Yeah I feel this is overshadowing the two Shantae games getting ported to Switch this September. Not just Risky's Revenge but the FIRST SHANTAE GAME TOO?! Considering the only other means owning it was paying nearly half a thousand dollars and that every Shantae game currently are finally gonna be all on one system together, this would be a huge deal! But no! Instead we're talking about Bakugan!
OK, but in fairness the first announcement is still about old games we've played (possibly several times) before. What more is there to be said that we don't already know about them or general thoughts that haven't already been covered here? Anyone? Any comments besides how great this is?

In fairness also, how many new to Shantae ever got to play her first game that everyone is charging $400-500 on ebay?

The first game's available on the 3DS eShop, so anyone who has a 3DS, an internet connection, and a few dollars could play it.

I never could get a 3DS ;-;

Plus having all her games on the same Nintendo console also puts her in an even more favorable light with 'em even more accessible now. I'm sure WayForward could've announced the Shantae ports in the Treehouse if they could but I blame WB.

It's nice to see someone else actually notice the looniness of this thread, for a change.

That said, it's an excellent point and really conspicuous. Sure, it wouldn't necessarily mean that a Smash deal got landed, but it's still weird how they not only ported the old Shantae and Xtreme Sports games on Switch just now, but even managed to have repro carts of them as an option thanks to LRG, after the past few physical releases of Shantae stuff only had decorative carts. When was the last time that LRG even did this at all?

On a side note, 4 SKUs were seen in Gamestop's database, so the July 20th Direct rumor is steadily looking true.

I'm just glad that Shantae is getting enough love from nintendo to put all her games on the latest console :) like M00NFIRE94 M00NFIRE94 is pointing out.

Even then, Shantae's first game is not that well known to everyone unlike the later titles. Now, it's in the spotlight after humble beginnings once September rolls over.

This. I got the original Shantae and Xtreme Sports on the 3DS a while back. Though iirc Xtreme Sports is pretty meh.

In response to the whole "Why did WB/Nintendo do this as a surprise announcement if it was gonna be that lame" thing.

I mean, it worked didn't it? People are sure talking about it now. The old adage "There's no such thing as bad publicity" may be an exaggeration but it exists for a reason.

I remember seeing some ads for Bakugan a few years ago on youtube, it seemed like something I would have really been into if I were twenty years younger.

Oh its publicity alright. Personally i dont think it's bad to do that from WB's side. But I think people are disappointed in Nintendo for putting it there, and how they did it. It just felt underwhelming basically. But I know some people are like oh nintendo are money grubbers or something. I guess it depends how much money WB offered them, or what kind of partnership they have. Dunno.

The real question is, why even bother going to the trouble of making the game Switch exclusive if it's really just a low-effort advertisement game? You'd think making it multiplatform would give it more exposure, and I've not heard anything to indicate it makes use of features that other consoles don't have.

I mean, in all fairness, it's on my radar now. I probably won't get it, but I'm paying attention to it to see if it's worth getting. Like I said, I have seen a couple of the monsters in the series and some of them are really cool, WF making the game only give me more confidence in it's quality (as all their licensed games I have played were great) The combat still seems luke warm, but I will keep seeing what they show to see if anything in it heats up.

So, yeah. From a marketing standpoint, it worked. I wouldn't have paid attention to the newest Bakugan game at all if it wasn't for the fact that I was waiting to see WF's latest game.

Heh ok fair enough. It works for advertising. Do nintendo fans like having that advertisement right after paper mario tho? :p
Anyway, it is what it is. I do want to believe that WF making it should mean that it's decent and hopefully some will enjoy it, but I really won't be looking at it anymore than they showed, it's not my cup of tea XD

Just making my way around my most-wanted threads. Shantae is next.

I'll admit, I don't have a big attachment to Shantae, though I do own pretty much all of her games, with the exception of the original GBC one. I wanted to play them in order, so I haven't played any of them in full just yet, only tidbits here and there. I own Pirate's Curse on Wii U, and the rest on Switch.

I remember the demand for her back during the ballot days, and I'm glad that's persisted to this day. I was hyped on seeing her potentially in Smash 4's DLC, but that never happened, as we know.

