Yeah, I definitely don't want that. Crash I would be ok with (and only mildly at that) but the other two I have no attachment to. if that "leak" turned out to be true I would basically be done with Smash DLC

To each their own. For me Shantae has been going strong in recent years while Crash had a long period of nothing but mediocrity. Yes he has had a resurgence, but there is no telling how long that will last before Activision gets too Activision with him. Plus their parent companies are polar opposites when it comes to which I like to support and which I don't.

I would rather see Crash playable then as a Mii just because his body type doesn't really fit with a Mii build too well. By which I mean how he doesn't really have a neck and his upper body is more or less triangular, like the Warner Bros Tasmanian Devil. Speaking of which, both of them being based on Australian animals, having similar body types, wild personalities and a propensity for spinning when the actual animals they are based on have no such habit... We know that Croc was meant to be a Yoshi game, but when Nintendo didn't agree they just made it into an original character... I doubt that's the case since Crash was originally owned by Universal, so they would have no reason to want to make a game from a WB character... But maybe when being asked to design a character for Universal, Naughty Dog took inspiration from Taz.

I wouldn't protest that, but if that one leak about Crash, KOS-MOS and Remui were true, then Shantae wouldn't be getting in. So my point isn't to tear down Crash, rather to say that I personally hope that one leak is not true.

Like I said, I feel that the character that could end Shantae's chances of being a fighter is KOS-MOS due to her not being on the 4chan character list and that her presence would give credence to that 5chan "leak" you're talking about. All we can hope for is that the next fighter is from that list.

I'm not too worried about KOS-MOS. I feel when it comes to Nintendo suggesting characters, they wouldn't say "A Monolith rep" and then leave it up to them to pick which. I think they would more likely say "A Xenoblade rep" tho honestly I think they would far more likely name the Xenoblade character in particular they wanted.

Nintendo might have been more loose about which Arms character got in because they knew that tho Springman was technically thr main character, that he was one of the less popular members of the game. Much like how they let the Pokemon Company suggest which pokemon should be featured they might have deferred to the Arms' team's judgement. However with Xenoblade it's much easier to see which characters are both more important in the games and more popular with the fans, so I think their suggestion in that regard would be more specific.

Well, I still believe in Shantae being likely even though others might not. I still think it's suspicious that WayForward is pumping out all of this Shantae merchandise out of nowhere as well as being able to make Seven Sirens and other recents games of theirs without a Kickstarter campaign.

For me, Shantae is most likely going to be a part of FP9 if she's in. Maaaybe FP10. I'm doubtful of FP11 though. Let me walk you through a timeline I made up in my head while I was having fun speculating. Spoiler'd so that it doesn't take up too much space for those who aren't interested in reading.

Spoiler: My speculation

I feel that Covid may have pushed the DLC release schedule back by a couple months. Meaning that Min Min may have originally meant to have been shown off earlier in the year around the time that they announced the next fighter would be an ARMS character. Would probably be around that time that Sakurai and his team would've been having to acclimate to working from home and the new protocols they needed to follow, and I could see Nintendo giving them some leeway in doing so by moving the DLC release schedule back.

A lot of us speculate that Steve was originally meant to be the E3 newcomer reveal. I would go even further and propose that both Steve and Sephiroth may have been revealed back to back at E3, similarly to Hero and Banjo the previous year. Would make a lot of sense as it would appeal to a wide market of players, and it would've featured the same companies being Square and Microsoft. And of course they would've released some months later.

I think FP9 could've been revealed in September mirroring Terry's reveal in September the previous year, which was also a character from a new company to Smash. A reveal in September would've lined up very well with Wayforward putting up all the preorders for Shantae's library on Switch, and would've only been a few months after Seven Sirens' release. Like how Sephiroth's theoretical reveal at E3 would've only been a couple months after FFVII Remake's release.

I know that Smash reveals don't always try to line up with what's going on in a character's specific franchise, but sometimes they do. And if Shantae is in then it would've been a smart thing to do to try and push the franchise on Switch as much as possible for marketing purposes by lining up the character reveal as best they could with all the recent releases considering she's from a smaller franchise.

