You. Need. To. Stop.
I think people can side with a possibility if they want, so long as we can actually talk together well and be open too.
That said, it's not a strong point for some people T_T

Thats not why I said it. He is essentially trolling at this point, if not borderline trying to derail discussion.

People can think what they want in regards to the leak, but Connor has a habit of derailing discussion, constantly bashing everything if it doesn't have Banjo Kazooie in it, posting irrelevant content, and overall causing problems.

You're right, it really does look like trolling in some ways. I know he isn't fully doing it intentionally, or at least aware of it. I dont want to say too much, but there's reasons for why he is the way he is (not to say it should be used as an excuse). Sometimes the posts happen to be funny tho. But I get not always seeing it that way too.

I feel like mystic is flip flopping like me:p
Nope. He has his thoughts and opinions but listens to those who know better than him. That's why he said the banner leak is fake, because someone with credibility told him, so he took that more seriously.
(doesn't mean it's actually the truth, but he seems to think, or claims, that it's pretty authoritative)

He said he believes in the leak

Then he calls the leak bull

Yes because it was convincing. Lots of people bought it.
And then someone that knows better than him, in a position to know (as he says) told him it wasnt true.

He changed his belief because he has a good reason to, not because he wanted it to be fake.

You know what...I just had a thought that might make those of you on team real think a bit...

What if the banner is real...but it isn't the final roster? What if its a banner that was printed off for an event of some sort, or for simple advertising? What if it was somehow not the actual final banner, and Sakurai's royal flush is still waiting?

As far as I know, we have only had (counting the banner leak) about 16 newcomers. Assuming the banner leak is completely real, that would still leave the possibility of surprise newcomers, as while Sakurai did say not to expect too many newcomers, he also said the same during Smash 4, where we got a whole 21 (and that game had to create two entire versions of the game).

Now, I personally feel that the banner leak, if it is even real, likely has significant flaws. However, I won't discount the possibility of some big reveal later on still in wait.

There could be something to that, but it's also a little unlikely considering how much time is left before the game is out.
Maybe for dlc though. ..Or sure maybe he was saving a big surprise for the last month :)

Something I'm curious about. Assuming the picture is for one of those circular ceiling displays...what is said display for? Are we gonna have a new event between now and release or is it just for something like the NY Nintendo Store?

If there is a character to be revealed after all the banner ones are, it wouldn’t be Shantae. She’s not a character that would be able to end things with a bang, especially if Banjo is shown off before.

Oh, im not saying a single character. Im talking about the potential of 2-5, if not more.

We got 21 newcomers in Smash 4, and they had to create two entire games for that. This time, it is more or less porting (which, while still definitely tough, is less labor-intensive than brand new content). Now, im not guaranteeing this, as I understand game development is really tough business. However, there could be room to fit additional newcomers, possibly even more than Smash 4's count.

Welp. I took a break, went to watch catch up on my anime this week with Phoenix Wright, One Piece, etc and even tried new anime like SSSS Gridman and Skull-faced Honda. Good stuff, all of it. Anyways, I figured if there was something worth knowing, friends would alert me, and sure enough, I got buzzed about MysticDistance.

I've read over it, and honestly.. I like the cut of his jive. He comes across in the same vein as Papagenos, so I'm inclined to believe him, especially considering just how nasty and toxic things have been for those just trying to get information out there. Funnily enough, after seeing what Papagenos had to say yesterday, I had to sit down and really think about the situation and came to the conclusion that at least 4 of those were in, and the others had to be ATs. I hadn't considered DLC because Sakurai hadn't started till very late. Either way.. MysticDistance's thoughts have pretty much mirrored mine.

In short, going by what he says, I do believe there's at least two or three more franchises (Depends on Banjo-Kazooie) left based on what he said about there being 108 stages. So Shantae and Bandana Waddle Dee (Who I also support just a little less than our half-genie) still have a very good chance of being in.

Hey guys, so for a change of pace from all the leak stuff, what would you say is the best Shantae game to start with for someone who hasn't played the series?

I'm a big fan of Metroidvanias and I'm told some of the Shantae games are sort of in that vein. Plus this is a very popular thread so I'm curious to see what's behind the hype haha.

You can play them in order, the original Shantae is pretty difficult to get ahold of, so if you want, start with Risky's Revenge. It's an alright game but you need to play it to really understand all the interactions that go down in Pirate's Curse which everyone agrees is the best Shantae game by a mile. Both Risky's Revenge and Pirate's Curse are on Steam and are often on sale so go get them as soon as you can!

