Darn, so preparing for Reset Bomb Factory. Love me some Kid Icarus now...

I'll enjoy this a lot.

I did say that everyone should be able to participate in this round.

I mean, who DOESN'T know Mario music? We thought it would be a good idea to have another stage from a more famous series before we delve into the more obscure stuff.

But we'll get there, in due time... :)

Super Mario 3D Land Main Theme/Overworld Theme (Super Mario 3D Land)
Beach Theme (Super Mario 3D Land)
Overworld Theme (New Super Mario Bros. 2)
Athletic Theme (Super Mario Bros. 3)
Super Mario 64 Main Theme/Bob-Omb Battlefield (Super Mario 64)
Princess Peach's Castle (Super Smash Bros. Melee)
Rainbow Cruise (Super Smash Bros. Melee)
Title / Ending (Super Mario World) (Super Smash Bros. Brawl)

The unique thing about this stage is the fact that you start off in an overworld like area from past Mario games and then you enter a watery area. My music selection is to balance the two. The SM3DL overworld theme, NSMB2 overworld theme, Peach's Castle from Melee, and Bob-Omb Battlefield do that justice. The sort of beachy and tropical theme is handled by the SM3DL beach theme, SMB3 athletic theme, and the Title and Ending remix from Brawl. I felt as though Rainbow Cruise from Melee fitted in with the style of the stage. I was originally going to do the slide theme from SM64, but Rainbow Cruise best suits this stage.

Well, I guess I can submit my list. Don't expect to do very well though.

I tried to limit myself to mostly songs from handheld games, on account of this being a 3DS stage
Mario 3D Land Overworld
-Confirmed, so it's required.
NSMB2 Main Theme
-The main thing of one of the most prolific Mario sub-series in recent years. IMO barring an unforseen NSMB it's likely to be included in some form in at least one version of Smash 4, if not both.
Mario 3D Land Athletic Theme
-This theme also popped up in the Galaxy games, so it's fairly recurring.
Super Mario 64 Main Theme
-Because Super Mario 64 DS was a thing.
NSMB2 Athletic Theme
-Has appeared in pretty much every NSMB game along side the main theme, so I think it's a possibility.

Edit: I'm hesitant to include any music/compositions from Melee/Brawl because, if Brawl is anything to go by, past music will likely wind up on past stages. Of course, I could be completely wrong, but that's my gut instinct.

Song No.1

Name: Overworld Theme

Universe: Super Mario

Game of Origin: Super Mario 3D Land (2011)

Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89VuI2nyINw

Reasoning: already confirmed. Derp.

Song No. 2

Name: New Super Mario Bros. 2 Theme

Universe: Super Mario

Game of Origin: New Super Mario Bros. 2 (2013?)

Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=au3JK3Fabw0&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Reasoning: I think its obvious that we will have a mix of 3D Land and NSMB2 songs. That said, since Brawl had the NSMB Wii theme, I expect Smash 4 to have this one.

Song No. 3

Name: Super Mario Land Theme

Universe: Super Mario

Game of Origin: Super Mario Land

Link; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85gT96H6JwQ&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Reasoning: Since Sakurai seems to want to reflect on handheld games with the 3Ds version, I expect him to at least add the theme of the first handheld Mario. Remixed, of course.

Song No. 4

Name: Snow Theme

Universe: Super Mario

Game of Origin: This specific theme is from Super Mario 3D Land.

Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNB9myy8utE&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Reasoning: The one no one expected! Think about it; Many, if not all 3D and Modern Mario's have an icy/snowy level. Its not unheard of for Sakurai to choose 'generic' stage songs (See: Kirby) and even then, this theme not only is a good representative of a common theme in Mario, but also catchy and fitting and unpopular. It screams Sakurai.

Song No. 5
Name: Dream Battle

Universe: Super Mario (Mario and Luigi Sub Series)

Game of Origin: Mario and Luigi Dream Team

Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIPQmJDmyGg&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Reasoning: Dream Team probably will have music, but no stage. I expect one of the more light hearted, yet pumping iconic themes used, and the Dream Battle is absolutely perfect.

