Remember, this has absolutely zero impact on Shantae's chances. So please don't get discouraged that she didn't show up today.

I don't trust any leaker, if my Signature is enough an indication. That being said, though, at least I can say for certain that Shantae's still in the running. Though the bigger "bosses" here are respectable people, like Banjo-Kazooie, Skull Kid, Isaac, Geno, among more neat characters, we'll dance that dance when the time comes!

This is still 1 unique newcomer, so it's not that far off from what we expected.
I think seeing her as an echo makes it seem like less, or maybe because it wasn't one of the top contenders.

But some people expected a joke or silly character. this is better than those.
I'm disappointed, but I also think there's some good stuff to enjoy about it.

As disappointed as I am, there were still some positive things that came out of that direct. Luigi's Mansion 3, Katamari, Final Fantasy, Animal Crossing and of course a newcomer to Smash!

I didn't mind it too much, yes there could have been more, but it was good for what it was.

Oh, FFS. Can we stop treating Vergaben's word as gospel just because he's been coasting on some easy guesses since E3? Do not trust any leaker, especially one that can't even make up their mind. Leaks are dumb.

Let's remember that he had no idea about K Rool, yet we got K Rool. He had no idea about Richter, but we got Richter. Even if we give him the benefit of the doubt, which we shouldn't, he still doesn't know everything.

No.

Geno may technically be owned by Square but I'd say he's more of a Mario character anyway. After all he cameoed in another Mario RPG not developed by Square.

First off, Isabelle looks adorable. I never liked the villager just because blank slate protagonists kinda annoyed me in Smash 4. What makes those characters the most fun is getting to customize them to fit you, but in Smash you had to make do with a few presets which kinda defeated the purpose. But with Isabelle, we get a real character with her own personality and everything. Here is hoping her alts are all her cute costumes from New leaf.

As for Shantae, I wasn't really expecting her for this one. When she is revealed. It will kind of be a big deal being the first indie playable, and as such it seemed like there would need to be a little explanation from Sakurai as to why she was selected. So that kind of detail is something that would need to happen in a direct dedicated to Smash.

Another reason why I don't trust Vergaben is because he's sketchy and can't commit to anything. Even if we are to trust him, he doesn't know everything. So I hope people stop taking him so seriously.

Loz18 has lost even more credibility. He was so sure Skull Kid was going to be revealed today.

I don't think a general Nintendo Direct was the right place for Shantae anyway. There will be one or two more Smash Directs between now and December, so we shouldn't fret. She'll be revealed then if she's in.

Also remember that if she's not in the base roster (or deconfirmed as an assist trophy), then there's a very likely chance she'll be DLC.
