I still think that would bode well for her chances in Smash if Nintendo cared enough about her to give her an amiibo. Given her history with Nintendo, I'd say that a Shantae amiibo would greatly increase her chances of being in Smash.

That's true, but other characters have got two amiibo before. Or the amiibo could also be used for Smash.

I could see that happening.

Regardless, I think that as long as we don't see her deconfirmed as an assist trophy, her chances are still good. Either in the base roster or as DLC.

I think people forget that the main reason Shovel Knight was more popular was because back then we all thought we were voting for Smash 4 DLC. And when your character relies on transformations, trying to get in a game that pointedly has NO transformations sounds a bit daft. Shovel Knight just sounded more practical and likely as a result, and we all know what happens when people get into their heads that character x is a "dead cert".

Also, didn't we have this same amiibo conversation about Shovel Knight? It didn't work out for him, so I don't see it working out for Shantae.

Personally I would say that if a non-Smash amiibo for Shantae is shown then she is sadly deconfirmed. There is no point to release two amiibo of the same character (which is also a niche one, unlike Link or Mario) this close to one another. It's the same reason why I'm fairly sure that Solaire will not be a newcomer for Smash.

With that said a Shantae amiibo would probably be the next best thing for her besides being in Smash, and I would buy it so quickly that the money will burn.
And I would also put her among the other Smash amiibo

I do kinda miss the old dance mechanic. Yeah it was slow but kinda fun as she actually did a different dance to transform. I get why they changed it though to make it faster and more stream lined.

However there was a good point on the transformations not being that useful in combat. Kinda wished they were a bit more. Like all the forms should have had a basic attack at the start, and then gained a second attack or more ultility with an upgrade. Like the spider for example, should have had a claw attack, then got the spit poison attack.

You know, what do you guys think her alternate colors are gonna be? While I love the concept Wayforward did, I doubt they would get more than one costume. I imagine that she will just have colors that reference her friends, as well as her blue outfit. If she were to get a costume, I feel like it would Be her Jammies. Not only would it reference the Jammies Mode, but it is her most recurring alternate outfit that is not the Space Princess outfit.

If I had to guess, her alt. colors/outfits would probably be colors based off of Risky, Sky, Rotty, Bolo and Nega Shantae, and she'll have her pajamas as an alternative costume. That's mostly due to the series constantly changing artists after RR. Well, that and making Shantae look more her age while emphasizing how older/bigger/sexier Risky is.

It will be interesting to see if WayForward/Matt mention the Direct at all. If they tweet about it, it could be a good sign. It's especially a good sign is Sakurai also tweets about it, even if it's only a retweet.

Instead of it just being an explosion after she dances, I hope it'll be more subtle than that.
I'd like to see it as something as her effect when she dances in HGH, the camera thumps with the beat and notes, hearts and/or stars fly out from her in random directions. After a short time these explode dealing heavy damage to anyone caught in their blast-radius.

Considering I never used that dance in HGH, I'm not surprised that didn't pop into my mind, but that is a pretty good one! Or they could troll people who were happy that the Landmaster was gone and knock out two reps in one by having her transform into Sophia III.

Also, on the topic of a Shantae amiibo, I've wanted one for so long that I ended up just commissioning a custom amiibo-like figurine from a guy on Twitter. He used the Disney Infinity Princess Jasmine as a base.

Man just wanna say how happy I am at how much this support for her has blown up, seeing as how I've wanted her in for a while now but believed her to be nothing more than a pipe dream a month or two ago!

Now I am fully expecting her while still trying to keep my hype and expectations in check, regardless if some may call me an unrealistic and delusional fool!

My feedback is that maybe they can add a mechanic where transformations could be fast (seamless), but doing a longer dance gives you the ability to be attack with the transformation. Make the tranformations done by dance strong in a fight. This way you can quickly transform to move around, you'll feel agile, but at the same time, you feel like dancing will power you up to kick some ***.

Also to address the back tracking complaint, ability to add custom levels might expand the variety. Maybe get the community to regularly expand content.

My only problem with the transformation dance in HGH was that she wasn't doing much actual dancing. Don't get me wrong, 'dem hips don't lie, but a little variety would've been very nice.
