Funny thing is, the story of this supposed leak seems very plausible...but the leak itself doesn't. Real leaks never have this much detail, and just look at where the detail is. Very in-depth for the trailers and story mode, but "oh, and these characters are assist trophies."

The story mode also sounds stupid and he put Dixie as an echo.

A lot of fake leaks have a bunch of specifics.

I'm betting whatever ruffled Nintendo's feathers is an image leak, as there's tons of text "leaks" with the same characters and other stuff.

I wouldn't pay that any mind. That "leak" looks designed to counter vergeben. As in Decidueye being playable and making a point to say Incineroar is a pokeball pokemon. I'm not saying I believe vergeben, but i also don't think the EXACT opposite of what he is saying will happen either.

Also, insisting that the mode won't be called Spirits seems pretty silly since people have been able to "decensor" the blurred out name. So either they just changed the name, and it's little logo, or they made something fake and blurred it out to send people down the wrong trail. Neither of which makes sense.

Lastly, any leak including Shantae as an Assist just doesn't make sense. Shovel Knight has shown us that there are no restrictions on assist trophies participating in other Smash-esque fighting games. So if Shantae was an assist then the reason she isn't in Blade Strangers and Rivals of Ether would have to be not Smash related, which doesn't make sense. I see no reason why Matt and WF would refuse to allow her in a game with as polished and art design as Blade Strangers if they weren't legally bound to refuse.

Leakers want your attention and they try to make good sounding ones if they can.

I've been thinking, about the many ways light and dark have been portrayed in video games. For sanity's sake I'll keep it to Nintendo's most notable examples.

Twilight Princess: The races affiliated with either are by and large neutral, each as capable of evil as the other.
Fire Emblem: Light & Dark magic have no inherent nature; light requires faith and dark requires the desire for knowledge. The latter can be dangerous for one's mental health, but the other can make you obliviously evil too.
Metroid Prime 2: Fitting the sci-fi nature, Light is matter (the generation of which produces intense heat) and Dark is anti-matter (freezes things via the lack of temperature). Mixing them together results in destructive force. Being as we exist as beings and in a universe of matter dark energy is naturally more harmful to "light creatures". The Ing, creatures of darkness, are evil more due to Phazon corruption than due to their anti-matter nature.

Which brings me to Shantae. Dark magic in this universe seems very similar to Phazon in that it grants great destructive power, but warps your mind and body in addition to having a drive to spread itself (which it passes to whatever it infects). Light magic by comparison seems much more passive. granting more modest, subtle power without affecting the wielder too much. Maybe if you're a being of pure magic it drives you to act altruistically.

Well if this is true the original source of this rumor came from someone who suposedly vaguely hinted one day before Cloud was revealed as DLC using starwars references to leak Cloud.

Anyway I saw this on the Isaac thread this morning and it comes from the same leaker I mentioned above acording to him its infact a leaked image thats floating around that is rufflling Nintendo's feathers and its not the ken one.

I just came home from work so I don't know how much of this story has changed or updated.

These people aren't leakers, and calling them that gives them more dignity than they deserve. They are not intelligent or well-informed enough to be leakers, but then again, there are no intelligent leakers, because being a leaker is inherently an incredibly stupid thing to do. Being a leaker entails taking the massive risk of losing one's job for no actual reward other than notoriety on the Internet, which does absolutely nothing to improve one's quality of life and therefore is not actually a reward; anybody with even the slightest ounce of common sense knows this to be true. The people who create the "leaks" flooding the Internet in these months are rumormongers who have a childish craving for attention, and therefore pretend to be leakers in a laughable attempt to look like intelligent, worthwhile, important, noteworthy who deserve attention. Given that "intelligent" and "willing to risk one's job to release information that would be released anyway in a few months for the sake of being talked about online" are mutually exclusive qualities, I have to question why we pay any attention to these rumormongers.

(I had a much sicker and better thought-out burn going, but I accidentally clicked "live streams" instead of "italicize" and lost it... TLDR: These fake leakers make fake leaks in an attempt to appear intelligent, educated, and worthy of attention because they aren't educated, smart, or mature enough to realize that being a leaker is very stupid and immature. Genuine leakers are next to completely nonexistent because they have a lot to lose and nothing to gain.)

Hey peeps. I've been pretty much a silent lurker here for a month or two and I've been spending my time gauging both Shantae and her most dedicated fans to see if she was something I wanted to get behind. I'll admit, my first impressions of her were not the best. I thought her and her gaggle of friends were just fan-service drivel, BUT I am happy to say I was wrong. After playing all of her games, I found them to be a lot of fun and overflowing with charm and plenty of replay value. I think that Shantae would be a perfect addition to smash. After all, who doesn't like rooting for an underdog?

With these being the last few weeks before the roster is inevitably leaked, I'd like to be on the right side of history and officially proclaim my support for Shantae! Please, add me to the supporter list!

I'd say some announcement is being made there, I think they said that if you went to the event you weren't allowed to take pictures, stream, or record. But, I have no idea why they'd reveal something in a Canadian bar of all places. We'll know in due time anyway...

I will note there's a tendency for "benchmarks", so to speak, to be broken with new fighters. The most obvious is the "longest fsmash". First they boasted about Shulk's being really long, then it was upstaged by Corrin and then (s)he got upstaged in turn by Simon/Richter.

Of course it could also mean they have something more elegant like my "move power-up" dances suggestion in mind...