She would definitely have a unique moveset unlike any other fighter. Funnily enough, I don't really count her as "indie" for some reason (probably because of the GBC title, there's a couple of other games I don't consider indie anymore like Minecraft) but she's still great in my eyes.

Definitely another sleeper pick for FP2, besides Dixie Kong. Count me in!

Plus with the Switch progressively becoming and soon to be Nintendo's highest selling video game console of all time, it puts more eyes on our gal.

The ones I want most are Shantae, Krystal, and Impa.
Wouldnt mind a kirby character too because that's one of my fave nintendo franchises :)

I'm sure there's lots of characters that would be fun too tho.

I wish we got Hyrule Warriors Impa. She'd be like Cloud.

I wish we got Hyrule Warriors anything. Koei Tecmo is friendly enough to let Fatal Frame stuff in Ultimate, but nothing from their collaborations with Nintendo? That makes no sense.

Pretty much this. I loved how Link looked in HW, with the extra armor plates and the blue cape. Fits him so well. I wished we had alt costumes of the HW appearances, at least. HW Ganon would work well, especially with his new Smash attacks. Same with Zelda.

Krystal is still someone I want besides Shantae. I did get Ridley.
Lol I forgot you had impa and krystal in your sig too. A person of good tastes XD

There's other characters from HW that i'd love, but i dont think they're nearly as popular or well known as her, so she's my first pick.

Mischief Makers is SUPER underrated. It's one of the best platformers on the console and yet it's severely overlooked along with the Goemon games. Marina is a pipedream and the least I would ever expect of her in Smash is a Mii costume like Goemon got.

Lol yeah true enough, i wouldnt expect her to be popular enough. The games was so interesting. A mii brawler costume would be nice!
And I did play some of the goemon (including on n64), it was fun.

I can't tell you how happy I was to see Goemon get a Mii costume. I cried in tears of joy because I never expected Goemon to appear in Smash in any form for a million years let alone a freaking Mii costume.

Once Shantae gets in (or hard disconfirmed) I'll be rooting for Marina Lightyears and Jason Frudnick. As unlikely as they might seem, they hold a special place in my heart and I do feel they both have their place in gaming history. And they'd make amazing and unique fighters in my opinion ;)
I really hope we get a solid 'classic' character in this pass though...

Marina Liteyears...
As great as a character she is, I cannot see it happening.
Not until all the legal uncertainties around her are resolved.

As far as I know, no third-party character with less than two games ever got in before, so that might cause an issue. Someone from Sin & Punishment would be easier to get.

Luckily, Shantae has five games to her name, so that's no obstacle.

Does Joker count? Persona has been around for years, but the games always have a different protagonist, cast, and story from what I can recall.

Even then, he did have that dancing spin-off and that secondary character appearance in Q2 prior to Smash, if we're purely going by number of game appearances.
I guess Geno would count if he get's in. Yes, he had a cameo in M&LSS but that's it. I don't count his Mii costume from Smash 4 or his Spirit from Ultimate as appearances because if we are going that route than literally every one off character that was a Spirit or trophy in Smash are relavent or have appeared in more than one game.

Undertale got into smash as a mii costume. I think it doesn't really matter how many games there are, if there's demand or legacy.

ROB had very little :p

He still had more than one, if you count him being a console.

But really though, if anyone can get in as a full-fledged playable character (not Mii costume, that doesn't count) going by that logic, why haven't we seen Quote from Cave Story yet? Gene from God Hand? A character from Brawlhalla? Or that guy from Dead Cells?

It's obvious that they can't just pick everyone at once. The line has to be drawn somewhere.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, they'll prioritize anyone noteworthy that's from a company that's already closely associated with Nintendo, or a big-name series, and that's the main focus. Unless lesser-known characters get enough fan demand, not much, if anything, will be done with them.

One character or costume at a time :p
It's not a straight ladder down either, like how persona really doesnt match to the sales or popularity of the rest at all. In any case, i dont see the point in shutting doors. Doesnt mean i think some have a lot of chance. I dont think marina has much, but no one's saying she does. She just has some love from her fans :)
