Question to maybe improve the contest?

Instead of waiting until all the judges compile their scores together, could they possibly each create their own scoring posts and simply average the scores once the fourth and final post is made? I don't think it takes a day and a half just for one judge to give their ratings, so choosing a format more like that would speed the process along rather than keep us all waiting, I believe.

Alternatively, just stick to the current suspenseful formula and make me cry longer...

So, anyone else freaking about the X & Y leaks?

Froakie final evo has been leaked by Pokebeach. Glad I'm not using him as a starter. (Fenniken in X, Chespin in Y)

I dunno...

This is pretty appealing. :troll:

This time is a special case. Some happenings are going on. I can't tell you what's happening but you will know soon enough.

Things will be much faster next time. I promise you.

I act

I actually like his final evolution :)

And I freaking love it. I was sold on him from the beginning, and there's not turning back now. The only game I haven't chosen the water stater in is RSE.

I do suggest we stop the Poke'talk here. It has a tendency to consume everything!

You got to remember: three of the judges have lives, so we have to wait for them to find some time to do things. This thread isn't exactly the highest priority out there.

Just so you know, we got our final vote in just a little bit ago. As soon as Old Man Swamp logs in, we should be good to go.

I'm not allowed to reveal just how highly you placed (that'd be telling), but I looked at what the other judges gave you. You did quite well this time.

The next stage is a 3DS stage, but I can tell it's not a Zelda stage. As for what stage it is, you'll find out soon enough.

As for why the results are taking more time, we will explain later. Just be patient until then.

Groose darn it, guys. You got me listening to Gilvasunna's Skyward Sword Soundtrack playlist as I do my schoolwork. Already up to Faron Woods.

As I said earlier, shoot me a PM if you have any questions about the contest or my personal grading of your entry. If I actually know the answer (which I may not---I have access to the judges' messageboard, but I am not the head judge and we run things lax there), I'll be sure to send you something back if I'm allowed.

Also, I'm sorry: I want to go all Phoenix Wright and everything on all of your entries, but doing so for so many would probably take me upwards of a week per a single round. I have to keep it to a fairly simple note, but I will elaborate on demand.

I'll try to remember to do so. Since we alternate Wii U and 3DS, I can assure you it won't be next.

We're spacing out games from the same series, so it will be a week at least before Spirit Tracks (or possibly Gerudo Valley will come before it). Sorry you missed out on Skyloft, though!

We decided that having nominations for what stages we do is unnecessary and a bit of a hindrance. I can safely say that it's more time consuming than it looks. Plus, nominations can lead to unwanted clusters instead of the nice, even flow that we're trying to create: for example, on Rate Their Chances we had a cluster of four Fire Emblem characters in six days, alienating those that hadn't played those games; the same would happen here.

We're going to alternate 3DS and Wii U stages as best we can; also, we will also spread out stages of the same series. When we talk about what game to do next, we do take into account what stages you've been wanting to do, but we also take into account the aforementioned balance.

As for why the results are taking more time, we will explain later. Just be patient until then.
Don't worry, we have a good reason! We're not incompetent bozos!

Because we have four judges, that means we have three people with actual lives; they're also spread over different timezones. It's tough to coordinate. And I can't speak for my bretheren here, but it personally takes me about five to ten minutes to grade each entry---more if I haven't heard of the song you've listed (I do enjoy discovering new tunes, though). We need to keep things a bit lax for our own sanity, but we're not completely lazy.

Having four judges is good, though...it's enough that your lists aren't greatly affected by a single judge's opinion, but few enough that we can keep things moving. Somewhat.

Well. I finally got a break from college.

Which means I can update the results!

[collapse="Swampasaur's Grades"]Alright!. Every time we grade I'm gonna use the term "heavy hitters."

The term being used for songs I feel should definitely be there.

I feel Skyloft has three.

"Ballad of the Goddess"
"Skyloft"
"The Sky"

I feel those should be in all lists.

Anyways! Let's get on with the lists!

