Yo I am soooooo there. I second the $5 entry fee lol. Also, I can't make it on Sunday at all, so I rlly rlly rlly prefer saturdays because I think it'll be easier from now on for everyone to have it on a Saturday. It's up to the San's, but I think Saturday is most convenient to everyone.

Also, anyone seen the Juggernaut movie remake? It's just waaaay too funny. I'll show everyone on Saturday. I MUST show you all this.

I'm probably not entering if there's an entry fee. Just a heads up. Seems kind of pointless to me...

EDIT: It occurs to me that I should probably explain my reasoning on this.

We're all friends here, and I think we have a pretty good idea as to the heirarchy of skill. Nobody in the group really has anything to prove, so I don't see why money even has to be an issue. If we're going to look at these little get-togethers as an opportunity to train, I don't see why we can't get the same experience without putting a price on it (obviously, this doesn't work so well in practice).

I think charging entry fee to this would be equivalent to me inviting a friend over to my house to play and then challenging him to a money match.

That's just my two cents.

I'd agree in part Dave; but the truth of the matter is people aren't going to learn anything without the events being at least semi serious. Few players try in friendlies, and it gets frustrating to get worse at the game because I get too used to screwing around in smash. Lets face it, people are not going to try in the tournament if money isn't on the line. It's really not enjoyable to fight someone in a tournament when you know full well they could care less if they win or lose. I for one want to fight people when they're trying, and that won't be the case unless some money is on the line.

I think kyle is right, in my first match I was playing with shminkledorf, who I'm friends with/have played with before, and I didn't take it as seriously as I should have

I sympathize, but I find the fact that we can't play seriously without money on the line to be quite frustrating.

I was just voicing my opinion. I would be naive to expect anybody to agree with me or even listen to me, but I don't see why I should have pay to play a game I enjoy with people whom I consider friends.

Lol well I for one am obviously listening to you, so its not naive to think people won't listen to what you say or will disagree.

I agree its frustrating people can't play seriously without money, but thats simply the way things are. People won't try their hardest unless something is on the line. Pride can often be on the line to players too, but not many are inspired to try hard by pride anymore. This is the way of the world I suppose.

its also annoying as **** when ill lose to people in a friendly and theyll immediately be like "stop sandbagging against me" , like i should mysteriously do better than i did in the match.

Here is my thoughts on this money idea.

First of all money shouldn't even be an issue if people really want to become good. If you want to become good you have to train yourself mentally, puting money on the line is a good idea however its not what i call neccessary. If you put money on the line then you're telling yourself that you are already good and ready to show off what you got. This mean your not trying to become good by putting up money, your trying to win money cause you think your more superior. In otherword your trying to steal money, which is bad among friends. You hardly ever see me pick on anybody and win free money do you? i don't think so i only mm match people that talk too much shiet and they think they are cocky. I never go over to scrub or anybody and ask them to money match me cause its free money. If i want to play them ill ask if they say no, ill walk away if they say sure we play. If someone ask me to play them i won't deny it scrub or pro, but if you ask me to money match then i say i suck you don't want to play me or take my money.

The only time i'll play for money is compete in the tourny were i can test my skills and see where I stand among the greats. I don't only play tourny for the money but also the experience, and analyze diff. player talant.

Remember if you playing for money your not trying to learn or train yourself to become better, but you are trying to pick on newbie or trying to make extra money with your current skill.

A good player will learn how to become good by training thier mind. Some people who can't do good l canceling or wave dashing, however he can win good games with just basic mind game. Keep that in mind

What i mean by training your mind is because you can never master a game with just technical skill alone, remember everybody can do what you can do, but what seperate them from the best is who is better mentally. Remember you can master the techniques, but you can never master the minds. The mind is endless its what make the smarter more superior.

If anybody here what to become good, and not rich then I can help you train the correct way and be a better player then a cocky player.

As for people not playing serious because they not playing for anything is because they don't understand or know how to train themself mentally. like going to school or studying in college you must have a goal, you must have someone better the train with to help guide you in area where you have trouble. In order to do that you have to ask yourself what is it that your not doing that he is doing.

This is what i keep on telling people if you want to become good you must struggle. If I see them struggling with something regardless the situation, then i know they are improving dramatically. When i see people just messing around or show sign if they are not trying or care to listen, and keep on doing the same thing they already know then they are not improving.

If you have two people one just graduate from high school with a 3.0 gpa and won't be attending college cause he don't need to.

and the other one graduate from high school with a 2.0 gpa however he want to continue on to college and is willing to struggle his way through.

If you ask yourself which one will succeed. Then almost everybody would think the one that goes to college is most likey to win the bet, and your right on that one. However there're a diff. % rate that you must understand before you judge the situation.

The one is a 3.0 is great he got to be smart if he pass with that gpa. However to think your already good and and your better then most, then he is making a big gamble in life. Only
10% will succeed, 30% will suicide, and %60 can live average life. Among those catagory he will most likey fall into the 60%. People that think they are great can only go so far then they get stuck somewhere.

As for the one that goes to college, he's willing to take the next step and ready to go through any hardship to become better. This is a type of people you consider great and promising no matter how you see it, he will evenually reach his goal and always setting new one, because the hieghts is endless. If you reach a mountain you want to reach a higher one. after you succeed, the sky is next, then the moon, then the planets, then the solo system, so on so forth. It seem imposible but its been done and proving so think of the mind is endless you can never reach it 100% everything is unlimited.

Unknownforce if you want to know why you want to become better and yet you still mess around sometime, and you don't know why then here's your answer. You must train your mind or yourself to think in a positive way.