Of course this is all just speculation on my part and I could be off the mark, but I'm just sharing my thoughts because I feel there are still reasons to be hopeful for her potential inclusion. Combined with Wayforward's continued silence on the topic, all the Shantae games and merch this past year, and the fact that Nintendo even acknowledged Shantae at all in Smash shows they they consider it an important enough franchise to feature in the game in some form. Even going so far as to feature her Spirit in the trailer and give her an icon for playing online. Could be a subtle way to help spread awareness of the character's existence without making it seem too obvious that they were considering the character for a playable role later.

Ignoring the ordering being wrong and ID software already saying they haven’t been approached by Nintendo about Smash DLC, it says Min Min AND Ninjara. Remember that this was back when people were swearing up and down that the ARMS rep would be a ‘multiple characters as costumes’ situation while ignoring their abilities not lining up with one another. As for knowing the two being mentioned by Sakurai in his stream, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - they were the winner and runner up of the Party Crash Bash, and there’s no way that didn’t influence them being the playable rep and Mii fighter costume.

It’s just another random 4chan post.

No no, not Ninjala, the multiplayer game, NinJARA, the ninja character from ARMS. He was the runner up for the Party Crash Bash and one of the Mii costumes that came with Min Min.

It’s an easy mistake to make given how close the names are! I kept calling Ninjala as Ninjara since I played a lot of ARMS.

Off topic but I'd just like to say that I hope everyone has the chance to be as happy as Miyamoto looked when he was giving that tour of Super Nintendo World. It's really inspiring to think he has been in the industry for so long, and been considered a legend and visionary for most of that time, and yet he still has that sprite-like spark of excitement for creating. It would be so easy for someone with his level of success and acclaim to just stop caring and take a back seat while collecting paychecks, but watching him walkaround in that world he really looked like a kid who made all his dreams become reality.

Hey guys I got a question about different voice languages during COVID, so not sure how many of us realised this but you know how Sakurai said something about can’t get an english voice for characters like the crowd cheering for Steve, Alex, Zombie and Enderman? It’s only Japanese. Not sure about Sephiroth’s voice but he’s only Japanese too like Cloud of course. Not sure if it’s about a different reasons like Cloud’s only-Japanese voice but Sephiroth does have an English voice in Final Fantasy 7 REMAKE if it’s an english version. So here‘s a question even know my hopes are low about Shantae in Smash as DLC, if Shantae gets in Smash as DLC, will we get her new random english voice by Cristina Vee herself or a current voice back in Pirate’s Curse or HGH days she used before it’s COVID and it’ll be really hard to deliver them to Japan?

So Shantae, whose name is the same in Japan as it is in English, and has no complicated legal matters surrounding what language she speaks, should not be affected at all by anything. And I’m not sure where Covid comes into this, but audio files can be sent digitally, which is why voiceover work can still be done remotely during the pandemic; voiceover delays like one that took place during Fire Emblem Heroes for one character is more about actor availability.

Oh ok. Sorry if that confused you. I was asking about since COVID is around, I just realised when I heard Japanese crowd cheering for Steve and Alex in English version of Smash while it’s still the month of COVID, I just wondered if it’s going to be difficult to pick up different voice language for any future characters from overseas to Japan for Masahiro Sakurai to work on each fighters but I see about sending voice files from West to Japan for different regions in the mail on the computer or something. That‘s easier than being that close.

While I couldn't find the last nugget I needed for 100% after spending a couple of hours searching for it, I finally finished Seven Sirens. I thought it was a pretty fun time and I think it definitely takes some steps in the right direction by returning to a proper Metroidvania style and revamping how transformations work, but the nonexistent difficulty and somewhat bland level design hold it back from being great, IMO. I also think hiding a bunch of the collectibles behind the Seer ability was a really dumb decision.

Sorry if that confused you. I mean since it’s COVID between West and Japan while Nintendo Japan and Sakurai is still working on the last 3 DLC fighters and some of them need voices from their original games, is It difficult to send the English version for one character to Japan for other languages depending you lived in the West or Japan? Because while it was COVID, we had Japanese crowd for cheering Steve, Alex, Enderman, Zombie and Sephiroth so I was wondering about Shantae’s inclusion for her western voice towards Japanese version. Sorry I’m trying to get you to know what I mean.