(Every time I see a Gilvasunner video, I feel happy inside.)

Notes: Right off the bat, you have the heavy hitters! Good. You have a very domestic theme going on here. I kinda like it though it's risky as the songs might not work well in a fighting game. Kolkiri Forest and Clock Town work well. As does the medley (which is a very interesting choice btw). Overall, the towns theme do give off the same sort of vibe which does bring Variety down a tad. I'm not sure about Hyrule Castle Town. It's not very popular and is kinda slow... Ballad of the Wind Fish works well here. Overall, good job!

Notes: Heavy Hitters! Good. On top of that you have the Main Theme! You're off to a great start! Kolkiri Forest and Clock Town are here again! The two new pieces are Kakariko Village and Ordon Woods. Both are very peaceful songs that would need to be heavily remixed to work. Though both are important and relatively popular. Again. Domestic theme and large amount of slow songs. Good work!

Notes: Koloktos! Nice. I was definitely expecting that song here and there. You have the three heavy hitters. Kolkiri Forest again! You have some...odd choices though. Bazaar isn't really popular and doesn't quite fit. It spices up the variety and it's kinda important. Song of the Hero is.... completely out of the left field for me. I won't lie. I forgot this track existed. If remixed I could kinda see it working but... You took some risks which gave mixed results. Overall good job.

Notes: GROOSE IS ON THE LOOSE!!! Overall. Good choices. Got two heavy hitters, the main theme, a couple of Brawl tracks and the Groosiest theme ever. You also have a couple of oddball choices in here. The Nintendoland theme is okay and seems popular enough. Just doesn't fit very well... Crossbow Training.... Hm.... The theme is actually a remix or two, but I feel that rendition isn't very popular, much like the game. Some risks and some mainstays. Good job.

That theme.... ugh...... drives me insane....

Overall, while an atmospheric theme, it doesn't fit very well with the stage or a fight. Only one heavy hitter here, but you make up for it with lots of other good choices. MMC music was interesting... It fits but at the same time I just feel like it should be somewhere else. Groose's and Ghirahim's themes are both good choices. Hyrule Castle is a real classic and I'm not sure why it hasn't been in smash already. Nice going!

Only two heavy hitters... I spoke about most of these songs before. I don't think I talked about Windfall though. It's a popular and upbeat song. It fits perfectly. Although it may end up on a new WW HD stage. Won't let that affect grades though. It's unconfirmed.

Overall though. Good job!

Ah! Minish Cap music! Personally I would have saved this for the 3DS stages but... ya know it works here too I guess.

The Golden Sun music doesn't really fit here. I mean I think it should be on a Golden Sun stage or a Fire Emblem stage. Cool theme though.

I think you included too many Skyward Sword tracks. One or two less tracks from Skyward Sword and you would have been golden. Sorry but variety is gonna drag you down this time.

Notes: Ya got all three heavy hitters and the main theme. Windfish is there as is the OoT medley. The two picks that make this list stand out is Saria's Song and Faron Woods. I've talked about the others so I'll talk about these two. Saria's Song works perfectly for this stage though I think it would work even better on the Gerudo Vally stage. Don't you? Faron Woods is a bit of an odd choice. And I don't mean that in a bad way. It's a good piece and decently popular. Overall, ya done good.

That aside, you got the three heavy hitters, the main theme and some others. Not bad at all.

You have the same problem that Star has. Too many Skyward Sword songs. Fi's theme is important but...not really battle ready. Same with Lon Lon Ranch. We did say only 5-8 tracks. You have nine. Good tracks though. :D

This list was either Skyward Sword or creepy. XD

Notes: You picked the three most important songs from Skyward Sword and kept things varied with music from across the series. I liked how you kept the motif of music from different towns; it seemed to fit Skyloft perfectly to me. And Ballad of the Windfish... it's popular, it's important, it fits like a charm, it adds some variety. Perfect choice. However, one thing kind of baffled me: in a series with dozens of cult classic music tracks, your picks seemed to be some of the less popular ones. Still, very impressed and surprised in a good way with your roster.

