Not relevant to Shantae...but Linkle =/= "female/genderbent Link." Linkle is a seperate character from Link.
Linkle, concept wise, before she was made official in 2015, started off as simply gender swapped Link.
I'm 50/50 on it. I think it's very much likely because fighters nowadays usually have multiple seasons of characters packs to keep players invested over a very long period of time and because they found enough free space to last about 3 seasons if they chose to do it.

I'm aware but the end result and the design that Aonuma actually approved is a character who largely has no relation to Link and is as such something I actually enjoy.
He and YCG are humble that much can be said. I could see Shovel Knight willingly giving Shantae his invitation to give her what he believes she deserves more than anyone else in their field.

Where does it say that? On the Smash Bros. website, it just says "Fighters Pass".
Nowhere does it say Wave 1
As if he'd be aware of all the circumstances, regardless of what the truth is; it's highly unlikely Nintendo would share the outline of DLC plans with all companies involved.

That too yes. Granted, there's an uber small window between when he made that tweet and Sakurai's official tweet, but that's assuming DLC wasn't already confirmed done by the direct, which seems plausible given the wording.
I would love for this to be the case, but looking the past it seems Sakurai wants to oversee everything in this game. Like when they announced a new smash game without telling him, he pretty much had to join in.
He is gradually letting his team share more of the workload. Remember how he said he had no say in the character balancing this time, which you'd imagine is a big part of developing DLC characters.
At least 50/50, leaning to 60%. While we legitimately have no idea how much motivation and energy the staff will have by the end of the fighter pass' releases, the possibility of enough fan demand encouraging a second one is there.
Though this helps a fair bit.
Just being a massively selling multiplayer game with paid add-on content, on a system with a long and healthy life ahead of it all bode well for long-term support. The worst I see happening is there's long periods between "waves".

I really do think a second Fighter's Pass is coming, I don't think there will be an issue with this first pass selling and that seems to be the only other thing stopping it from happening. I just don't want the big man himself overworking himself, so more help with this is really good.
Yeah, one of the biggest worries for a lot of people, me included, is that Sakurai will sacrifice too much of his health. It's actually a huge problem in places like Japan, where some people overwork themselves so much they are either made incredibly ill or actually die because of it.
