I actually wanted to bring that discussion up. Was Toon Sheik a codename for Tetra? I know Emblem was Roy's name in Melee, but it wouldn't shock me if Sakurai just invented Toon Sheik and put her in the game.

Also, Dixie was confirmed to originally be a tag team by Sakurai right?

Pikachu and Jigglypuff were chosen for Smash 64 because at the time they were the most popular in the anime, IIRC.

Sure, Jigglypuff also may have had an easier time being implemented due to sharing certain aspects with Kirby, but their popularity was the main reason to choose a Pokemon character before Pikachu was the definitive Pokemon mascot.

I guarantee that if Ash had started with a Clefairy like he was originally going to, Smash 64 would've had Clefairy and Jigglypuff.

All I gotta say is both are quite legitimately possible and leave it at that. We'll possibly never know. There's a supposed "rumor" that Tetra was on the list of characters he thought about, but that's not legitimate if it was more than a rumor, so... and even then, it still questions why he would call it Toon Sheik instead. Unless at one time Tetra was going to be a Toon Sheik during Wind Waker's development...

His wording is that "they could switch with a button", but yes. Note that this means they were probably like Zelda/Sheik specifically in design. With Dixie possibly being in the background at first, or faded out, if you will. Maybe she's in For as a partner, but you have to press a button, then a barrel shows up that she jumps out of and Diddy disappears? Sakurai didn't confirm his Down B and Side B at all... I don't think he even said what move his Peanut Popgun was when shown. Verrrrrry awkward.

I would think that Toon Sheik could have been a code name for Tetra. But an actual Toon Sheik could have been a real thing if they really felt the need to buff out the roster and get done quickly.

Unfortunately, that's not a very good reason. Since Sheik is specific to Adult Zelda. I found the only concept art for Tetra. She has a yellow jumpsuit-like costume, but that's it in it.

We'll never know what Sakurai intended, but I will say that any assumptions should be cut out. The fact he outright makes his own characters, and lets them be playable is proof enough he could have intended a Toon Sheik. Could have being the key term. I have a hard time believing he'd go with that codename when he could've just said Tetra instead. -_- What I believe is the most likely is that, he planned for Toon Sheik, but was going to change it to Tetra since it's more convenient. It also would make a lot of sense, anyway. Since that's what happened with Jigglypuff and Mewtwo in SSB64. He planned for Mewtwo, but added Jigglypuff because she was more convenient. For the record, popularity was another likely key factor, since Mewtwo was not in the same popularity power, and SSB64 was going to be Japan only at first.

Tetra can attack with a Cannon, a Grappling Hook, a Deku Leaf like parachute out of a hankercheif, Catapult, Barrel, etc.

Toon Zelda doesn't have to be unique anymore that Toon Link has to be unique. In fact she's specifically meant to share moves with here adult counterpart just like Link.

Him having that codename doesn't mean ultimately much. Maybe his name wasn't finalized when the file was made? That's kind of what I'm getting at; a severe lack of information. What was the exact file name, btw?

And I don't believe Tetra is anything like Sheik outside of "they're both action characters". Tetra didn't know she was Zelda, and never attempted to hide anything. I actually find them very non-similar beyond the action character part and being an alter-ego to Zelda. What people forget is the whole "reason they're that character" part, and that argument falls apart pretty quickly after that.

I more so meant it was grasping at straws because everyone has a habit of latching onto whatever flavor of the month comes up with no backing it up, like it's obliged instead of justified.

Either way, we'll never know Toon Sheik's exact indications, and I still think there's a very good chance Sakurai wanted a clone.

Eeyup. I just gotta work on the image properly. But I don't mind going with proper file names. Remember, Emblem is respectfully vague. It's odd it became that. A beta name is legitimately possible just by the name alone. Toon Sheik is harder to swallow since it's a blatant and specific name. So... why shouldn't I believe he might've add an OC clone? He added Toon Link, after all.

Same. Why would he not make a slight comment on it?

One reason is that he didn't realize people actually, you know, checked the data? Or maybe nobody asked him. It'd be great if they did that. Because hey, if he meant Tetra(and told us that was the case), fair enough. I already acknowledge it's possible, but I don't know why people can't accept that maybe he wanted to make a Sheik clone. For that matter, it's possible that Tetra was literally going to play just like Sheik and that's why he labeled it "Toon_Sheik". That's just how hard it is to tell.

But it's not like we'll know the truth. Ever or yet.