Notes: A solid selection of SS music topped with the Main Theme and famous side songs like Kakariko Village? Yes please! Ordon Village was another nice touch; it actually has a cult remixing following and is gaining in popularity. I have one main qualm, however: the music selection as whole is rather sleepy and not really suited to combat. Ordon Village and Kakariko Village were a soothing one-two punch to you fit score.

Fit: 10
Overall: 33
Notes: Song of the Hero was a nice addition that fits perfectly and it's certainly important to SS; the Koloktos Battle is pretty popular, very fitting, but not so important. I also liked that you added the fan-favorite TP Theme, but I was a bit dismayed that it was one of only two songs that didn't originate in SS. I was also dismayed to see the Bazaar Theme; I personally love it and think it fits well, but it isn't very popular or important. It may have been better to switch it out for another, more classical Zelda tune.

Notes: The Nintendoland Music. WHY? The Zelda series has more music to draw from than any other, so why turn to a remixed song from a side-game? It's a great song, but it's not exactly popular or important. I'd say the same applies to the Crossbow Training theme, too. I have read your explanation and I understand that you wish to include a Wii-U Zelda song, but such just isn't necessary when you have such a historic and rich library of music to draw from. Fortunately, you had several redeeming factors. The Main Theme, Temple, and the Ocarina Suite saved your importance and popularity; Groose's Theme saved your fit. I liked that you had the guts to experiment, but I feel like things just didn't work out that way this time.

Overall: 36
Notes: I can understand your sentiment about Takamaru's Ninja Castle; I don't entirely agree, but it is a fairly popular song in its own right. City in the Sky is a perfect, ironic fit and it's eeriness boosts your variety through the roof. You did manage to hit on a lot of popular songs, but you left a good deal of important ones out. Oh, and I have to give you props for Ghirahim Battle and Groose's Theme... both are pretty popular and heavily remixed within SS, giving them more importance than people think.

Overall: 37
Notes: I'm just going to pretend Bazaar isn't on your list, as requested. You hit the sweet spot for balancing music from different games, in my opinion. All of these songs (bar perhaps only Castle Town, even after the 54 second mark) fit Skyloft in Smash perfectly. You also worked in the extremely popular Temple and the classical Main Theme, but I can't help but think that you could have included just one more song that's important to SS or the series as a whole; you're missing three of the most heavily remixed, recurring SS themes (Groose, Ghirahim, and the Sky) and only have one song that appears in multiple games.

LegendofRob1
Importance: 9
Popularity: 8
Variety: 10
Fit: 7
Overall: 34
Notes: Zelda has so many memorable tunes that I feel like a Golden Sun song is just kind of tacked-on; it just doesn't fit. Hyrule Town is another pick that struck me as a bit unusual; it's one of the less known and less popular town music pieces. Fortunately, your list is pretty brilliant otherwise: Hyrule Field does wonders for your popularity and the two extra Skyward Sword themes are both important to the game---the medleys you chose highlight that fact. A promising list, but I feel it could have been so much more.

Starphoenix
Importance: 8
Popularity: 6
Variety: 7
Fit: 10
Overall: 31
Notes: I think you went a bit heavy on the Skyward Sword songs; Zelda has such a rich backlog of music that you largely ignored. If you had used some of it, it would really have helped your variety. I was also a bit surprised: you chose six SS songs, but left out the fan-favorite song that goes with everything. I was interested to see the Levias battle; it's not really popular or important, but it adds some variety and fits like a charm. In all, your music was important to SS, but not to the series as a whole; although it fits perfectly, it sacrifices popularity and variety.

Brawler610
Importance: 9
Popularity: 10
Variety: 8
Fit: 10
Overall: 37
Notes: One thing gets on my nerves about your list. You chose Saria's Song as a standalone piece in addition to having it in a medley. Doesn't do wonders for your variety. Still, you have a good deal of the major Zelda hitters and are one of the few to choose the important, highly popular Saria's Song in the first place. As I've discussed before, I feel that the Ballad of the Windfish is perfect in all areas for this stage. I can't talk about your list without mentioning Faron Woods; it works like a charm and caught me off guard.

