So many tournaments lately. It's awesome considering the slow start to this year.

Won't be able to make this one though, gotta take the wifey to a broadway play type thingy.
tournaments without jei don't really count as tournaments imo

I saw this one dude at uni who had like the same hat as Jei and the same basketball singlet thing and the same beard and I thought it was Jei and then it wasn't Jei.

Shoutouts to Jason for winning the only thing that mattered; hype Ganondorf dittos.
For eight hundred years I have trained Ganondorfs. A Ganondorf must have the deepest commitment, the most serious mind. But you billy, a long time I have watched. Every stock you have looked away... to the future, to the neutral game. Never your mind on where the next choke slam was. Hmm? What he was doing. Hmph. Spacing. Heh. Reads. Heh. A Ganon craves not these things. You are recklessssssssssssssssss.

Thanks for games d00d, sucks we had no recording for them.

Shouts to Dave and Phil for TO duties, my first CW event, was super impressed with how fast/organised everything felt.

Apologies to the Falcon I knocked into losers with that BS 0-25% + death combo, that was salty as hell and should not have worked.

TY to Jei for demonstrating PM Yoshi, outplayed me in every scenario G2, looking forward to another chance at that matchup.

This is BS dude, need to try get out of work somehow... what time frame is this running?
if you wanna try do your work early, you could come from 5pm onwards for JUST melee

otherwise PM usually starts at 2pm, melee teams (free entry) at 12.

the dekar conspiracy, events on Sunday only so he can take the winnings. Except redact has been in the lab.
Totally a Redact + Dekar conspiracy lol

quote religious reasons? smash pretty much is a religion.

Our Fox in heaven,
hallowed be your up-smash.
Your reads come,
your tech be done,
on battlefield, as it is on FD.
Give us this day our daily shine,
and forgive us our SDs,
as we also have forgiven our scrubs.
And lead us not into chaingrabs,
but deliver us from peach.

PM bracket got lost I believe, Melee bracket was small as we did the pools on sheets and the Brawl bracket was on sheets too.

I think the post from splice is gonna be the most detail you will get

I'm always a bit late for shoutouts, well here goes..

Jei: Our teamwork + coordination isn't on point that day I admit, hopefully we do better next time we team. Btw do you need a partner for P:M at SSV? If not I'll team up with my very casual training partner who is the equivalent of the 'Yoshi Borp', or Lvl 9 CPU.
Tak and Splice: Lol at Falcon Punch discussion, but I think most hitboxes linger a bit when connected, but yeah you guys outclass us badly so gg.

Dekar and Meredyse: We had a chance to get in the lead in PS2 but Jei hit me and made me get edge-guarded lol, but Dekar you're so good stahp it! Meredyse is getting better, you better win your MM against SurPr15e!

The two guys that beat me in P:M: First time receiving the bottom feeder 2 and out treatment, I have never experienced it and now that I have I must say it feels like s***. You guys abused my shortcomings and repeated tendencies/mistakes and without mercy. Congrats.

Rant 1: read at own risk
I felt very lost and so I took a very long walk/lunch-break afterwards to try collect myself; I couldn't believe I played so bad especially after my friendlies with Forte. I knew I couldn't come in the Melee tourney feeling terribly unhappy and expect to win any sets. I did come back in time for a few friendlies but I did not expect round robin pools! I thought well I just need to get at least 2nd in my pool (but try my best for 1st ofc) so I'd get in the melee bracket.

Atticus: Well we had a rather intense first game, kinda close. I didn't expect an upset win over you but I wanted to at least give you some sort of a challenge, seeing you win 2-0 against everyone else in our pools made it seemingly impossible to win. I hope we play again it was great.

Fox/Falco user who actually mains Pikachu: Sorry I forgot your alias/name but I remember our tourney set felt a little odd, but our friendlies felt more real. I don't know what it is but my 6th sense is telling me you should main your favourite character Pikachu. Don't take my advice too wholeheartedly because I'm mid-low tier biased, though I think the best way to determine your main is to keep playing/testing every character and seeing which character gets more development/enjoyment/skill. It will take a lot of time, but wow badly do you want to win? Would you sacrifice your favourite char for a high tier? Everyone has a different path, but what is yours?

