This is where experience comes into play. When some douchebags say they got ESPN and REDBULL coming, and you've never heard of the host... it's bull****.

When the venue is at Dave and Busters, a place that has NEVER EVER had a non shady smash tournament... it's bull****.

If you feel a tournament may be bull****, do your best to contact the Host through aim.
1. If he's never on, it's bull****
2. If he doesn't respond, it's bull****
3. If he tries to tell YOU how it is, when it isn't. It's bull****
4. If he has more than 2 X's in his screen name, it's bull****.
5. If he says they are hosting other non smash tournaments, and the guy you are speaking to doesn't work for MLG, it's bull****.

Learn your lessons people. Unless these guys are master con artists, there's no reason for one to have driven out 5 hours to this piece of **** unless you had no other tournament to go to.

Well Hack was just mainly responsible for the advertising for the tourney. That is why most people mix him up as the Host. Sweet tooth was the man who got the venue and everything else. What really is accountable for this tourney singles fail was D&B. They double booked. They didnt allow everyone to just rush in and sign in. I heard they even jacked up the price or the room.

all good dude ya so far the sd tournies weve been to have turned out to be really bad. but than again, the two weve been to were hosted by dreamhack who is straight ****in up. so were just gonna stop goin to dreamhacks tournies. we might go to sd for other tournies, if good tourney organizers are gonna hold it (i.e azn lep or rickity). So, not SD's fault, dreamhack and daves fault.

the first gamers universe went well because Rickety ran the bracket and i supervised and called matches.
the second one, i didn't go to but heard it was switched to single elim. and turned out to be pretty much garbage.

It was dreamhack's tournament so he is completely responsible for everything that went wrong. With that said, it is his responsibility to straighten out everything in regards to the missing money. Since no one who entered singles has been refunded, and the singles bracket didn't finish, he needs to get the money and refund or pay for it out of his own pocket. If you take on the responsibility of hosting a tournament, then anything that goes wrong comes out of your pocket, plain and simple.

I heard he wasn't even there half the time, which is completely unacceptable.

The issue of people getting in who were under 21, i addressed in the thread earlier in the week, and got the response they'd be escorted in. These things should have been figured out way before the venue was even booked.
If you are going to post that you are holding a tournament, you CAN NOT depend on someone else to book the venue, run the tournament, monitor the money. No matter what this dane guy did (which is all pretty f'd up), dreamhack is responsible and needs to not only admit to screwing up (which he already did) but needs to straighten out this missing money issue immediately.

And dreamhack, you also need to explain why ESPN wasn't there.

That said, I'm hella glad I didn't spend $80 to take the train to this like i was planning to.

worst pos tourny ever LOL

all of the things that went wrong could have been prevented and/or avoided and even though this would have been my 5th tournament i can safely say that this really was the worst tournament ever.
no venue fee was mentioned before the tourney (kinda shady, no?)
i had to ask some random lady to let me in with her (totaly preventable if there was no age restriction)
inside there was no real buffet like everyone expected which was gone in 5 minutes (preventable with keeping people w/o a meal ticket out)
tournament started late (age restriction kept everyone out, but then again i heve never been to a tourney that starts on time )
my team was dq'ed because we didnt hear our name over all the people and noise (you could have used the sound system in that room or at least a megaphone)
singles turns into single elimination (tourney did not start on time and the wedding that appeared aout of nowhere)
we get moved out (check the schedule and book the room for a time that would let you finish the tourney and get some friendlies in at the end)
dane selling E (for "teh lulz" which were needed)

at least i met some cool new people thats the only upside to this tourney
hack just dump dane for these things a lot of the smashers have experience running these things so you have a good team of experienced organizers and oats who can yell and be heard a mile away idk why you havent come to them for help or stuff.
you just cant pull out a tourney out of thin air like a wedding rehearsal lol

Nezumi's right. If Dreamhack says he takes full responsibility, he needs to take FULL RESPONSIBILITY. I forgot that ESPN was supposed to be there. and all this missing money, wtf was that about? Dane told Ripn and I that because we couldnt continue the rest of the tourney at D&B, that they would refund him the money for the extra hours we didnt use and he would give the winning teams the refunded money evenly (60 30 10), but he didnt. Hack owes us money


On a side note, when are the videos going to be posted from this tourney?

Imma come out and say that this was a complete waste of time and money!!!! I want to also say that Rickety, Azn Lep, and Havok had absolutely nothing to do with this tournament so please don't go off and think that they were involved in this because they indeed weren't! Next, for those that went to the tournament could tell you that it was indeed one GREAT BIG SH*T STORM after another! A number of things went wrong one right after the other! I feel terrible for what had happened but I take FULL RESPONSIBILITY for everything that happened! I blame myself for trusting Dane and for believe that he had everything squared away. You can point the finger and say it was Dane's fault, My fault, or D&B fault, but again, I take full responsibility for what happened! I hope this doesn't leave a sour taste in your mouth and make you think that SD is terrible at hosting tourneys cause we really don't. We had countless problems which ultimately made this tournament a complete failure, and for that I agologize! I hope everyone can Forgive and Forget and I sure as HELL hope you don't hold all of SD accountable for this because its not their fault.... Like I said Blame me not them!!! I hope to see all of you around at any other future tournies here in SD!

But people stop spreading Bull sh*t rumors that are not even remotely true! Me and Dane are not f*cking con artist or none of that sh*t and we didn't go off and split the money and leave DSF & Ajax nothing!
