The organizers are definitely looking to make money with these tournaments. The last minute venue fee was obvious, and the half-@ssed attempt at a Street Fighter 4 tournament made it even more obvious (trying to claim the SMASH ALLIANCE is a circuit is for all fighting games wtf). They need to lower their fees or learn how to lie better.
