That's kind of unnecessary. While I'm sure many people here play Street Fighter (among other games), this is a forum primarily for the Smash Brothers series of games. Catering towards everything else that everyone might play here would be going overboard.

Sheilda forum would be so unnecessary imo. You have all of Sheik's info in one forum, and all of Zelda's in another. If you wanted to explore Sheilda, just make a Sheilda THREAD in each separate forum, where you could discuss the merits of switching to one or the other.

A Sheilda postbit icon would be nice though. :3c

What's the purpose of the original proposal? I can't see the point in making a dedicated Sheilda board without removing the Sheik and Zelda boards, since it would lead to a lot of redundancy. However, at that point it mixes discussion of two characters, which strictly reduces proper categorization. The "increased activity" is an illusion as well, since it's really just taking the people from two different character boards and telling them to post in a single one. If anything, it just adds workload and clutter with no truly perceptible benefit. Except maybe reducing two social threads to one.

If there were some way to make a Sheilda thread that could be accessed from both boards, it'd be a perfect solution.

I tried to do something like that, but it doesn't look like there's a way to truly set it up. : \

Making a thread in one room, move it to the other and keep a permanent redirect should do it.

I tried that exact method, but recent posts don't bump it in the forum that only has the permanent redirect.

If the thread was stickied pre-move, afaik the rediret stays up.

I was just thinking about how players get into Smash, and how to get more players into it. This was after I'd just gotten done searching for players in my state on AiB. I realized that out of about 250 registered users in my state, only about 8 of them actually use the site. When i looked further, I noticed that the Regional Zone thread (which I made) had long since died, and there was no official place for players in my area to congregate there. It's no wonder so many of them stopped using that site.

Then I considered my own experience. I didn't really start using this site until I started meeting more players, and the main reason I come here is to talk to local players. I remember a few years ago, I noticed a user in general Brawl discussion who'd listed his location as my state, and I redirected him to our regional zones thread. That guy has become one of our biggest tournament hosts.

That's when I thought, "Smashboards should do this itself." It should redirect the hundreds of users who want to get into this game to the place where they can interact with local smashers. Because players tend to get more interested in the game when they can actually meet other players and participate in tournaments. As of now, the site doesn't do a great job of helping players find local players. The name "Regional Zones" doesn't immediately scream "Find players and tournaments near you," and it is listed under the average user's only interest, the General Brawl Discussion. The Info tab does a slightly better job, but is too general of a name to be a place that people will look at first.

The Suggestion
Somewhere on the homepage there needs to be a section called "Find Players and Tournaments Near You". It needs to be noticeable, and be one of the first things that users see. This should then redirect to a list of states, which, when clicked, will redirect to an official state topic.

Seriously.

It took me about a week on this site before I realized "regions" existed.

Small character icon smilies are now implemented, because I figured I'd do something with them.

I'll look into the phone icon thing now.

It doesn't have to be facebook or a popularity contest. But it would be nice to be able to give positive feedback on posts with either a "like" or a "+1" or a "thumbs up" or maybe SWF can make up its own type of positive feedback like "Show Me Your Moves" (possibly with a "You're Too Slow!" negative feedback).

I'm not a big fan of giving negative feedback. Leads to trolling, and I'd rather encourage good contributions than discourage bad ones.

I agree with that, but it sounded funny. Basically, I just want to be able to thumbs up posts or something. Especially when young posters post something good.

I like that idea as well. not the rep system but simply saying nice post. or useful info etc.

or maybe even instead of visibly showing a plus 1 to everyone, only mods and the poster can see it. that way you don't get the pole jock wave. maybe even be able to write a sentence or two what made it a good post. similar to..report post, but positive feedback post.

I would be fine with a positive feedback only system as well.

Thumbs up/like system is fine, even with everyone viewing it. Its not like anyone really cares if a post hits X positive feedback. It would give incentive for people to post good contributions and people could easily skim for quality posts.

its fine. I just would rather it not be stupid. aka some known player says something and ppl just thumbs up.

"lmao, get ***** noob" just cuz like kage or somebody said it.

imo it would be better if it was only visible to the person who posted and serve the same purpose...thats just my 2 cents tho.