Falkoopa
Importance: 10

Notes: City in the Sky. Ah, how ironically fitting and unique. Your list hits all of the main judging categories: the three SS songs are all important to the game; Clocktown and Hyrule Field are popular and add variety; Palace of the Wind fits. One complaint: neither Palace of the Winds nor City in the Sky is very popular. Changing one of them up for a more popular tune may have won you this round in my book.

PixelPasta
Importance: 8
Popularity: 8
Variety: 7
Fit: 9
Overall: 32
Notes: My biggest complaint with your list is that it is entirely based off of the N64 and Wii Zelda entries. Nothing from the likes of the pre-N64 era or the GCN era. Additionally, none of your themes are recurring throughout the Zelda series. I just don't see any chemistry throughout your tracklist as a whole. Fortunately, I can see that each of your tracks is individually great and fitting. Fi's Theme was something I expected to see from more contestants, and I'm completely behind that choice. Lon Lon Ranch caught me by surprise... I don't think it's all that fitting, but it is one of the more popular Zelda themes. The number of Skyward Sword songs on hand was great for fit, but not for variety. Overall, I feel like you should have considered the Zelda series as a whole when making selections, but you've managed to do well in just about every area.

KingofPhantoms
Importance: 10

Notes: The first thing I noticed when I scanned your list was Stone Tower Temple. Woah. Deep stuff. It's great for your popularity and variety, but I can't help but feel that it's the exact OPPOSITE feel of the town of Skyloft. So creepy, you know? Puppet Zelda also has that creepy feel, but it really works well in a battle scenario like Smash; it is also both popular and important. I'm a bit disappointed that you focused so heavily on Skyward Sword, but you got the majority of the heavy hitters from it.

Importance: 9

Notes: Cloud Tops and Palace of the Winds certainly fit Skyloft, but neither song is very important or even popular. Your importance was salvaged by a plethora of songs important to SS and the series as a whole, but I feel that you left most of the series behind. Kakariko Village (which is just a bit too sleepy for a Smash stage) was pretty much your only "cult classic" Zelda song on the list; I just couldn't help dock some popularity. You had an admirable attempt, but I just can't help but feel like you fell a bit short this time. [/collapse]

Good choices and good variety, with songs from several titles old and new. Having played all games where the songs are from, I can recognize them from important parts of the games, being tunes associated with the beginning of the games or strongly tied to the plot. You have calmer sounding songs (Skyloft, Ballad of the Wing Fish) to fully orchestrated epic-sounding songs, contributing to the variety as well and most importantly, they all fit the stage.
The only negative comment I can make is the lack of the Main Theme of the franchise, due to this being the stage from a game that celebrates the 25 years of The Legend of Zelda, hence why I didn't give a 10 in the Importance category. Besides that, this is a very well made list.

Not bad at all. It has iconic songs from the franchise, including Kokiri Forest, the Zelda Main Theme and Kakariko Village as well as variety regarding the origin of the songs.
The Ordon Village song fits the stage well, but not so much for the game's atmosphere and it's not as memorable as the other songs, in my opinion.
All in all, it's a good list without a doubt.

This list has many good songs and they all fit the stage. All of them are memorable and important songs, however, it has too many songs from the same game which means less points of the variety category.

Jumpman84
Songs chosen:
Ballad of the Goddess
Main Theme (The Legend of Zelda)
Skyloft
Battle Quest Time Attack (Nintendo Land)

Fit: 10/10
Total: 34/40

I must admit this list has some oddball choices, but the truth is that there's a lot of variety in this list and the songs all fit the stage and the gameplay. I can't say that the Nintendo Land song is that important for the franchise overall, but it actually fits the frantic gameplay of Smash Bros., so it's kind of a double edged knife.