Song No. 6

Name: Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins Theme

Universe: Super Mario

Game of Origin: Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins

Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZNJpo23mm4&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Reasoning: Along with Super Mario Land, I think 6 Golden Coins will get a song too.

Song No. 7

Name: Wario Land Theme

Universe: Wario Land

Game of Origin: Wario Land

Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0a8-qo5ZfjY&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Reason: Again, to reflect on the handhelds history. I also doubt we'll get a Wario Land stage, so it probably would fit better here than on a WarioWare stage, imo. Also, its Wario, so its not really a non-Mario song. Kinda.

Song No. 8

Name: Star World

Universe: Super Mario

Game of Origin: New Super Mario Bros. 2

Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXk4VQIZEiE&feature=youtube_gdata_player

reasoning: A more popular and memorable song from New Super Mario Bros. 2, and I think at least two NSMB2 songs are inevitable.

And that's it. Bear in mind that I accounted for the possibility of a Mario Kart 3D stage, and possibly 2 or more Wii U stages that could handle the Wii/GameCube/N64 themes.
Should I collapse this?

Mind that, if you are including music from handheld Mario titles only, you can always include music from Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World, thanks to these games having been released on Game Boy consoles before.

I assumed that the Wii U could cover that.
Yeah, I know, but it was just something I think everyone wouldn't mind to know.

After all, we have a Gerudo Valley stage on the 3DS version. Ever heard of the Super Mario Advance series which was a series of remade NES and SNES Mario games? They all included a remake of Mario Bros. too.

Super Mario Bros. had a Deluxe edition with the Lost Levels, artwork and other such extras on the Game Boy Color.

OK, I think I'm finished!

Name: Overworld Theme
Universe: Super Mario Bros.
Game of Origin: Super Mario 3D Land (2011, 3DS)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89VuI2nyINw
Reason: It's already included in the stage, and why not? It's a perfect song, a jazzy upbeat tune to match the fun background and platforming mania that is Mario.

Name: Muda Kingdom
Universe: Super Mario Bros.
Game of Origin: Super Mario Land (1989, Game Boy)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7Ol9YqAu6M
Reason: Let's not forget the original! Not including the popular overworld theme from Super Mario Land was decided to make this list a bit more expansive, not just overworld themes. Muda Kingdom has a very whimsical feel to it, making it match the crazy world of Mario very well. It's not the most popular Mario song out there, but it's still a lovely song.

Name: New Overworld Theme
Universe: Super Mario Bros.
Game of Origin: New Super Mario Bros. (2006, DS)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GK41pLUuP0
Reason: The last overworld theme on this list, I swear! This song is actually one of the better-known Mario themes, and it's been remixed several times for the New Super Mario Bros. series AND was in Brawl as an alternate track for Delfino Plaza, it better fits the New Super Mario Bros-esque scrolling stages, referencing one of the better Mario songs in a while, not including anything from Mario Galaxy.

Name: Retro Mario
Universe: Super Mario Bros.
Game of Origin: Super Mario 3D Land (2011, 3DS)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXWpswuPfXs

Reason: C'mon, we need some sort of remix of this song in the game! Retro Mario, one of three 3D Land songs on this list, returns to the series' roots and gives us the original Super Mario Bros. overworld theme remixed for us! It has that nice "chiptune" vibe to it, which gives it a bit of an echoing sound, which would sound very cool on this stage, would it not? And will you deny that this is a classic?

Name: World 4
Universe: Super Mario Bros.
Game of Origin: Super Mario 3D Land (2011, 3DS)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7oFWdlBCxgM
Reason: A very different song for this stage, yet I regret nothing. Just listen to it! It sounds like an alternate track for it! Although not widely known, it does have a certain Smash vibe to it that makes it seem fit for the stage. I can't explain it, but... it seems right, to me.

