For some reason I find it easier to hit offstage when playing Smash 3ds. Idk - maybe the smaller screen makes it easier to follow where the opponent is? If that's true, it should also be easier for me if I use the gamepad as a screen in Smash Wii U.

Has anyone else found similar with their own gameplay?

While on the subject of Ness, I only have one thing to say. I'm not sure if anyone's brought this up yet, but if he uses PK Flash, counter that thing!
I've had this happen to me while playing as Ness.... I think this might have actually happened while I was playing @ erico9001 erico9001 , in fact!

Wouldn't be surprising - I've been doing that to Ness players for a while now =P. I first discovered it in a for glory team battle on Smash 3ds. At the way start of the match the Ness player did his Neutral B and I thought I would see how much damage a counter of that would do. I went up and countered it, and to my surprise I Ohko'd both him and his Greninja partner. It was pretty terrific, and I'm pretty sure my teammate wasn't complaining.

I seem to have an ongoing heated argument debate with a friend over whether Shulk is a super-cheap character or not. He's really good at Smash but I can beat him as Shulk, so from that he instantly makes the conclusion that Shulk is the cheapest character in the game. I'm not whining; it's pretty interesting to discuss the mechanics of a character I'm passionate about.

Your thoughts? (Though I suppose this is like asking on the Project M forums if people like Project M.... :p)

He's nowhere near being the cheapest character in the game. He's got some good options and is great character because of how variable his playstyle can be, but there's nothing "automatic" about Shulk. Your friend just needs to measure his approach and spacing more and be more careful is all. Once you get up close and personal with Shulk he becomes slightly helpless because his attacks aren't fast at all.

Edit: Also, is anyone up for a game or two? Or for some Mario Kart 8?

I've died a lot of times thanks to backslash. One time I wasn't thinking and I backslashed of the stage and died. The rest of the times I attempt to recover using airslash, but I accidentally do backslash. IDK if this is a controller problem, I intend to do airslash. I use the gamepad for now, I have to get some batteries for my wii remote so I can go back to classic controller.

I remember your post from like 2 months ago about people thinking Shulk's cheap. They are still going on about that?? Idk, I think these people could use a little more humility.

Maybe bring them to this thread where it is agreed on that Shulk either has one of the highest, or the highest learning curve.
http://smashboards.com/threads/character-with-highest-skill-cap.380037/page-2#post-18088561

You could direct them to the character competitive impressions thread where tiers are often posted. Find a few - they will be there (people are always posting them when it's not really helping the discussion much). Note how Shulk's usually mid or low tier. Then show them who's always at the top: Diddy Kong.
http://smashboards.com/threads/character-competitive-impressions.367669/page-195

To finish this recipe, you could show them Trela, considered one of the best Shulks (often the best), losing to Zinoto's Diddy Kong.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8_X6yivJlM

Are you confident in beating them with any other Smash 4 character? If you could, that would probably show them. Maybe you could have them try Shulk themselves and try to beat like, your worst character or something. Perhaps you could show them a replay of you losing while playing as Shulk?

I really want this to get worked out, because honestly it's just not right. People are usually impressed by good Shulk players.

Thanks for that, I will certainly be using those resources. I'm pretty good with Lucina and Sheik too, though they seem to be able to take losing when I play those characters.

I think a lot of the hate comes from them trying obvious slow and powerful attacks (like warlock punch) so naturally I counter. They seem to hate his aerials too.

I cut my friend down with the sword of logic and he sort of descended into mad rant that didn't make sense. It was quite vulgar and involved quite... Mature themes that involved Riki for some reason. I'll post what he said on an external link if anyone really wants to see, but...

Anyways, thanks a lot for those links, and I also appreciate your memory of me having the same dilemna a while back. :)

To be honest, Shulk is only cheap if he's played like a tool by spamming Back Slash and you fall for it everytime. Keep in mind that's in the same area as Pikachu abusing Thunder or Link spamming the forward smash.

Mature themes and Riki? Now I'm interested. Never thought those two things could go together, aside from him being in crazy debt.

Well then...
Is it possible to pre-order amiibos? I want to get the Shulk one so badly.
Yes, actually, apparently the Shulk Amiibo will only be distributed to those who preorder, no more, no less, probably to refrain from over saturation since Xenoblade is so new..

I see.
I will try to see if I can pre-order it tomorrow. If I can, good for me!

Imagine the Shulk amiibo with some sort of defect to it. Lots of bucks for something like that. A rare occurrence with a rare amiibo.

I bet that defects are inevitable...
I hope that I have a Shulk wielding two Monados.

Where can one order it? :( I'm sure Shulk will be one of the "rare" ones from his batch.

Shulk is considered a rare amiibo, huh? Nice that he has that "rare" feel to him, not so nice that I probably won't be getting a Shulk amiibo for quite some time T_T

So I went into For Glory and I got owned by a pretty good Sonic... I didn't know how to really handle him at all.

Any tips against Sonic?

I second this. I'm 50/50 with Sonics, though it's a curbstomp battle with me on the receiving end when up against good Sonics.

Check out this neat little Shulk overview from Nintendo Japan!

Sonic is probably my hardest matchup, no matter what character I use (although Rosalina using Luma to stop spin dash is pretty effective lol)

What I can tell you however is that if they use the side b spin dash thingy, they'll try to hit you with that and jump to up air. So, shield the spin dash, and they'll jump trying to get the up air, so punish with nair/utilt. However, be careful as this obviously isn't foolproof, and they will eventually adjust by not jumping during spin dash and going past you.