Songs chosen:
Ballad of the Goddess
Groose's Theme

City in the Sky from Twilight Princess is a very interesting choice for this stage, given that both places are similar in concept and I can tell that it fits the stage well.
Your list is lacking in importance. Where is the Zelda Main Theme or the Skyloft theme? It is a little strange that the original song for this area is absent from the listing.

God's Robert Cousin

Not bad! This list has got it all: fitting and iconic songs spanning the Zelda series as a whole. All songs either fit the atmosphere of the stage or of the gameplay and you included the two most prominent Zelda themes in Smash (Main Theme and Temple songs) as well.

legendofrob1
Songs chosen:
Ballad of the Goddess
Groose's Theme Medley
Ghirahim's Theme / Ghirahim Battle Theme

You have plenty of good songs without a doubt. The songs fit well with the stage and you have a lot of variety too. The Golden Sun song stands out and would fit the stage very nicely, however, it also means it's taking a slot where a more important Zelda song could have been. The lack of Zelda Main Theme and the Skyloft theme lowers your importance scoring.

Starphoenix

This list has mainly one problem: too many songs from Skyward Sword. The Skyward Sword soundtrack is indeed excellent, but one of the ideas behind multiple songs per stage is having songs from different titles of the franchise, which this list lacks.
On the positive side, the songs fit the stage very well and are all important songs from the respective games.

Total: 34/40

I can say most of the songs are important to the series and they all fit the stage. The Faron Woods theme is what probably stands out from this list, which isn't a bad thing.

FalKoopa
Songs chosen:
Ballad of the Goddess
Skyloft
The Sky
City in the Sky
Palace of the Winds (Minish Cap)
Clock Town
Hyrule Field Theme (Ocarina of Time)
Main Theme (The Legend of Zelda) -Brawl Version-

Importance: 8/10
Popularity: 8/10
Variety: 9/10
Fit: 10/10
Total: 35/40

Another of my favorite listings for this stage. I like the variety of songs here, not only regarding different source games, but also of musical styles. There are iconic songs too and I can say the songs all fit the stage well. The song that stands out here is the Palace of Winds from Minish Cap, which is the only song from a game I haven't played.

PixelPasta
Songs chosen:
Ballad of the Goddess
Skyloft
The Sky
Groose's Theme
Levias Battle
Fi's Theme
Clock Town
Lon Lon Ranch (Ocarina of Time)
Hyrule Field Theme (Ocarina of Time)

Importance: 8/10
Popularity: 8/10
Variety: 6/10
Fit: 10/10
Total: 33/40

This list could be a little better if it included songs from other games of the series: it has too many songs from the same game.
The songs fit the stage and are iconic, but a little more variety among source games wouldn't have been bad.

KingofPhantoms47
Songs chosen:
Ballad of the Goddess
Skyloft
The Sky
Ghirahim Battle Theme
Levias Battle
Puppet Zelda Battle (Twilight Princess)
Stone Tower Temple

Importance: 8/10
Popularity: 8/10
Variety: 6/10
Fit: 8/10
Total: 30/40

The song that really stands out is the Stone Tower Temple and I must admit it is an interesting choice, but I don't think that it fits the stage very well. Another problem of this list is the over abundance of Skyward Sword songs. Another problem is the lack of the Main Theme of the series, which I consider important, given this is the stage from a game that celebrates the anniversary of the series.

Kikwi-Kiwi
Songs chosen:
Ballad of the Goddess
Skyloft
The Sky
Main Theme (The Legend of Zelda)
Kakariko Village
Palace of the Winds (Minish Cap)
Cloud Tops (Minish Cap)

Importance: 8/10
Popularity: 8/10
Variety: 8/10
Fit: 9/10
Total: 33/40

Both Minish Cap songs are good fits for the stage, as is the Kakariko Village song. The only fault here would be the lack of more iconic songs from the series, but other than that it's not a bad list. [/collapse]

Good list! Great variety that pays tribute to the entire series. As well, each song fits well for both Smash and the Skyloft stage. I really enjoyed hearing the Clock Town theme!! I was a bit hesitant to hear the WW music because I personally think we would get WW tracks for the ST stage on the 3DS. However, I'm still open to the track.