Name: Sticker Star Battle Theme
Universe: Super Mario Bros.
Game of Origin: Paper Mario: Sticker Star (2012, 3DS)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmEay7Ys83g
Reason: I'm taking some inspiration from the RPGs, now! Although Sticker Star was... lackluster for a Paper Mario title... the music was still amazing. The battle theme is uplifting and seems like a natural song to match the stage.

Name: They’re Pretty Tough, Should We be Careful?
Universe: Super Mario Bros.
Game of Origin: Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story (2009, DS)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=so5E7Y6yVqc
Reason: The song is a bit darker than the others on this list, but it does sound very upbeat and fast-paced for a Mario game, and then we get a bit darker into it, which adds some atmosphere to the music. That, and Bowser's Inside Story is an amazing game. If I'm proud of one selection on this list, it's this.

Name: Star Maze
Universe: Super Mario Bros.
Game of Origin: Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (1992, Game Boy)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmD9WnLYR5I
Reason: A remix of this would definitely fit the action in the scrolling stage. Besides, it's just an amazing song for the Game Boy's abilities. Although this could also work with some sort of orchestral remix would be epic as well to match a Galaxy stage, considering it's location. But, being a handheld title, I believe it works very well with the Super Mario 3D Land stage as well, if not better.

I tried my best to make them all handheld titles, so I hope you enjoy it!

Sweet! I prepared in advance for this. My theme for the music selection for this stage is that it will be celebrating Mario's legacy on the 3DS as well as his legacy on past Nintendo handhelds. As such, there will be songs from his biggest titles on the 3DS and his previous portable advenures. Here we go!
EDIT: Added reasons.

Name: Overworld Theme
Universe: Super Mario
Origin: Super Mario 3D Land (2011)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89VuI2nyINw
Reason: It's already confirmed. =P

Name: Athletic Theme
Universe: Super Mario
Origin: Super Mario 3D Land (2011)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzwjXiYs6vk
Reason: It's a pretty well known song, it's one of my favorites, and I think it fits the stage rather well.

Name: New Super Mario Bros. 2 Overworld Theme
Universe: Super Mario
Origin: New Super Mario Bros. 2 (2012)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vp_awKn-RPc
Reason: Music from NSMB is guaranteed to make an appearance, so why not use the most recent version?

Name: Blue Skies, White Clouds/Warm Fuzzy Plains
Universe: Paper Mario (Not sure if it counts as Super Mario or not.)
Origin: Paper Mario: Sticker Star (2012)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qI5fmM0J3cY
Reason: I think it's a good fit for the stage.

Name: World Map
Universe: Mario & Luigi (Again, not sure if it counts as Super Mario since it's a spin-off)
Origin: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga (2003)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrRK1g_F8C0
Reason: I wanted to include something from the Mario & Luigi games to represent the GBA era of Mario. My original choice was the battle theme, but that seemed too repetitive and boring, so I went with the world map theme. I imagine it sounded a lot better on the 3DS, maybe even a bit faster to fit the action on screen.

Name: Super Mario Land Overworld Theme
Universe: Super Mario
Origin: Super Mario Land (1989)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_-HvB3zbC4
Reason: The 3DS version of SSB4 seems to be paying tribute to more of the portable games, and since the first Mario game on the 3DS was named Super Mario 3D Land (which I saw as a throwback to Super Mario Land), why not include the main theme from the first portable Mario game?

Name: Super Mario Land 2 Overworld Theme
Universe: Super Mario
Origin: Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins (1992)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RLHRZ0370Q
Reason: A good, fast, actiony song for a fighting game. Plus, SML2 marks the first appearance of Wario.

And that's my entry! Hope you enjoy it and I look forward to the grading!

As you may notice if you read all of my scores, I had you solely atop my list with 38 points. I did think yours was ever so sightly better than GRC's... but all of my fellows disagreed.

As for the next stage... I doubt you'll have any problems with it. But skipping those you don't know is probably advisable.
I did notice that, and I'm grateful. I agree that skipping stages I'm unfamiliar with is a good idea. Not only does it save me a headache, but it also means there's one less set of music for you judges to grade.