His immediate counter (:GCD:+:GCB:,:GCR:) is good at dealing with his speed and spindashes other than that Jump and Speed seems to work pretty well.

Agreed on this. Best thing to do with Sonic is try not to let them overwhelm you with their speed/mobility, this is one of the few times i'd use Jump/Speed entirely over Buster if only to keep up with him and actually damage him, but it's all up to how you want to deal with him in the end.

SO on a topic that's not directly related to Shulk(i hope this is ok to have, since its a social thread and all), what are characters that you don't like fighting period, even if your using anyone else besides SHulk? Personally, iv'e never had too many characters that i despise fighting in Smash prior to Sm4sh, but now i have a list. MOstly, i loathe fighting:
* Samus(especially ones that spam Charge Shot)
*Yoshi (one of my most hated match ups)
*Captain Falcon (even though i know what most try to do, and i can shut them down with some chars., they're still hard to deal with if they know what they're doing)
*Sheik (no need to explain here)
*Diddy (again no need)
*R.O.B. (one of my other most hated match ups)
*Duck Hunt(mostly good ones, which are usually campy).

So 7 characters in all. Everyone else on the roster i can deal with pretty fairly, and the only ones that give me trouble are the really skilled ones, who aren't too common. It's just these seven that really annoy me when i come across them. Even when i switch to characters besides my main (Obviously SHulk, : 3) these ones can be tough to deal with, and i range from using characters like Bowser, Ike and Charizard, to Fox and Marth, to Pit and Palutena, and even Ness and Lucario (i have more that i dont list here). What about you guys?

I brutally hate Sheik and Falcon. So fast, so furious.

I can counter both of them with good ol weegee a little, but still... I just hate them.

Falcon's damage can be really overwhelming but spacing him out is effective enough. Some Falcons waaay too greedy for a knee gimp which smells like a counter opportunity but don't expect this from an actual GOOD Falcon player. Space and whack 'em with your sword, and remember that Falcon's u-tilt meteor smashes.

Sheik's annoying but not unwinnable by all means. The needles are the main core of my frustration but really, just don't be too aggressive (Especially with buster and jump). Try not to miss with any aerials because Shulk's attacks have commitment which is basically the opposite of Sheik's whole moveset (absolutely near-zero commitment)

Too lazy to go in-depth with the rest but:
Spamus is fine
Yoshi's pretty annoying (damn those eggs)
Falcon's fine
Sheik's... eh. Okay.
Diddy's obvious but just get used to the match up (Raging about it won't help)
ROB.... I honestly don't know that much about it
Duck Hunt. Actually fine now unlike before

imo, Shulk's harder match ups (Like ranging from slight to solid) are Sheik, Diddy, Rosalina, Fox (Might be even but I don't think so), Ness, and Yoshi. They're not horrible though. At least. For now.

Don't lead him there. Everyone or most users there are already putting Shulk on high tier. Lol. Just show the Japanese tier list

Edit: Wait a minute. Never mind. It's either top/high or low/bottom tier

Any AI with a counter is broken

Countering 99% of my attacks. fml when they counter buster f-smash
Ironically I like how the AI can anticipate attacks since it helps remind me that going flat out aggro is not always the best solution.

Also since the AI is programmed to spam projectiles (if any) from far away, I can take advantage of that by practicing details like reflecting and perfect shields.

I doubt that the amiibo will do things in games outside of Smash, but it's freaking Shulk.

The AI will spam any item that is has from what I've noticed, but it's the most annoying with projectiles. I hate it when they grab a Fire Flower...
I rarely fight level 9 CPUs since they are more frustrating to fight against...

A little off-topic, have two level 9 Marths fight against each other. It's hilarious.

I know about how to deal with Falcon's, and i've fought alot of good ones, although i found out the hard way about meteor U tilt in the 3DS version. Surprisingly i havent fought Sheik yet in the Wii U version, most of my knowledge come froms 3DS. And thanks for the tips.

YEah, i thinki t's just been that i've fought so many spammers with Samus that im annoyed at this point. Yoshi overall is annoying, Diddy, yeah, i have no idea how to deal with onet hat spams chain grabs other than trying to grab the banana.
The deal with ROB is that his Nair is incredibly spammable and great for keeping people away, his SIde B is hard to see coming (it reflects projectiles too), he's pretty good a comboing, and the Top can basically be used for camping, and IMO functions like Peach's turnip in that you can hit with it and grab it to continue using, but it's way harder to deal with IMO(not counting Peach's rare Turnips). I havent fought a good DH with SHulk after the patch, it'smo stly campers that get annoying from past experiences, although im trying to use Speed Arte with Dash+Shielding to try to get close now.

Gotta say, only one of those i've fought in Wii U now is Fox(and Ness, YOshi, not much to say on those ATM though), and with him you just have to try to keep your balance (just dont' get overwhelmed by his Speed) and watch out for his Smash attacks and Fox Illusion (it can catch you off guard pretty easily). I'd say it's even only if you know how to use Shulk's mobility in Jump and Speed to match up with Fox though, Shulk can get combo'ed by him to high percents really easily if you aren't careful.

On another note, that recent name for the Conquest took me offguard, i saw the chars. involved in it, Shulk beingone , the title being noobs, at first i was like "He's not a character that any noob uses! That's LM." IT wasn't until now that i realized they meant that like, with newcomers. XD

I thought that too...
I hope it allows me have the male avatar be able to wear Shulk's clothing and he can wield the Monado. For the female, the Shulk amiibo can have her look like...
[collapse=Xenospoilers]Fiora and she can use Meyneth's Monado.[/collapse]
