A spirit is just a glorified sticker, nothing more. A trophy was a 3D model (and for some retro character, that was awesome), now we just have pre-existing images. I prefered trophies. Spirits feel like they tried to put everything into one mode. The result is a lame adventure mode, some discount event matches and glorified stickers instead of trophies. It may be rude but here, Sakurai treated people like crap.
But that's typical from Sakurai, he's always telling people how hard this is to make everything. I trusted him and still trust him for Brawl and Smash 4. But I don't trust him for Ultimate. Sakurai telling how hard everything is when in fact this Smash Bros was probably one of the easiest to make is just storytelling and I don't like that kind of hypocrisy.
"Treated people like crap"
As though Sakurai went out of his way to disappoint you on purpose?
And the easiest Smash to make based on what? Ultimate probably took a lot from Sm4sh. But Sm4sh took a lot from Brawl and Brawl took a lot from Melee. Doesn't change the fact that all of the new content that needed to be added still took a lot of work.
Right off the helm of Sm4sh, they pull him back and make him develop another game. He added a good chunk of content to make Ultimate all it's own and that includes of lot of things people have been asking for; newcomers like Ridley, Simon, and K. Rool, every veteran returns, almost every stage returns, hazard toggle, FS meter, lots of the usual additions in items, assists, Pokemon, etc. The amount of content in this game is absurd and yet people ask as though it has less than every game before it.
The absence of trophies was unfortunate, I'm a bit disappointed about it as well, but bringing over and at times having to create brand new models from scratch in a game already filled to the brim with content is going to take time away that could be spent doing something else. I'll always prefer trophies, but spirits are a fair compromise given that it allows for even more characters to at least show up in some form while actually taking up less space in the games files and freeing up a bit of time and manpower to work on the rest of the game.
There's a lot of new content in this game just like every Smash before it, and the sheer amount of total content dwarfs that of past games. If said content doesn't wow you or fit your particular tastes, or there are aspects you just disagree with and dislike that's fine, but you're going to call Sakurai a hypocrite for trying his damn hardest to please people with all this fanservice in a series that's already full of it?
You just sound entitled.