Overworld themes up the wazoo. Be that as it may, I stand by it. The overworld themes always prove to be the most beloved and memorable tunes throughout the series. They're all equally iconic to the series, so instead of stuffing them all into a single medley, I felt it fitting to leave them as standalone songs for the most part. I tried to span as much of the sidescrolling (with an emphasis on handheld) Mario series as possible, though Super Mario World is notably absent as its music tends to get associated with Yoshi in Smash Bros. The tracks from the games more typically associated with the home consoles shouldn't feel too out-of-place; they're incredibly recognizable, and I think that makes them transcend the boundaries of "handheld vs home console". Besides, what would the new Mushroom Kingdom stage be without the SMB1 theme?

The Athletic Theme is there for good measure, balancing out the overworld themes with another iconic song; this one having been a reoccurring tune for decades. Ladida Plains is a choice that I feel very confident about, as while it comes from a spinoff game, that game was still a handheld, Mario-universe sidescroller. The track itself is whimsical and bouncy, and the level it comes from is aesthetically similar to the New Super Mario Bros. grassland aesthetic, making it fit like a glove and serve as a nice throwback.[/collapse]

Reason: Confirmed

Name: Overworld Theme
Universe: Super Mario
Origin: Super Mario 3D World(2013)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5cFJ1yESvg
Reason: If you remove the sound effects.. you get the idea that this song will be perfect for this stage. It also represents the upcoming new Mario game on the Wii U.

Name: Athletic
Universe: Super Mario
Origin: New Super Mario Bros 2 (2012)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VN3wFbozcG8
Reason: It's upbeat and fits with the stage's look and feel. It's a side scrolling stage just like the 'New Super Mario Bros.' games. It's also from the handheld 3ds version of 'New Super Mario Bros.' games.

Name: Slide Theme
Universe: Super Mario
Origin: Super Mario 64 (1996)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-otEdq-Ozo
Reason: Upbeat and nastalgic. Princess Peach's castle is also in the background of this stage.. and the slide was one of the best parts of Mario 64. The song is fast, fun, great for a battle.

Name: Birabuto Kingdom
Universe: Super Mario
Origin: Super Mario Land (1989)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XnFlyj9Rn8
Reason: Mario Land needs to be represented in this portable Smash Brothers stage. It's the first Mario game on handheld. I was fighting over Birabuto or Muda Kingdom. But I decided on Birabuto since it's tempo is a little higher for fighting since the songs are also similiar. I'd would love to hear this song orchestrated from Smash.

Name: Athletic Theme
Universe: Super Mario
Origin: Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (1992)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICXltEUJ41U
Reason: It's not only fast paced.. it's a classic amazing Mario Land game with great music. This is a good oppurtunity to play this song.

Name: Athletic Theme
Universe: Super Mario
Origin: Super Mario Bros. 3 (1988)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_2_ZJHwxbk
Reason: The main reason I choose this song is due to the Donut Lifts that appear in this stage. These first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3. And this song represents the side scroll traveling climb. It can stay as a bit tune or be remixed.

Name: Dreamy Pi'illo Castle
Universe: Super Mario
Origin: Mario & Luigi: Dream Team (2013)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ag_BzE7wdY
Reason: Pi'illo Castle's theme in general would fit perfectly for the stage. Mario & Luigi: Dream Team had some great music and melodies and I choose this song due to the beat and fun joyful melody.

Well aren't you impatient.

I have college you know. I'm a contributing member of society. I do things with my life.

10 points from RavenClaw GRC.

In all seriousness, I try the best I can. I have a busy life. Give a man a break. XD
Hey, I'm a college goer too. I know where you're coming from. I was mainly yanking your chain anyway, man. But the lack of contest does make me cry sometimes. Just wanted to give you a nice little "welcome back from real life" message was all!

I will create a list shortly. Probably. Mario's so diverse, I'm not sure if I can even tackle this one actually.

YES! My wish came true... Holy crap! So many have already picked the obvious favorites. Well, better get to work...

