Glad that it is going to be out in that April/May time frame, now let's hope Wayforward learns from its other big mistake and actually markets the game via Nintendo Directs or other media outlets. New indie studios are running circles around them in that regard.

I still think that WF will announce the game trailer at their channel when ready like they did with River City Girls. Though, that could change next year.

I really hope not. Their channel does not have as wide an audience as a Nindie Direct or a State of Play, and releasing the trailer to their fans only will not help them gain notoriety.

Hell, the biggest bit of popularity they've gained in the last few years has been solely because of Smash speculation, not even their games.

I can't predict WF's next moves, but I do hope that what happens next year might change. Plus, WF has been getting better with their projects and cooperation with others like TRIGGER studios this year.

Sadly, this is true.

However, just because the game has been officially delayed doesn't mean it's a deconfirmation for her potentially being CP5 (Sabi technically said a Spirit promotion was likely when he BTFO'd Verge's statement the other day).

Also, the last couple of Shantae games have been delayed, so this doesn't surprise me.

Though I'm reminded of the few cutscenes in SS, Shantae running late to make it for the show (her and her trailer running late for the show), and Shantae falling through the city floor (only to land into Smash).

I still want a spirit to get promoted solely so I can see how they figure out a way to make both versions 'canon'. Like a split soul or something.

Honestly, dlc for many games have largely been known to simply throw current canon out the window.

If it really bugs Sakurai or the development team that much, they'll just have the trailer reveal taking place after the true ending with Galeem and Dharkon. Either by returning to their real world first and receiving the invitation, or simply escaping that ascending spirit twister to return to the Smash world.

As for the spirit itself, they don't even need to cut it. They can take a few seconds out of the way during the development/programming process to just simply opening the file for spirit name and changing it to include the source game in parentheses if it bugs them even further. E.g.

Actually the Rayman spirit art is from Legends (and so is the battle if you ask me), but either way they don't even need to go that far; just specify the new spirits as being fighters, and maybe just use Ultimate renders like Cloud or Robin.

Well, good on WayForward for giving us some news before the Game awards so people wouldn't be upset when there wasn't a trailer or release date. Still if the date was moved back to spring, then they knew there wasn't a chance of it releasing this year for a while, so you'd think they could have told us this a while ago.

Oh well, still good to have a more concrete date and I'm actually glad for the delay because releasing this month didn't seem like enough time. I will happily wait for things to get finished to have a complete product... I'm just hoping that they could make some kind of deal with Limited Run games to get the physical version released closer to the release date than they did with River City Girls.

As for the awards, my only real hope is that whoever gets announced for #5 they are someone I can get excited about. This pass so far doesn't have a great batting average for me with two I don't care about, one I'm ok with and one I am really excited about. Who #5 is will depend on if I buy the full pass or just the two characters I'm interested in.

I suppose you're right, but it feels so... deliberate as well.

It's suspicious they waited THIS LONG to tell people there was a delay. I think they knew as early as Halloween the game wasn't gonna be ready before the end of the year. They should've told us then, not allowed this to go on to the day every fan is thinking something exciting is about to unfold.

As someone whose made entertainment with set release dates before, I know how bad that can be when you do that to fans who are waiting and anticipating something you've worked really hard on. You should tell them well in advance, not like how WF did.

Regardless of the hubbab going on with regards to conspiracies, I'm glad we're getting a confirmed delay. And this doesn't really have much of an effect on Shantae's chances in Smash. Maybe except our rather stretching basis of a Shantae announcement at TGA, but still, better to get our game later and worry about her being promoted on a different time than bundled with an announcement.

It's not the masses's money that's on the line this time. Kickstarter backers get more antsy than most if things don't go to plan.
