracks are well received - and i've made a point of not distincting between the RR versions, so long as it works (which it did). Variety was achieved in heroic, sinister, quirky and grandiose pieces. Every track WORKED on the stage. This was where I was worried about the RR version you used but the icy feel of it compliments a space theme (I dunno, space is cold!?
). Indeed, the airship theme was absolutely ingenious - an old staple that is proven to work on a 'spacey' level. Now, obviously when considering a 10 on any aspect I go in depth to any 'non-secure' track (secure tracks are staples slike Good Egg and Gusty Garden) - my final test for your 10 on fit was the Final Bowser Battle of SMG 2 (I've seen it in a couple other entries but had to listen to it again for this purpose) and pretty soon after it started I knew you were getting a full score in this one too. So well done, I'm so happy with this list, thanks for making it!

Continuing on the good streak! Very pleased with the variety in this list - lots of different tones and feels were combined really well. Your wild card was alright but I felt like, as much as I love Overthere Stair that it wouldn't feel so great with the fighting aspect. It's also sometimes critisised as being overly repetitive (I would know because a while back it was one of my favourite tunes from SPM) but I felt it was still decently solid and your other tracks carried it well enough to represent a very respectable score. Well done. ^_^

If I wasn't a judge, i'd probably never prepare a list in advance. But then again, i'm the kind of guy that gets an idea of what he wants in his head early on. Because i'm pretty decent at figuring out the songs that work on a stage and the tone and feel that comes with each song, i'd probably end up picking my 'best 8' and sticking them there with regard to the staples. :o

I was originally worried about the fit but I thought that, indeed, Dire dire docks does fit in quite well with a space theme and could be done with fighting around. I do enjoy 3D land's overworld but worry it doesn;t quite go with Galaxy, in fact I reckon it's safe to say 3D Land will probably end up going along with a different Mario stage (perhaps the one from the original trailer in the 3DS?). That said, I felt if you're going to include it, it IS important to its series and such so I decided it wasn;t really too bad. Overall some quirky picks and that served you really well in variety where you had just about a track or two from heaps of different styles and everything. It was really pleasant to hear the track-list, nicely done! :-)

But yep, you really achieved a range of songs in this list, from heroic to contemplative to sinister to funny to quirky, etc. SMW's ending theme is one of my all time favourite tracks, like, ever, but I feel like on a Galaxy stage it would be slightly out of place. I similarly enjoy SM3DL but feel like it's a bit odd on a Galaxy stage. Still, all very important and your overall list on the stage was solid. ^_^

Yeah, like most judges I feel like The Moon, as awesome as it is, wouldn't be put on the most Mario-centric stage of all. It came out of importance, though I didn't take away too much because technically, 'The Moon' is hella important to Ducktales as a franchise. it's like in maths, 'Carried Incorrect Working'. Tried not to penalise you too much for it and the rest of the list is pretty solid. I do indeed see how Try, try again fits in with a space kind of theme! :-)

Unfortunately I felt like Bouldergeist didn;t work so well in your favour. The boss is kinda memorable but there's too much else to Galaxy to have him take the spot of, say, Good Egg or even Bouy Base. He is a rather well known boss though so I didn;t leave you out on popularity. Fit I felt fell down a bit with 'To the gateway'. Of course an intensely peaceful track, I felt it almost too peaceful for fighting to feel right on it. This could be personal preference, as I can see fighting on Comet Observatory - but perhaps the rhythm of Comet Observatory allows it to keep in time (pun half-intended
) with the fighting style of what's going on around it. Finally, I feel like Castle Bleck would have done better in that final spot than Count Bleck's theme, perhaps because of the direction it takes and it's feel? Still, a decent tracklist and I enjoyed purple comet and Gusty Garden as staples. ^_^

I suppose my overall comment for the list is solid! very much liked 'attack of the airships' because I think it's a smart way to put a very important traditional track in that seems very relevant. The Sunshine Boss battle was certainly quirky but I felt like you had little calmness or contemplation in your tracks, while it focused on a very sinister feel, which I think Star picked up on as well. otherwise a lot of staples were used here... which was fine! :-)

A list focusing on the staples of the series and what brought it upwards. I think perhaps a non-galaxy track could have provided a little more variety but even within I was kinda surprised you didn't utilise the Comet Observatory as 'Rosalina's main theme' to give a slower, calmer feel in the tracklist. I would have perhaps had the sky stations together in a medley of sorts and used the extra space for something else. Still, there is no denying the relevance of pretty much all of these tracks and thus, a totally respectable score here. ^_^

I was a little torn on giving you the 10 in variety but I think the defining factor in your full score there was Star World. On the other hand, a few of your tracks aren;t seen as that important. On the other, OTHER hand, I felt your tracks really fit the space theme perfectly. In fact, returning to Star World, I thought the use of the violin and piano gave it a calming feel that still worked with fighting in a spacey atmosphere. So a bit up and down the track but you ended up with a nice score. :D