A overall good list that has good tracks but lacks a sense of .... Uniqueness. Each track is good but it doesn't offer much in the way diverse songs to play in. However, Clock Town was a great addition. I didn't really like Ordon Village and didn't really sell me the idea for it to be in the stage.

A unique and diverse selection that features some odd ball choices. However, I feel more than half of these songs wouldn't really fit well as background music. Props to the Link's archery training and Nintendo Land. However, I felt those hurt your scores concerning importance and popularity.

While a good list, it suffers from ask of importance. They were great picks but lacks the important tracks. I do like City in the Sky, Ghirahim Battle, and Clock Town. I felt the Takamaru Nintendo Land was a bit odd and not needed.

A great list here! Interesting, important choices that reflect the Zelda series yet also fits in with Smash. I do question the Windfall and Bazar theme and if they fit well into stage but were interesting choices. I feel you learned a lot from the past round.

Good songs that span through the series but I feel they don't necessarily fit well into Smash. I enjoyed seeing the Ghirahim theme was interesting but unsure about the Hyrule Town and Outset Island tracks. They lack in importance IMO. The Golden Sun track fits nicely but I feel better LoZ tracks could take its spot.

Stone Tower Temple was the only thing that stuck out about the list. I really enjoyed seeing it but it was eclipsed by the large amount of Skyward Sword tracks. While they do fit the stage, it would have been great if there were other tracks from the previous games.

I felt the Minish Caps songs felt a little out of place due to them fitting better with ST stage. However, I think they do fit well for the Skyloft stage. Overall, a great list with a good mix of variety and importance. [/collapse]

The winner of this round is...

God Robert's Cousin!

Congratulations! I will put your list in the hall of honor.

One more thing I have to add. Due to unfortunate events, this is the last time Venus will judge for this contest. Venus, we wish you the best of luck and if you ever want to come back, we'll welcome you back with open arms. Hope you still drop by here every once in a while. Because of this, we had to find a replacement. Our new judge is none other than TumblrFamous! Make him feel welcome! As always, you'll have about a day to mull over results. See ya next round!

Yeeeeeeeeee! It's a good feel to win!

I gotta say though, this round was much better overall than Battlefield. A lot of good entries with memorable songs and diverse themes. Honestly, almost anyone else winning would have been more than okay this time around. Great job to the rest of you! Hopefully the next round is just as good.

Don't you dare let me catch you guys not using a song as classic as Hyrule Temple next time, though. Seriously, you can't have Smash Bros. without that stuff.

Three things.

First off, congratulations to God Robert's Cousin!

Second, I wish you the best of luck, Venus. I hope you'll still at least be able to visit the boards every now and then.

Third and finally, congratulations to TumblrFamous for becoming the new judge!

Congrats to God Robert's Cousin for winning!
Good luck to Venus!
And congrats to TumblrFamous for being the next judge!

I knew that I probably wasn't going to win, but I still had a lot of fun making this list and I am glad that I did a good job impressing the judges! My favorite on that list that isn't from Skyward Sword had to be Ballad of the Wind Fish; it's so sad... yet so perfect.

Anyways, I can't wait for the next contest!

Congrats GRC

Guess I should have probably gone for some more famous songs. I did find the Cloud Tops theme very memorable but I guess Minish Cap itself isn't that much of a memorable Zelda game for the series as a whole. Ah well, better luck next time. Guess I'll look for some more famous tracks next time. :)

Congratulations, GRC. May you be blessed by the ballad of the goddess.

Honestly, I wasn't expecting to win this round. I only started playing Legend of Zelda in recent years, and only just finished Skyward Sword in the summer. I loved the game, (why do a lot of people hate it, I don't know), but it's soundtrack was the only one I could think back to. The only other Zelda games (outside of Toon Link's games) I've played was OoT 3D and currently playing Twilight Princess.

