Upsets are coming in like fire:

Goblin:ultroy: 3-2 Tweek:ultpokemontrainerf: (I assume?)
Blacktwins:ultpichu: 3-1 Wishes:ultpokemontrainerf::ultjoker: (I think?)
Puppeh:ultpokemontrainerf: 3-0 MVD:ultsnake: to eliminate him at 49th place (how did these two end up fighting so early?)

Goblin :ultroy: 3-2 over Tweek :ultwario:(used :ultpokemontrainerf: in Game 5.)

It’s gonna be a long Losers run for Tweek unless this turns out like SnS where he was knocked out early at 33rd.

Plup DQ’d as well, stating he wasn’t feeling well.

Jeez, all the PT players are dropping like flies lol

Also, we have a :ultrobin: in Top 64 on the Winner’s Side in S Tier event; I think that’s a first, if I recall correctly.

LeoN :ultbowser: 3-1s Leffen :ultpokemontrainer: to send him to losers; I had a feeling this would happen, given how much Leffen hates Bowser lol

Well there goes my :ultridley: hopes.
Man I was waiting for a :ultrobin: to bat Top 64. Sooner or later the small playerbase is gonna make another notable breakout.
:ultkingdedede: Leffen put Dedede on a "Don't Care" tier and got 0-2ed by Zaki at Prime Saga. (2 stocked as well) Now this. Leffen really holds a grudge against super-heavies.

Checking on Light's and Leffen's Tweets, apparently the set-ups for games that are being streamed cause the game to lag in its inputs; between this, the lack of headphones, and the mosquitos in the area, Shine is looking to be a reaaallll cursed tournament lol

Oh yeah, and :ultmario: 3-0s Smokk :ultganondorf:, eliminating him at 65th place.

Well there goes my :ultridley: hopes.

I know I shouldn't be surprised by character specialists having their breakout, but it still is for some reason; major props to Robin, though, predicting it might happen with :ultpit: next lol.

But yeah, Leffen's always hated superheavies; for online play, he put :ultbowser: and :ultganondorf: in top tier, saying they're characters that play better if you just "stop thinking".

Yeah, Juuuuul is the only really strong Robin that’s been gaining traction.

Actually, Myran's out at 25th place; I think that's the 3rd time in a row he's gotten 25th at an S Tier event? At least he's been consistent lol

Bestness :ultness: 3-0s yeti :ultmegaman:, eliminating him at 25th place.

Also, Tweek has been using the :ultwario: way more lately.

EDIT: Blacktwins13 :ultpichu: 3-1s Goblin :ultroy: to send him to Loser's. Where was blacktwins13 during the nerfs this whole time? He's really killing it right now.

From what I've seen, Juice has been using :ultfalco: this entire tournament.

Dabuz :ultrosalina: 3-1s LeoN :ultbowser:, sending him to Loser's. It was an interesting choice to go Rosa instead of :ultolimar:, but it definitely paid off for Dabuz.

EDIT: Sandstorm :ultryu: 3-0s Salem :ulthero:, eliminating him at 49th place.

Top players are adapting to Leon. The upset factor's high in this game and it's all about adaptation.

Speaking of which, I'm glad to see Tweek's using more than just PT. His character versatility is one of his strong points, especially since he tends to get downloaded.

Suarez :ultyoshi: 3-2s Light :ultfox:, eliminating him at 25th place.

LeoN :ultbowser:3-0s Suarez :ultyoshi:, eliminating him at 17th place

LeoN :ultbowser:3-0 over Jw :ultgreninja:, eliminating Jw at 13th place.

LeoN makes Top 12 and is on an apparent rampage through Losers.

Juice :ultfalco: taking out two top 16 PGR players, and placing 13th with basically solo Falco (and ZSS early on) was hype as hell, personally.

Falco 13th at an S-tier, outdoing his Top 32 appearance at EVO. Juice out here doing work.

Can someone please Raffi-X:ultrob: an award for "one of the most improved players".

He is playing like a completely different beast in recent times in comparison to the past.

Dark Wizzy :ultmario: 3-2s NickC :ultfalcon:, ending his impressive run at 13th place; major props to Dark Wizzy for finally breaking into the Top 12, great gameplay by both players.

And goddamn, where was Raffi-X this whole time? The dude's out in the shadows and has already outplaced 8BitMan and/or WaDi twice in a row now.

Top players are adapting to his dair habit, basically. That and there's a reason Dabuz chose Rosa over Olimar.

Wait has Nario beem using ZSS this whole tournament? If so How long can Marss continue to meme memeit up now that other players are getting good results with her?

Also geez Leo you keep tweeting about picking up secondaries for Joker's questional MU's bit never actullay use them. Then again :ultchrom: has his own difficulties with :ultpikachu:

All those DAir's LeoN tried doing against Dabuz even though he adapted against them really costed him the third game, despite it being pretty close.

I can try to give my best answer based on my analysis of the set, but from what I've seen, the two reasons Dabuz chose :ultrosalina: over :ultolimar: are:

A. Rosalina's UAir has much more juggle potential than Olimar, so Dabuz used Bowser's big body and his lack of landing options to his advantage during some points of the game; Bowser has DAir, which is a very scary move to get hit by, but it's also a very committal move, having an atrocious 30+ frames of landing lag (to put things in perspective, :ultzss:'s and :ultgnw:'s DAirs have 24 frames and 22 frames of landing lag respectively); LeoN started going real trigger happy with the DAirs at one point in the set, and it ended up costing him a game.