My question for this round: Does including multiple variation tracks count as medleys? I ask because two tracks in Brawl (Delfino Plaza and Ricco Harbor) consisted of the main track followed by the variation (the Yoshi drums). So would it count against my one medley to have these variations included with the main themes of my choices?

No. It's the same track. At least that's how Brawl treated it.

Okay, good.

Still, I'm a bit worried that my idea may overstep the boundaries of variation and into medley. But I already have another medley idea... Would it be okay if I PM you the concept and you could tell me whether it'd be considered a medley in this case or if it is an acceptable variation concept?

I would like to join in the fun!
Name: Overworld Theme
Universe: Super Mario
Origin: Super Mario 3D Land (2011)
Reason: Already Confirmed
Name: Slider
Universe: Super Mario
Origin: Super Mario 64 DS (2004)
Reason: Uptempo and frenetic sounding; a perfect track for an intense, yet whimsical battle.
Name: Overworld (Versus Mode)
Universe: Super Mario
Origin: New Super Mario Bros (2006)
Reason: The New Super Mario Bros overworld theme would fit right in, but I didn't want to go such an obvious route. The Versus Mode song provides a nice variation without losing the any of the funky feel (adding even more in my opinion)
Name: Athletic Theme
Universe: Super Mario
Origin: Super Mario 3D Land (2011)
Reason: A return to 3D Land, with a tribute to Mario 3. One of the catchiest and most memorable tunes in Mario history and fits right in with the stage.
Name: Decathlon Time
Universe: Super Mario
Origin: Mario Party DS (2007)
Reason: An oddball track that keeps things moving and, true to the name, feels like people are in a race for the lead.
Name: Giddy Sky 1
Universe: Super Mario
Origin: Super Princess Peach (2006)
Reason: A fun and flighty tune that doesn't really sound to feel like a song to fight to, but that's okay. This one is more atmospheric than anything else. The beauty of Smash Bros is being able to have a song or two outside the norm.
Name: HooHoo Village
Universe: Super Mario
Origin: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga (2003)
Reason: Another unexpected peppy tune outside of the main adventure/overworld themes that would fit right into the stage theme.
Name: Retro Theme
Universe: Super Mario
Origin: Super Mario 3D Land (2011)
Reason: Rounding things out with my last 3D Land entry. The classic Mario theme is a must to include and the 3D Land incarnation is a very fun and faithful update to the original tune that keeps the chiptune sound while keeping it modern enough to not clash with the modern looking stage.

Remember! Handheld stage, therefore handheld song majority is best!

Name: Overworld Theme
Series: Mario
Game of Origin: Super Mario 3D Land
  • Mandatory song, no need to really justify.
Name: Athletic Theme
Series: Mario
Game of Origin: Super Mario 3D Land
  • Very well known, complimentary piece to Overworld Theme.
  • Remix of a classic Super Mario Bros. 3 song, which can always find a place in Mario series representation.
Name: Main Theme
Series: Mario
Game of Origin: New Super Mario Bros.
Note: Although this song was in Brawl, I'm sticking to the idea of using either the original or a new remix altogether.
  • Overarching theme of the entire New Super Mario Bros. set of games, therefore very important.
  • Represents a significant era of Mario that, while not the same as 3D Land, matches up with it.
Name: Beach Theme
Series: Mario
Game of Origin: New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Note: This version is whenever you're riding a Yoshi, hence the percussion. It adds to the song without distracting from it, at least.
  • One of the most recurrent themes since NSMB Wii's entry in the series.
  • Good to have variety beyond main themes and overworld themes.
  • Fits especially well with the oceany segment of the level.
Name: Super Mario Land (Overworld Theme / Athletic Theme)
Series: Mario
Game of Origin: Super Mario Land / Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins
Note: Two-song medley of the Super Mario Land games. The overworld theme of the first one and the athletic theme of the second one.
  • The first set of handheld Mario games and therefore relevant to Mario in the handheld Smash.
  • Two classic Mario songs that aren't used often but are nonetheless well known to older gamers.
  • Mixing two Mario songs together seems perfectly reasonable when the Mario library of music is so HUGE.
Name: They're Pretty Tough, Should We be Careful?
Series: Mario
Game of Origin: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
  • Popular song of one of the most well-received games of the Mario & Luigi series, therefore iconic.
  • Represents an side of the Mario series besides main-series platformers.
  • Unique vibe from the rest of the songs, which are all upbeat and in their own tempo. The boss theme is more fitting for a fight in comparison.
Name: Ground Theme 2
Series: Super Smash Bros.
Game of Origin: Super Smash Bros.
  • Brawl music representation.
  • An absolute classic to the Mario Bros. series. A game without this melody is not a Smash game I'd ever want.
  • Fits well enough with the stage, unlike the Ground Theme 1 from Brawl.
Name: Dr. Mario
Series: Super Smash Bros.
Game of Origin: Super Smash Bros. Melee
  • Melee music representation.
  • A classic song to side-series Mario and Melee alike. Sakurai added Dr. Mario just to use it, so clearly he wouldn't disagree.
  • Quirky like the rest of the other songs. And seriously, is there anything to not love about good ol' Fever?

