Speaking of fighting games, I have a question for everyone.

What type of character do you prefer? I'm talking about the shoto, zoner, grappler, etc. that sort of thing.

I like using shoto's and rushdown characters. Though sometimes I like zoners too. Which is why I plan on using Megaman in Smash 4. It'd be the first time I'd use a zoner/keep-away for a main.

Depends. I usually prefer a pseudo-zoner or full on zoner, but it can radically change from game to game.

In response to @ FlareHabanero , I normally play the in-your-face berserker-type character, specializing in grabs or hard, fast hits. I play Armor King in Tekken, Sagat in Street Fighter, and Kabal in Mortal Kombat. In the occasionality I play Soul Calibur, I use Astaroth.

Just remember the fundamental factor of any zoning specialist, which is respecting your opponents space. Getting in should only be done when an opportunity arrives, rushdown isn't a priority since those characters tend to have poor options on that regard.

He is just mirroring what people said way back when when Smash 64 came out. Because that was what Captain Falcon was really thought as. Actually, Smash made the Captain more of a character than in those early F-Zero games. Just as Marth was "Fire Emblem Guy" in melee.

What type of character? Well, one that's handsome of course! He has to be good-looking!

In all seriousness, it really depends. I suppose I gravitate more towards rushdown (or generally aggressive) characters (though I prefer if they have at least one projectile). In Project M (I know it's harder to label archetypes for Smash fighters. But just bear with me, I don't play a lot of fighting games), I love playing Roy but also Wolf since he has a projectile. I also like Toon Link over Link, because I prefer TL's speed and how I'm more aggressive with him.

For some reason, I also like playing glass cannons in fighting games. I would really like to see some more grapplers in Smash though -- someone that fits the archetype to a T. I always thought the ICs could be tweaked to fit such role, but I'm wondering if there's any newcomers that could fit.
