I think there was never an order ultimately. Everybody from the past games(exception Dr. Mario, Roy, and Mewtwo) were all equal priority. But eh.


Yeah, still not buying it. Severe lack of proof, just speculation. I find this entirely unprovable. Until Sakurai actually says it, I'm not buying it. I do buy those 3 were not meant to be important to the SSE. Also, Sakurai outright saying "The roster was already finished" just furthers goes with my point. He scrapped the Forbidden 7 due to time constraints(except Dixie which was due to being unable to code properly) and that was it.

In addition, that's not proof, just purely speculation, as noted before. I don't find the order of coding to really make hack here. That's just the order they went with. By that logic, he indefinitely was never going to insert Tetra in the game instead of Toon Sheik, who's in the data. And keep in mind I believe he meant Toon Sheik, but I at least admit that he could've changed his mind. You're putting a bit too much into this; It's possible, but not confirmable.

To be put it simply, it's fine if you believe that, but there's no way to confirm that as true right now. That's what I'm getting at.

The characters were ordered by Smash title (64 first, then Melee, then Brawl) and then by franchise (Mario, then DK, then Zelda). Jigglypuff should have been under Pikachu, yet she was the only of the original 12 characters who was not listed in the first 12 slots. Toon Link and Wolf weren't listed in the given order either, also appearing at the very end of the file.

Why then did all other 35 characters follow the ordering yet those 3 did not?

I gotta call bull on that one. If Jigglypuff was only finished due to extra time, why did Jigglypuff apparently have more priority than Mewtwo, who was nearly complete?

You don't buy Jiggs was low priority because she was higher priority than Mewtwo? That makes no sense. Jiggs was low priority, Mewtwo was even lower.

Also from what I understand, although I might be wrong on this. Only sound files were found for Mewtwo. Things such as the announcer saying: "Mewtwo" or "Mewtwo wins" and special sound effects such as his neutral air and neutral special sounds. That in no way is "almost complete".

I've recently dug up a character thread I made a long time ago (one that wasn't locked because I have the worst luck with characters). And decided to edit it a bit. As it looks depressingly mediocre.

No. All I see is they weren't included for the SSE and we don't know a single reason why.

And no, I cannot see how Jigglypuff would add to it. She sings. She gets mad. Pikachu was a generator. Link and Yoshi are both green, and both are heroic and would help others. Marth and Ike are so easy to see as guys who defend their castle. Why on earth would she team up with Toon Link? Toon Link doesn't use music, besides a taunt. What would Wolf add? They had an antagonist for Fox and Falco in there already with Giant Diddy Kong and Rayquaza. Wario already was basically a bounty hunter for hire.

What I'm saying is they weren't automatically low priority. They could've been finished later, but that's not a matter of priority of who should be done, but a priority of who to finish first. They aren't the same thing, of course.

Look, I'm going to say it right now and for the last time; There is zero proof that Jigglypuff was a low priority to add to the game. There is only proof she was not important for the sole purpose of the SSE. And that's it. Nothing about the file order is going to convince me. You want to convince me? Give me a statement where Sakurai actually said Jigglypuff was low priority to include in the game. Till then, please drop it. I am not afraid to use the Ignore List and I won't accept theories as proof. I don't find it plausible she was every low priority to include in the game. He actually said the roster was finished before. That tells me she was definitely going to be in the game, and that he was going to originally put the other in too. Then Sonic came along and he realized some had to be cut. So he cut Mewtwo(64 Veteran and new characters were clearly more important), Roy(clone, was heavily worked on), Dixie(didn't work out, not enough time to iron it out, as he said), Toon Zelda/Toon Sheik(one clone, another who we don't know exactly who it was), whatever Pra_Mai was(possibly Plusle & Minun), and Dr. Mario(clone, can't be a costume due to being unique and the outright fact that he was a clone because of that reason. It is of course possible Sakurai might've made him a costume, but I find that unlikely due to "Mario can't do stuff Dr. Mario does" as he implies in his Japanese Melee Website Dr. Mario page).