Sadistic: You looked kinda bummed out after losing to me. I hope you're not salty or anything, hope to see you again. Don't give in!

DD_: Our set was so close! I have no idea how to play against Jiggs, or why people get so salty vsing one. I feels very good to land a strong hit on Jiggs because she's very lightweight. I fully understand your frustration after the last game, I was becoming very predictable because I was also nervous as hell (and wanted that 2nd place so badly at the time), but you messed up a bit and your shield became so small your hurt-box got exposed which costed you the game. I don't re-act to rest fast enough so my DI was completely random, Falcon's fallspeed/weight make him survive a hell lot better than other characters.

Rant 2: read at own risk
So after my somewhat of a comeback placing of 2nd in my pools, I couldn't wait to announce this to the TO, but somebody said only 1st place matters. I was stunned, I went up to the TO (Dekar) to ask why doesn't 2nd place get to play in the bracket. Well he explained everything to me, time, people leaving early, giving a chance for newcomers to play more instead of going 0-2 and out. So not only did I just experience the 0-2 treatment earlier in P:M, I was also given a special surprise reward for getting 2nd in pools, a "Sorry mate!".

Despite this I had to realised that I have done what I originally intended to do, get 2nd, to redeem myself after that 0-2 treatment in P:M. I couldn't be mad after all that, so I continued on with my day...

That Doc main: Sorry I accidentally unplug the Wii. It was so loose that it literally unplugged itself after I nudged the powerboard a tiny bit. I felt like I did a skeletom (from the last CW lol) Also good friendly matches too, I think I remember you, but idk your alias so oops.

Forte: Glad to see you again buddy, thanks again for those friendlies. Were you sandbagging our matches? Actually don't tell me :D

Hyes: Good times chatting with you/friendlies, I'll check out PC Cars when I can lol.

Dekar: Thanks for letting me experience that ' you get 2nd rank in pools you get nuthin' treatment. I had no idea what it would feel like, btw this isn't sarcastic in anyway.

Final Rant
I was watching loser/grand finals, I heard some discussion going on with Falcon Punch. I wanted to chime in about it because I nerd and use Falcon Punch all the freaking time, but then I saw Tom attempting the Tapion Punch and failing (because % of Dekar was too high). You guys made him do that, then say it doesn't work because Illuminati bs, but I swear it's the redact/dekar GF conspiracy!

I think we could have pushed a top 2 get out of pools for melee, but then we would run up to 10pm on a sunday which is kinda late. There's no perfect bracket system and you experienced the shortfall of each one here 1AM.

So here's the real question now. What do you prefer? 0-2 and out or barely missing out on making it out of pools? You have to pick what you think is the lesser of 2 evils

doubt we'll run pools at a monthly again anytime soon. doesn't reward small improvements like a bracket does.

I like pools, it means I get to play against really tough opponents in a trial by fire. I see what you mean about it not rewarding small improvements but at the same time playing more matches with tournament pressure is good too. Clutch is almost as important as technical skill.

Personally, I'd be keen to try and implement a Swiss System tournament at some point, but it'd probably be a nightmare due to the increased number of matchups.

Swiss can be good, but again you're looking at seeding a top 4-8 for a small bracket with a similar number of matches but more logistics. It could work at a melee ONLY event without other stuff going on or with a real early start.

Yeah, you're right. Go Swiss for X matches (maybe 6-10 per person) and then seed a bracket from there?

More research required.

As I said to Dekar, if we're afraid of time being against our side, make rank 2 in pools go into loser brackets (something similar to MLG?). If I didn't take pride of my 2nd rank in pools, I'd say barely making it out of pools by actually placing second is more painful.

Edit: Also the last minute entrants make byes a little biased, it says I'm 25th but I'm sure others got 25th by winning at least one set. Putting me at equal placing as them doesn't make sense, but we should all know by now that placing doesn't actually mean performance.

what a great compromise, 2nd in each pool could have gone into losers. why didn't I or any other TO think of this? 1am for TO consultant

oh while i remember, it's even easier to blame tak and his "i'm saving all my sets for last" tactics for the small melee bracket #neva4get
blame blame blame