Well the leak stuff has definitely taken a toll on many in the Smash community so I'll take you up on that offer.

If you're looking for a metroidvania to play then Risky's Revenge is probably your best bet. Pirate's Curse is also an option but the story is closely related to RR so you might be confused on that end.

Alternatively the original GBC is an option if you don't mind the older graphics/controls.
https://emulatoronline.com/gbc-games/shantae/ (This the emulator I used since the original ones are rare as hell)

And while Half-Genie-Hero isn't a metroidvania per say it still has some elements of it and its a fun game to play.

Hope this helps a little bit.

Cool, sounds like Risky's Revenge is the place to start so I'll hopefully pick it up in the upcoming Steam sale if there's a nice discount. I'm confused about what Half-Genie Hero is. Is it an original new game, or a remake of an earlier game?...

In my opinion, start with the second game Risky’s Revenge, then continue with the subsequent games. It’s fairly short but it should be inexpensive enough. At the very least watch a playthrough of it to get a sense of the story. The third game, Pirate’s Curse is arguably the best game but a lot of stuff won’t make sense unless you’ve played or seen RR first. The first game can be skipped over but it is worth seeing/playing through at least once whenever you can get around to it, bear in mind some parts can be a little archaic

It’s a straight up sequel with a new story. Half-Genie Hero strays from its Metroidvania roots and incorporates more of a platforming style but there are still elements of its roots present. It’s more structured along the lines of Ducktales or Mega Man.

While the other Shantae games are more traditional metroidvanias with an open world to explore, HGH has a more linear level design similar to the 2d mario games with some added transfromations to incentivize replaying levels for collectibles, items and whatnot.

That's a funny way of spelling "Elena" :p
That's some good taste you got there! <3 I love her!

Also I always think of Megaman X as a good comparison to HGH. Linear levels with a boss at the end and various power ups hidden around the level that you can go back and get.

Hopefully, DLC will get the roster number up to 100. But 90 plus seems realistic, but I'm hoping we will get to getting 100 characters in the roster.

I would be shocked if we made it to 90.
While Ultimate probably doesn't have as many newcomers as Smash 4 in base, it will make it up for it in numbers in DLC. I believe Ultimate will have more DLC characters then Smash 4 did. It would make sense because of how much more successful the Switch is compared to the Wii U, so Nintendo would definitely would want to put in more numbers of characters for DLC for the Switch Smash then they would have for the Wii U Smash.

Things never end with a bang though. :ultgnw::ultolimar::ultwolf::ultduckhunt: The only exception is arguably :ultbayonetta:, but in a way that wound up the wrong kind of bang.

No worries, I know Wolf has his fans, I'm just saying.

This Smash will probably be the exception to that rule compared to the other games in the series because of all of the newcomers being the most highly requested characters in the franchise's history.

If that's the case I think Ridley would and should have been the last reveal due to being the biggest meme for well over a decade. Geno, K. Rool, Isaac, they were all secondary to the Ridley backing.
We fans have this made up idea of "hype" reveals or whatever but that has never been the case with Sakurai, it's much more likely we got the big guns out of the way and the last reveal will be like, Elma or something.

In my case I think it could be someone completely random like Foreman Spike. The man likes his vintage characters.

It's easy unless you're a physical collector.

Like me, I want to grab a CIB of it.

While Ridley was insanely more requested compared to the rest of the pack, I don't think he should have been that grand finale character. If any of the highly requested characters should be the last one announced, it should be Banjo-Kazooie. They would draw in more hype for everybody and not just the hardcore fanbase.

I want y'alls honest opinion. Do y'all think that Ultimate will be a good game? I think I may be in the extreme minority (as in 1/100000), but I don't think it will be much different than Smash 4. What did y'all think about Smash 4? To me, it was so slow and lacked a lot of fun movement that other games had. Ultimate just kind of looks like the same thing. Sure "wave dashing" is "back" but It's not even close to what it's full potential can be. The only thing that keeps me excited is Shantae.

I guess I'm wanting to ask, what is your opinion on Sm4sh/Ulitmate compared to the 64/Melee/PM?

I think it will be different. The physics are different, the speed is different, and possibly more than that. There has been plenty of analysis showcasing that there is more to Ultimate than one or two new features.