Did well before, may as well give it another go! AEM and I's lists are similar for the most part, so I already have a close recommendation for his if mine meets your fancy at all.

I was expecting this when Groose hinted toward me in my earlier post. Now let's see if I can add some variety :] :

NEW MUSHROOMY KINGDOM:

1. Overworld Theme
Universe: Super Mario
Game of Origin: Super Mario 3D Land (3DS, 2011)
Reason: T'was already confirmed.

2. Athletic Theme
Universe: Super Mario
Game of Origin: Super Mario 3D Land (3DS, 2011)
Reason: A remix of a fan-favourite track in SMB3. It's a pretty strong entry, and with almost everyone else sticking this on their list, it's kind of mandatory. Catchy and memorable, this needs little explanation.

3. Beach Theme
Universe: Super Mario
Game of Origin: Super Mario 3D Land (3DS, 2011)
Reason: Regarding SM3DLand's soundtrack, it's not that great. Although there is a couple of unique tracks, the rest is either remixes or unmemorable tunes. The Beach theme is one of the better themes, and it does a good job matching the stage's visuals, giving fights an upbeat, playful atmosphere. Someone pointed there's also a floating section reminiscent of 3D Land's beach/water levels, which makes this theme more homely.

4. Overworld Theme (Brawl Vers.)
Universe: Super Mario
Game of Origin: New Super Mario Bros. (DS, 2005)
Reason: The first "new" game that threw Mario back to it's 2D roots in the DS era, this song is important for a Smash stage that pays tribute to said games. A pleasant tune, I feel the melodies in this song may roll with the punches on-sxreen pretty well. It's enough to make you dance while fighting.

5. Overworld (SMB2)
Universe: Super Mario
Game of Origin: Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES, 1988)
Reason: A nice retro theme from an obscure Mario game. Debating between this overworld theme and the SMB3 overworld theme, I thought SMB2 just worked better for a fighting game. It also helps give this game some recognition, even if it wasn't originally a Mario game.

6. Athletic Theme (Galaxy Vers.)
Universe: Super Mario
Game of Origin: Super Mario World (SNES, 1990)
Reason: I know this song was used in Super Mario Galaxy 2, but if you ignore that fact and listen to the music, you know it's a remix of the Athletic theme in Super Mario World. I used this example just because it was more up to date in style. It has a very fast-paced rhythm that's bound to make you feel pressured and trigger happy, which is perfect for Super Smash Bros.

7. Star Maze
Universe: Super Mario
Game of Origin: Super Mario Land 2 (Game Boy, 1992)
Reason: Another retro tune that's popular and nostalgic in the Super Mario Land games. Star Maze made a lot of people, including me, feel star-eyed (facepalm) when we listened to this while jumping with Mario in space. The stage ain't no SMG, but the level the music originally played in was a scrolling level with tricky hazards, like the stage itself. With the right remix work, this theme could work pretty nicely.