Here's hoping the next round is a stage I can work with. (mariomariomariomariomario) or maybe something like (pikminpikminpikminpikminpikmin),

Zelda is one of those series. I've played pretty much every one of them (I'm looking at you, Oracle games!); I'm pretty opinionated about the music. And good luck playing TP.

I wouldn't be too surprised if you got your wish for the upcoming round. :smirk:

note to self: trust my gut next time.

(meaning every single thing I thought was a tiny bit off got called apon. making sure everything's perfect next time.)
It was mainly the Golden Sun track that got me. I'm a highly biased and obnoxious Zelda nerd, and it's my opinion that it has more than enough of its own music to consider before adding other stuff. I do like your penchant for creativity, though... keep it up and it will eventually payoff.

Congrats GRC

Cloud Tops is a decent song, and I would like to see it on pretty much any stage... but it just has too much competition, in my eyes. There are so many more important and popular songs out there.

But keep up the surprises... Groose likes them. The current scoring system may favor the iconic and recurring songs... but if you have a quirky and offbeat song that I love and it fits... I'm going to push up your variety and fit. And if I love it... it must be popular, too, right?... heh. You just have to keep experimenting. ;)

Yeeeeeeeeee! It's a good feel to win!

I agree. We really wanted to get Battlefield out of the way and work out the kinks with it before we moved onto a stage with more song variety. And as to Temple... I was playing Zelda II about a half hour before grading your entry... getting a certain song stuck in my head. I dunno... that's just one of things that can happen to anyone.

And when I hinted this earlier:

I'm not allowed to reveal just how highly you placed (that'd be telling), but I looked at what the other judges gave you. You did quite well this time.
I had already run some hasty calculations and it seemed like you were going to win. As I said... outright saying it would be... telling...

I really hope Arena Ferox is next. Got a list already set for that one :smirk:
I'd save that list if I were you. You'll probably need it for later.
Congrats to God Robert's Cousin for winning!
Good luck to Venus!

As I said, I felt Ballad of the Windfish was perfect. You tied our victor for second atop my personal judging list... and would have done better if you hadn't included the same song in both a single and a medley. Be a little bit more thorough and cautious and you'll have the next one.

TumblrFamous had inquired about being a judge, but we had already finalized things by then. So when Venus retired... I personally felt he had the rights to next in-line. This ties back to what I said earlier: it takes us a good deal of time to listen to everything you guys toss out and give quality feedback. That's why we're kind of lax about updating the day here.

Since my main problem was variety, I feel the need to ask what I'm supposed to be striving for in this contest series? I was under the assumption it was based on realism, hence the large portion of my tracks being from Skyward Sword. If it's simply based upon personal opinion of what fits the stage best, then my future entries will be different.

Well. Let me put it this way.

On the Bridge of Eldin, there were only a couple tracks from TP.

Same for almost all stages really.

Sakurai isn't going to just grab the music from just one game, (Unless that's all the series has). He tries to spead out the choices so we tried to reflect on that.

That make sense?

Although I agree that from a third to a half of the music will probably be from Skyward Sword... I find three-quarters like you had just a bit of an excess. After all, Bridge of Eldin only had four of nine songs from Twilight Princess and Pirate Ship only had three of eight from Wind Waker. So six of eight of the songs being from SS is a bit unlikely and doesn't help your variety. It did boost your fit, however: you probably had the most fitting music of any list out there.

I'll give you a bit of a breakdown for my Skyloft scoring policy. Keep in mind, this is just my basic judging guide for Skyloft here... other judges may have done theirs differently, and each stage I do will have different, but similar criteria:

Importance: List includes important themes to SS (Sky, Skyloft, Groose, Ghirahim, etc.) as well as songs important to Zelda and Zelda in Smash as a whole.

Popularity: SS's music isn't as beloved by the fans as older music, with "Groose's Theme" (it goes with everything!), "Fi," and "Koloktos" being notable exceptions. People would like to hear the classics: ocarina music, "Temple," "Ballad of the Windfish," "Dark World," etc.