You want to set a goal, example. I want to be a good edge guarder. When you play anybody scrub or pro you must not think of them as players weak or better. You must tell yourself that you playing them so you can learn how to edge guard good, you're willing to lose and try things while acheiving that goal. Winning and Losing is not an options, if your winning so what? does that mean you know how to edge guard good? or if you are messing around with quick kill and doing stupid things ask yourself does that helping your learn? to me no, by doing stupid things and trying to get quick kill is not trying to become good your putting yourself at risk for the unthinkable and thats not good.

If you lose you know your learning cause when you lose you are trying to figure out what it is you are trying to acheive or learn. When you get a hang of it or reaching your goal then winning come natural. Then you set new goal, learning basic mind games, and so on and so forth.

When you guys play friendlies with me and you see me losing, don't think i'm not serious. I take that to my advantage and use you guys as my training partner. I take things seriously when i play friendlies or tournament. Thats why i'm as good as i am now, maybe not the best but i'm good at what i do.

Guess thats it for me **** i can go all day with this. however i won't :p
So if you want to better don't put money on the line put your mind to work. remember money come and go skill come and stay.

Peace outz

I think it's safe to say that that was the longest post we've ever had in this thread.

Also, I agree with Savath completely. The only way to get better is to want to get better, regardless of what you stand to gain for it.

Holy crap.. Eve posted?! Thats nuts!!

But yes Savath your points are as always good ones.. It was never my intent to make money, but rather my wish for people to be serious during these events so we can consider them real tournaments and a somewhat accurate account of the skill in the MA/RI/CT area.

It's already been said, but lemme throw my two cents in...

It's been my experience that if people don't put money in, then they don't play seriously (most of the time). Personally, I play the same way ALL the time, never sandbagging...that's the only way I feel I can improve. $5 is cheap...and if you don't want to pay...then don't. Still come out and play friendlies...that's how my smashfests used to go. But I can guarantee that you won't learn as much.

See you guys Saturday. I'm headed for Boston tomorrow morning.

Lol at Eve. First time I ever saw you on the boards lol. Welcome!

Now, KrazyJones, I can agree with your comments about the whole improvement factor, but I don't think Money Matches are as bad as you think it is. It isn't rlly stealing at all if your playing scrubs or whatnot because it's a mutual agreement to have a money match. It's not like I'm having a gun to their head and say "you better MM me you friggen n00b". If they reject the money match, then I'll just move on. You see me money match people like Zanguzan, PC Chris, Isai, M2K, etc. not because I'm confident to win but because I want to be fair to everyone and not just money match n00bs. Also, I like to gamble, and obviously gambling takes money, so it's like gambling. If you don't like money matches, don't go to casinos or play poker because then you are being a hypocrite. I'm sry if I offended you KJ if I money matched you, but you got to realize that I do this to everyone because MM's is just what I do. I don't got a JOB LOL11 and not everyone has the same mindset when they money match. There'll still be mm's going on whether you like it or not. Besides, you learn faster when money is on the line. It may not be true for you Krazy Jones, but you got to realize that everyone thinks differently. It would be a utopia if everyone thought the same way, but also, it'd be **** boring as well. That's why mind games exist. If everyone has the same mindgame, then the game would be too boring and unoriginal. People think differently, thus creating different mindgames.

Just adding my bit for a change.

No one said MMs were bad DJ. I think they're trying to say that if you have the will to get better, then you will give it you're all. A person who doesn't play serious when there is no money on the line just shows that they are confident in their ability and that they will only play serious when money is on the line. But what if you lose? All of a sudden, that confidence is all gone. I mm'ed a few people and i lost them all. I was confident, but lost. That just motivates me to get better. I know you are an amazing player DJ, and it shows that you are very confident in your ability. Also, i suck...XD

Stfu RawSex and Money match me...............lol jk.

Alright, I was just a bit heated and wanted to start a debate, yet I seem to suck at that...yeah....I hate debates.

Alright, I might bring a friend or two, but most likely it'll be myself.

And I always have a blast looking at the advertisements up at the top of the page:

"Looking for Bros Mario Super? Click here!"

And I must show you the Juggernaut tomorrow. I must. It's almost as great as the Link cartoon LOL.

aight dj mm is mm i didn't say it is bad or good. My point is you don't get better by putting money on the line to make thing more serious. If you want to play serious player so you can improve then go to big tourny and try to win it. Then you will find serious player who are trying to do the same thing you are trying to do. If you think playing without anything on the line is boring then that just what i want to point out to people. Learning how to accept the boring nature of the competition is one must learn to aquire.

Almost everybody think school is boring and if they can skip it they will. Some might even try to sleep through class or not doing their homework. These are boring aspect and as a kid we like to have fun find things to do, make things exciting for ourself. However why must we go to school everybody know from their parents its because knowledge is the future. As youngsters we must obtain those knowledge one way or the other.

People go to school for a reason to obtain the knowledge right, however its boring and that course many peoples to quit or choose the wrong path cause its boring. ask yourself this why do some people luv to go to school and some don't? the answer is simple the people that like school doesnt really like it he was force to go and he must train himself to like it one way or the other. Its the hardest thing to do is to learn how to luv doing thing that is boring to you, however if you know it benefit you then why not learn to luv it?

For people who think its boring and just go to it for the heck of it, hardly knows or learn anything, and thus he wasted his time for nothing. After he pay the price, and relearn thing the hard way.

learning how to play with a scrub all day is boring, however to me i can beat them all day and still have fun while i will learn a lot from them and they learn from me. So the benefit goes both way. To them they might think its exciting to play someone better and they can improve faster that way. To a better player you won't learn or improve if you think its boring beating on him all day and you play him cause he beg you.

my final words is if you are going to play, then learn to love it, if you dont then dont play at all your wasting time.

jesus lol see what i mean if you don't get bored writing all these junks then look at it, another junk post that can go on and on. However i will quit right now.

Peace