B. Rosalina's ledge trapping, combined with Bowser's lack of get-up options, puts him at a huge disadvantage anytime Dabuz threw LeoN offstage. This basically happened during Dabuz's set against Elegant at Low Tier City: Just like :ultluigi:, every answer Bowser tried to scrounge up at the ledge, Rosalina would always have an answer for him, whether it was a grab or Luma's USmash (or insert any other nutty Luma attacks here). Bonus points to Bowser's fairly linear recovery, which Dabuz was able to punish thanks to Rosalina's/Luma's effective disjoints.

Funny how after he lost to Dabuz, LeoN continued his massacre once more, swiftly 3-0ing Jw and Suarez in a row to get to losers, lol.

Nairo's been using :ultpalutena: for this tournament, at least in the sets that were streamed of him, including the Marss set where he got 3-0ed. I'm a little surprised that Nairo didn't try to go :ultjoker: against Marss in Games 2 or 3 but I guess he had the best chances using his best character against Marss no matter how hard the set was.

MKLeo’s Joker is still his best pick. With months being put into the character, he understands so much about Joker’s MUs and is able to easily work around them. It’s why MKLeo can adapt extremely well and turn the tables completely over despite being at the brink of losing.

We never really saw MKLeo’s Chrom, but it probably isn’t as fine tuned as his Joker. Although I do wish to see him use Chrom, I understand that doing so for the first time against top players at an S-Tier tournament could be extremely risky.

So.... Nairo's :ultrobinf: just 3-0'ed LeoN:ultbowser: (who also used :ultgnw: at game 2).

Has Jul's performance here just launched some sort of Robin renaissance?

Is that Robin? lol not a common icon. I use 3 heavies, although not Bowser and hate the Robin MU. Robin walls hard with projectiles and has big Levin sword swings in advantage. I don't blame Leon for switching.

Dark Wizzy :ultmario: 3-1s Jakal :ultwolf::ultsonic:, being the first Mario to ever reach Top 8 at an S Tier event.

Raffi-X :ultrob: 3-2s Blacktwins13 :ultpichu:; major props to Blacktwins getting this far with Pichu, and to Raffi for being the first R.O.B. to place Top 8 at an S Tier event (I think? WaDi might've done it, but I forgot when)

LeoN still had a good run, but it was either Nairo's :ultpalutena: or :ultrobin:, both of which must suck for :ultbowser:, I imagine.

Tweek :ultwario: 3-1s ESAM :ultpikachu: to make into Loser's Top 8.

I guess on top of super armor, the ability to kill at 50%, and it's frame 9 start-up, Wario Waft can also apparently hit opponents above Wario lol Nice to see Tweek bust out the Wario again, though, his Bike + Dash Attack set-up at Game 4 was so smart.

I think WaDi got top 8 at CEO 2019.

I think CEO was an A Tier event (although it being an A Tier event is odd, given how many entrants were there).

Dark Wizzy :ultmario: 3-0s Raffi-X :ultrob:, eliminating him at 7th place; such a tense set, Games 2 and 3 were extremely close; Raffi almost had the last game had Wizzy not fallen out of the Arm Rotor.

Nario :ultpalutena:3-2 Tweek :ultwario: with one impressive and intense 3-0 comeback. Man it came doen Tweek whiffing that waft in that last-stock situation

I was getting deja vu flashbacks of Super Smash Con's Maister-Marss set; what was going on with Tweek's SDs during game 3 and 4?

Nairo :ultpalutena: 3-2s Tweek :ultwario: in an amazing reverse 3-0 outside of some flubs like a crucial missed Waft by Tweek in Game 5 (also that sus N-Air DI at the end of G5). Tweek is out at 7th.

Marss..what are you doin?

Well that was...something. Marss :ultzss::ultike: 3-2 Dark Wizzy :ultmario:. I dunno why Marss decised to slum it with Ike those first 2 games, especially since he has no issues ij the MU with ZSS before but he got the reverse 3-0 after switching back to her..but that was partly due to crucial wrong inputs/descisions in game 4 and 5

DW almost had it, but near the end, he was REALLY starting to flub his punishes and let Marss get away with too many whiffed Boost Kicks.

Nario :ultpalutena:3-2 Dabuz :ultrosalina: eliminating him at 5th place.

So was Dabuz going solo Rosalina the entire tournament? I only saw him using her for all his streamed sets. If so that is a pretty impressive showing at an S-tier with a character considered mid-tier at best.

I think he sort of was (he was using some Olimar as well), but the only major he got with Rosa was LeoN and Blacktwins (maybe?).

Samsora :ultpeach: 3-1s MKLeo :ultjoker:, earning a spot in GFs; I would say this is a big win for Samsora, but Leo’s at his scariest in the Loser’s Bracket, so it would be a mistake to celebrate too early.

Hey, good for Samsora. He beat Tweek and Leo at the last tournament too. People: "no one compares to Tweek and Leo", Samsora: "hold my beer".

Even if ZSS did struggle with the Mario MU... Ike ain't exactly stellar at it either. Mario's one of the few characters who's a legit threat to Ike no matter how he tries to recover while also being able to stuff Nair fairly easily once he's close enough.

Weird choice to bust out the Ike then for sure.