8. They're Pretty Tough, Should We be Careful!?
Universe: Mario and Luigi RPG
Game of Origin: Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story (DS, 2009)
Reason: Because there's already one Mario stage, we'll be lucky if we get a second Mario stage that supports the M&L RPG series, which play very different to SMB. The series deserves respect, and this battle theme does that job. This theme has a different tone to my other song choices, giving smash fights a sense of urgency and players that sense of panic to beat their opponents back into their warp pipes.

9. Fury Volcano 1
Universe: Super Mario
Game of Origin: Super Princess Peach (DS, 2005)
Reason: Ignoring the name, this is probably the most obscure choice, as it's from the only game where Peach is the star of the show! (And Mario needs to be rescued.) I listened through the OST to see if there was a piece that could fit in this stage, and this theme takes Peach's cake! Jazzy, cool and catchy, this theme is another one that'll make you tango with your opponent as you try to step up and win to this beat. (I guess it also gives Peach some respect as a worthy fighter.)

Sorry if any of the text sounds cringe-worthy. It was hard to describe each song's importance. Does it matter if I have 9 songs instead of 8?

Well, here's my list...

[collapse=Now featuring EVALUATION TIME in the same spoiler tag!]

1. Name: Overworld Theme
Universe: Super Mario
Origin: Super Mario 3D Land
www.youtube.com/watch?v=89VuI2nyINw

Reason: Not only is it already confirmed, it's the defacto theme of Super Mario 3D Land.

2. Name: Ground Theme
Universe: Super Mario
Origin: Super Mario Bros.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGX4obVl64w

Reason: Has been in every Smash game to date (with multiple variations even!) Also, it's the main Mario theme. How can you NOT have it?!

3. Name: Rainbow Cruise
Universe: Super Mario
Origin: Super Smash Bros. Melee
www.youtube.com/watch?v=RniFX_iphuo

Reason: Another track from Smash's past. As Rainbow Cruise was itself a scrolling stage, it seemed like a good fit.

4. Name: New Overworld
Universe: Super Mario
Origin: New Super Mario Bros. 2
Contains the main theme, as well as its two variations.

Overworld (NSMB2)
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vp_awKn-RPc

Overworld (Leaf Beat)
www.youtube.com/watch?v=qM6U1Ld6KpI

Overworld (Special)
www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUJ_viZQfrc

Reason: This is the defacto theme of the NSMB series. I went with the two rendition as it's the more recent one and it pairs up with 3D Land nicely. The variation tracks are included for the theme to transition into, much like Delfino Plaza and Ricco Harbor used in Brawl. Originally, I had planned on including more variations, but that'd be more suited to a medley. And I already have a plan for one... So, I have stuck to one game. If anyone wants to steal this idea, feel free to do so because it's epic!

5. Name: Overworld (USA)
Universe: Super Mario/Subcon
Game of Origin: Super Mario Bros. 2 (USA)/Doki Doki Panic
www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqT5shNfTk0

Reason: This track featured in Melee, but not in Brawl. But I think that this theme is an underated classic along with the game that it was featured in. It deserves an encore appearance.

6. Name: Title/Ending (Super Mario World)
Universe: Super Mario
Origin: Super Smash Bros. Brawl
www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcakkTT1Y-g

Reason: As a track that was featured in Brawl for Delfino Plaza, another scrolling stage, it makes a good fit. Plus it represents Super Mario World.

7. Name: Athletic Theme
Universe: Super Mario
Origin: Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins

www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdESE94vQwg

Reason: This was a bit trickier. Brawl's Mushroomy Kingdom represented Super Mario Land and Mario and Luigi previously. But with only one space left, I opted for the unsung hero of Mario's 2D adventuring. Super Mario Land 2 was the very last 2D platformer our hero had until they came back anew! (Get it? A-New? Heh, heh... I'll show myself out.)