I found myself a bit underwhelmed with the acapella mario theme in terms of how it fit on stage. I liked the quirkiness associated with it but there was nothing sinister, nor contemplative in any of your tracks, which I was really looking for (to be fair quite a few people have left contemplative or slow tracks out). The NSMBU theme was fun and all but if there's another mario stage for it to be on, I also feel like it wouldn't fit so well on the Galaxy atmosphere. Still, lots of solid tracks and I'm always supportive of a smart decision (Throwback galaxy is a really neat and tidy way to include 64), so there you go! :-)

You had an interesting list that put up a lot of new tracks. Unfortunately quite a lot of those tracks weren't overly important to the series but quite a few of them were rather popular which was a nice saving grace! On variety I felt no contemplation in the tracks and was worried about a sinister-type feel but decided to give you the benefit of the doubt on that Dino Pirahna could be interpreted as somewhat intimidating/sinister/that kind of thing. Outer space added to the feel of space which was nice but I felt the dream team boss battle and even for some reason Yoshi Star galaxy were a bit out of place - perhaps Yoshi Star Galaxy is meant to feel very different from the gateway? Still, decent, it's just I guess I felt like one or two of your wild cards could have made it but not all. Aw well! :-)

That decision to include the medley was just awesome! I know exactly what you mean about telling a story through the music (I love doing that myself :D ). It saved you in variety too because I was looking for something contemplative and the Comet Observatory being chucked in there really did make a difference. Your next picks were really solid. Puzzle Plank I really enjoy listening to, I'm still undecided on whether it would fully work on the stage but at this point I felt the other tracks were easily fitting enough to lift it up. Melty Monster i'm becoming increasingly fond of and I do enjoy the grandiose and perhaps intimidating aspects of its sound which is actually really fun to listen to. Overall, the picks were well thought out and I enjoyed going through this one. Great work!

I really enjoyed the idea to use the Tank theme, and I actually think it goes very well with the space theme of galaxy. To be absolutely stark honest, this list was difficult to mark in that you'd have a song that was rather ingeniously helping out a category and then not as much helping out another. The Tank theme, for instance, wasn't incredibly important, however you had the Final Battle of M&L being important and fitting to help it out... it's kinda hard to explain. In the end I found 9's in all categories to be pretty accurate, however I would have liked to see the eighth song and perhaps that would have given you a 10 in some of those. Still, happy with the list!

And there's my first perfect score! This is what i'd call a Galaxy dream-list. I was torn originally on whether to give you the 10 on variety. That was my biggest issue (and looking at star's grades that was as well) but I gave you the perfect score on that due to Bowser's Galaxy reactor. The rest are pretty self-explanatory in that they were all important, they were all insanely popular and i'd say they fit just perfectly. Another list I think is totally plausable in actually seeing. The tracks you picked are some of the greatest the Galaxy series has to offer. For that, my golden star of awesomeness and a 40/40. Absolutely well done. Oh and the medley of both Comet Observatory and Starship Mario was just the right thing.
Marker's notes:
Well done to everyone who participated! The lowest score that was given this round by me was a 7 and that's not very low, in case you're wondering. You all had a really solid idea of where to go with your tracks and even the ones I critisised, there was merit in your thought processes when picking these tracks that I wouldn;t want to ignore.
The biggest issues I found were weird, because they were either present or they weren't and there was no real in-between. For instance, with variety, I was looking for a slow, contemplative track in addition to the heroic ensemble that Galaxy usually portrays. In many of the first track-lists I was doing, I found this aspect of galaxy scarce in the lists. It did pick up later on though, which I enjoyed.
The next issue I noticed was only a minor one (because there weren't too many issues this round) but it was where some tracks were taken from series that probably should have been saved for a different round (New Super Mario Brothers tracks, i'm looking at you!) In these cases I usually mentioned they would probably do better on a different mario stage but tried not to penalise particularly harshly for them.
In the end, with these lists there were many ways to achieve solid and high scores. The 39 and 40 I gave out were very special cases where the tracks were not only staples but were smart - I always like to refer to Throwback Galaxy and the Airship theme as being great ways to return to tradition whilst keeping the atmosphere of Galaxy intact. There were other ways to be 'smart', though. In the 40 I gave out, I think one of the smartest things they did was put 2 contested songs together (Comet Observatory + Starship Mario) in a medley to include both where most people used one or the other. And it was ingenious because it only took up the one spot.
In any case, just about everyone had things I liked and praised and most had a few things I gave some feedback for. Still, it was a pleasant (albeit long as heck!) round to mark, so i'm looking forward to you guys getting your marks back. Good luck and congratulations to the winner! [/collapse]

I personally will not grade down Rainbow Road, but I will ask the winner if they want it included in their list or saved for the new 3DS stage. If they choose to save it, I will let them replace it with one song that the judges agree on.
And so...

This Rounds winner is...
HADES!
But if Hades hadn't entered the winner would have been...
TAICHIYAEGACHI!
Congrats Hades (TaichiYaegachi)! Your list is the winner! Later today I'll update the channel and the Wall of Honor with your list! You will need to talk with me about what to do with Rainbow Road!
Because of my busy schedule, you'll have two days to mull over results.
Next round will not have this many people....
