Well, there's a difference between laying low with nintendo ,and completely ignoring fans who bring up smash, lol.
There could still be a reason we don't understand. but im'a say our little genie is in the game in some form.

Maybe they are very disappointed Shantae isn't in that they don't want to think about smash anymore and overall don't want to give smash the bare minimum of spotlight

To be honest, i don't think that Skull Kid is likely. The character is great and could be really unique but he didn't have a big popularity until recent weeks (bandwagon effect). I don't think that we can compare his popularity to many characters' popularity. I'd be surprised but still really happy to see him getting in the game. I really think that Shantae is far more likely than Skull Kid since she's FAR more popular than him since we know for a fact that she did well in the ballot.

I'm gonna get this off my chest. I realize there's no real basis of comparison between Shantae and Skull Kid. However...

I cannot shake this deep gut feeling that if Skull Kid gets in, it spells bad news for Shantae. I know, it literally makes no sense. I can't explain it--it's just a strange, even conspiracy-esque, gut feeling. I know that at any point, DLC is always an option. I know that Shantae has so many things potentially going for her (and I prefer her between the two, even though I like the idea of Skull Kid as well).

Logically, there shouldn't be any issues between the two. My head keeps telling me this, and I continue to follow it. My gut just keeps casting doubt. And for some reason it's just Skull Kid my gut can't get past. Not any of the others frequently tossed around like Isaac, Geno, or even Banjo.

In addition to not having Shantae in any of the indie fighting games? Yeah, that's a thing too. Tons of other arguably less-popular indie characters getting in those along with indie "heavy-hitters" like Shovel Knight. It's all part of the reason so many people here are suspecting a NDA.

Thats still kind of rude to all the fans who are left completely in the dark.

A complete 180 from the Sm4sh era, and their historical openness towards getting Shantae in other various indie projects (i.e. her being MIA in indie fighting games, but not other genres).

I'm still not sold on Skull kid. Yeah he's popular, but he was a villain in 1 Zelda game. Every other villain in this game so far has been in multiple games, and even all there heroes save ice climbers and duck hunt have appeared in multiple games. Skull kid I feel may be getting moved to a Boss for story mode.

Like I said, I can't quite explain it. Although, if I were to hazard a guess: it could be as petty as the whole possible "hints in Sakurai's office" thing. If that's the case, I really should pay no mind to it. Like if we're looking into the colors of the chairs/pillow, they can both match Skull Kid and Shantae.

But like I said, that's a rather petty and negligible thing to have a gut feeling about. That is, of course, assuming that's what my gut is "worked up" over.

Shifting gears a bit, I'm interested in the charagumin figures. Does anyone know how often American-made characters are presented in their line-up? Also, I really enjoy their glowing praise for the character:

I really wanted those figures as well, but apparently some of the pieces are really flimsy and will break off easily. Also, the assembly is a ton of work unless you're into that sort of thing.

So I think, as most of us here agree, it's guaranteed Shantae is in the game (or will be as DLC) in some form. It's just a matter of what that form will be.

Skull Kid wasn't much of a contender in the original ballot while Shantae was and the only reasons why he's getting traction now is because his AT hasn't been shown yet and the bandwagon effect. Don't get me wrong, I'd also like to see Skull Kid playable, but I think Shantae is just as likely.

The chairs and pillow could easily reference both of them and I fail to see why we couldn't have both.

you gotta admit having a purple and yellow chair next to each other stands out like crazy due to the color contrast. Im not even arguing in favor of them hinting to anything, but it does stick out.

Soonest we'll be finding out about Shantae will be the Nindie Direct. If not during that, then whatever those chairs mean will be revealed in the fall direct most likely, probably in mid September

The weird part about that tweet is, as one of the answer pointed out, how Matt Walker is also the guy who said DMC5 wasn't a thing, and yet...
But if the NDA for Smash is such tight that other developer (like WF) simply stopped altogether to answer any question regarding smash, that straight answer from him basically confirm that he's not under NDA.

But by the way, I still don't quite get how the original leaker get everything right about DMC5 trailer and decided to screw with smash fanbase with the supposedly fake Dante trailer.

Regarding Shantae, I noticed that I'm not on the supporter list, can I get added please?

I imagined the scene opening on Link (as all of them have started by focusing on one or more Nintendo icons most of which are killed). He’s walking carefully through Gerudo Desert or what appears to be that locale. He spots a nearby shrub rustling and approaches carefully before swinging his master sword leaving behind some rupees in its wake. He goes to pick them up but something is off about them. They are not the rupees he is used to, they are actually the ones found in Shantae’s games. Then something else catches his eye. A single strand of purple hair caught on his blade. That’s when Shantae jumps out and whips Link with her hair. They fight it out for a bit before Skull Kid appears, and then they team up to take him down.

Or maybe after every failed attempt at pranking Shantae, Skull Kid throws a huge tantrum and brings down the moon. The genie panics, not knowing what to do and out comes the Fierce Deity knocking Skull Kid off the screen like he would in-game and turns back into Young Link. He and Shantae then do a victory dance together with Kamaro's Mask equipped.

He has been the most popular Zelda newcomer since Brawl, and the only reason he wasn't featured much on the ballot is because he was an AT, Ridley also didn't score as high as he would on the ballot for the same reason. Sakurai knew of popular characters like Ridley and Little Mac before the ballot and he went to great lenghs in Skull Kid's AT reveal to say that he wasn't a character, he knows he is popular and Zelda is overdue for a new rep. Plus he hasn't been assist trophied yet and we haven't seen YL final smash.

It seems like he got a massive boost and he did, but he has always been a popular pick for the Zelda series.

I was thinking something different. I imagine the trailer opens with K. Rool's pirate ship opening fire on Scuttle Town. He laughs maniacally as a cannonball blasts through a lighthouse on the edge. His laughter stops when he notices a shadow growing, looking up to expect Donkey Kong, when an elephant hits the deck, scattering Kremlings everywhere. Shantae transforms and whips her hair out as the splash screen comes up: "Shantae is Ret-2-Go!"

Please....please let it happen.