Variety: Songs should not be remixes of each other and they should come from as many different games and eras as possible. Additionally, it's best if they all have a distinctive feel to them, with different tempos, instruments, and complexities.

Fit: Songs from SS boost fit; the more they have, the higher the fit. Older songs can also boost fit as long as they sound like they belong in Smash and work well with the background of Skyloft in mind (retro-note: people did this by having different town themes on their list; unexpected, but perfect).

As I said before, your music fit and was largely important to Skyward Sword. But you lacked one of the most popular tracks from that game and largely ignored that most popular Zelda music comes from the distant past.

If this helps clear thing up for you, I'm glad I was able to help. If not, please PM me and I'll try to elaborate. I'm sure you will resurge for our next round!

Much congrats to God Robert's Cousin for his victory this round. Might I also add that most everyone gave quite a quality showing? Skyloft was a much more interesting contest than Battlefield was. Additionally, kudos to TumblrFamous for scoring the judge position.

I'm glad I did as well as I did. I intend to participate in every round that I can, though it's likely that I'll skip out on the few stages whose franchises I am largely unfamiliar with.

Well, at least I had Variety! :troll:

I admit that my list was terrible, in retrospect. And now I'm in dead last with no hope of recovery. Guess I'll have to try for a comeback next round. Maybe...

But congrats on the win, GRC! Good luck, Venus. And welcome, Tumblr!

One thing I have to ask is what determines a song to be a heavy hitter. And why those three in particular. Am I missing something because I never played Skyward Sword?

On another note, which Zelda song was Time Attack remixed from? And why all the hate on Nintendo Land? It is teh awesomez! Seriously, though. It was a great game and it has a great soundtrack. Why all the hate?

Oh, shoot! I should have done a Zelda CD-I rep for this stage! Noooooooooooooooo!

Gotcha. Obviously my train of thought is a little different (e.g. more original music from source titles), but you all are the judges, so it's your job to lay the smack down. I respect that. Just wanted some clarification so I know how to better participate next time. Excited for the next update.

Don't personally play many Zelda games so I would hope a stage from another series is next instead of Spirit Tracks

Didn't participate in this round, but I'd love to see this get into Smash and I think Skyloft would be a great fit:

Didn't participate in this round, but I'd love to see this get into Smash and I think Skyloft would be a great fit:

Zelda 2: Overworld

Yup. We're spreading out games from the same series for precisely this reason. I do think everyone should be able to participate in this upcoming round though...

I know nothing about fire emblem, but I'll damn try to get a good soundtrack for it anyways.
I know nothing about fire emblem, but I'll damn try to judge a good soundtrack for it anyways.

And one of the reasons it won't be for awhile is that I'm currently researching the series' music a bit more.

The last three songs on your list (Ocarina, Temple, Groose) were all heavy hitters, but you had two pretty obscure tracks on there, too.

I've wanted to try Nintendoland for a while now; seems fun. It's soundtrack is also good... but...

On another note, which Zelda song was Time Attack remixed from?
I listened to this song on fifteen minutes of replay to answer this very question. And... I can't figure out what it is. It's so heavily remixed (or perhaps unique) that it's pretty much unrecognizable. If you hadn't played Nintendoland, I doubt you'd associate this song with Zelda at all (eh...it does have a Wind Waker vibe to it, I guess). That's why I had to dock in so many categories for it.

Now if you had chosen a more recognizable remixed Nintendoland Zelda track... now that would have been OK. Pretty much every Battle Quest theme other than the one you chose is instantly recognizable. I just can't place my finger on your choice, and that was the main problem.

As you may notice if you read all of my scores, I had you solely atop my list with 38 points. I did think yours was ever so sightly better than GRC's... but all of my fellows disagreed.

As for the next stage... I doubt you'll have any problems with it. But skipping those you don't know is probably advisable.

Well aren't you impatient.

I have college you know. I'm a contributing member of society. I do things with my life.

10 points from RavenClaw GRC.

In all seriousness, I try the best I can. I have a busy life. Give a man a break. XD