8. Name: Mario's Drawing Song
Universe: Super Mario
This a medley of the following songs:

Mario Drawing Song
Origin: Flipnote Studio
www.youtube.com/watch?v=m43W4o6its8

Special World 8
Origin: Super Mario 3D Land
www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSb2R9mJ1gY

Special World 8 - Crown
Origin: Super Mario 3D Land
www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQJbkJH6C9w

Reason: Now, you may be thinking to yourself "HUH?!" Well, I'll explain. Nintendo created and released a Flipnote called "Mario Drawing Song" to promote a Mario-themed competition. It was a song that essentially taught people how to draw Mario, hence the title. Later, the tune was remixed and used as the theme for Special World 8. This theme then received a second remix once a player unlocked the Crown level in 3D Land. I thought that'd it great to not only have the 3D Land tunes (as they're my absolute favorites in the game), but to include actual song in there, too. Hence, a medley.[/collapse]

I hope you enjoy my tracks, judges. My one regret is that there is too much platforming goodness and not enough room. I opted out of spinoffs in favor of the main platformers, which may hurt my variety. But in my opinion, these are must haves.

As Iwata would say, thank you for reading!

Well, you can always edit your entry up until the end of the round. Your tracks were pretty great and a lot of people may have thought on the same wavelength. There are a lot of memorable Mario tracks, after all.

[collapse=my mario stage music AKA overworld theme compalation]
Overworld theme - Super Mario 3D land (already confirmed)
Overworld theme - Super Mario 3D world (I put it here because I don't think it would fit in a galaxy-themed level)
Beach Theme - Super Mario 3D Land (one of my favorites. also fits pretty well)
Athletic Theme - Super Mario 3D Land (the most recent remix of a really classic tune that's been frequently remixed recently)
Overworld theme - New Super Mario Bros. (pretty obvious why, don't really need to explain)
Overworld theme - Super Mario Land (overworld theme of the first handheld mario. catchy, too.)
Battle theme - Mario & luigi superstar saga (first handheld Mario RPG)
Battle theme - Mario and luigi dream team (most recent mario RPG)

I know the snow theme is gonna keep me from winning, but I don't even care.
Wario Land, no Athletic Theme, and no returning songs is probably gonna hurt me too.

Well seeing as this round is still going on, I might as well give a last minute contribution.

So songs I can imagine being in the Super Mario 3D Land stage.

* Super Mario 3D Land main theme.
Pretty much a no brainer for this one, It's the main overworld theme from that game after all.

* Super Mario Bros main theme.
It's an iconic tume, I'm fairly certain we will be hearing a remix of that theme in the new 3DS stage once more.

* Super Mario World Yoshi's Island theme:
One of the iconic tunes of Super Mario World, it was remixed in Melee and Brawl. I can imagine this theme coming back (remixed again or not) in the 3DS stage of Super Mario 3D Land.

* Super Mario Land main theme:
A Pretty catchy song, I'm not sure if the song fits in it's current 8 bit glory but I would love to hear this classic tune remixed.

* Bomb-Omb Battlefield theme:
Another iconic tune, I'm not sure if it fits but I certainly wouldn't mind hearing it again (Unless we will get a Super Mario 64 DS stage for the 3DS version then I wouldn't mind hearing this tune there.)

* New Super Mario Bros main theme:
Not really much to say on this but I think we can kinda expect this tune to return, wether it is in the Super Mario 3D Land stage or in one of the inevitable "New Mushroom Kingdom" stages I can imagine at least one of the two versions to get. (or both)

* Super Mario Bros 2 theme:
Not sure if this theme fits into the 3D Land stage very well, (if there is a New Super Mario Bros stage which I'm sure we will get then I think this theme would suit better there or remixed) but I guess I'll have this song here too.

* Super Mario Bros 3 theme:
Another iconic song from Super Mario Bros 3, I kinda feel this song would suit the Super Mario 3D Land stage very well, not sure if they will keep it in this state or remix it once more.

I guess that's it really.... Hope I'm not too late... ^^;
