this isn't brawl, planking is not an indomitable position

you shouldn't be looking for 'minor victories' or 'not the worst spot', although i guess it's a decent thing to take up time if you've just been shocked or lost your nerve in a match
Samus vs Fox isn't really a great matchup for her, so if you insist on playing it (I have a friend that very much does), then finding ways to avoid laser damage for a while and gain composure helps. He still can't figure out how to beat them. :( It gets really sad.

EDIT: For clarity, I do attribute some of it to the fact that he isn't the greatest player. I have better control and mindgames overall, but he isn't terrible by any means.

EDIT 2: I'm guessing I know the answer to this but I want to ask in-case I am unaware of certain shine properties or probably the possible angles. If I ran off the ledge as Fox and fastfell into a shine that reflected Samus against the wall, would they be able to DI that wallbounce high and get above me? Is it possible to perform or are they likely to catch a lower part of the Dreamland stage and the angle of the wall prevents them from DIing up and in properly to get above the ledge, causing a stagespike instead? It would be pretty hype.

planking is more like melee planking than brawl planking

like, it's probably safe to get your bearings, take a breath, maybe wait out the invincibility

but it's probably punishable if you give them all the time in the world

samus is OK at it but watch out

Planking was mad useful to avoid hammers in the item team matches I was playing last night

But then LD ran off the edge and sacrificed his stock to kill my last one, that mother****er

I mean obviously they're not the same boom

but you can chill out a little on the edge with some characters and be sorta safe

I like it at least

Can't you do this with Pika?
I was thinking the same, but I'm pretty sure that the invincibility is not like it is in Melee. Sheik has an interesting up-b that lets her disappear and the ledge invincibility lasts longer in the game so you can like... let go with something like 10 frames left and up-b in time to basically sweetspot the ledge and start all over. It's pretty tight. Pika is more vulnerable by a fair bit, I think.

*waits to be corrected* :)

your invincibility goes away as soon as you leave the ledge in 64

in melee it lasts 60 frames regardless

but yes, pika can up-B stall

He definitely has at least 2 frames vulnerability, right? (1 frame of let go and 1 frame of jump)

The rare instances where she's just short of being able to follow up a combo without it. Like say you land a bair and your opponent is flying left on Hyrule and will be landing on the left side, just past the main platform. If she couldn't quite run and follow it up by default you can try and teleport off the left edge and nair or something.

She has the shortest teleport and it's almost never useful/game changing. Doesn't hurt to have as an option but isn't really necessary.

always a tricky spacing tool, I guess? I mean, theoretically. Never seen it used to any effect at all.

I think I remember someone saying teleport bomb drop could be used as either an approach or a bait of some sort. Don't remember though. I hope that isn't what ballin's video is showing but I can't open it so o well

Samus can knock some characters off the ledge(at least falcon) with a grounded up-b. I did it by accident today, I've never seen that before.

I did a dair on grounded opponent ->weak hit of utilt -> up-tilted F-smash today. Anyone know if this is legit?

Never seen that before. I remember seeing dair + fair + fsmash against a Kirby, but very difficult to perform I guess.

Is Samus' up-tilt the worst move in the game?

PD: First post.

There are definitely worse Jigglypuff's up B and Luigi/DK's dash attacks come to mind.
I've used Samus's u-tilt to edgeguard Falcon's before

i assume they were recovering high? i tend to dtilt when low or try to bair if they're really above, and when level go for the fsmash. sometimes it gets grabbed, though, which leads to me think that the angled fsmashes are superior. uncertain if high ftilt would get grabbed or not.

Well, right... DK's dash attack is definitely worse than Samus' up-tilt, too laggy.

Although I've seen teleported up-B`s with Jigglypuff, but it is most likely used to mess around as it would be very difficult to "hit" the opponent with that.

I remember Peek and Moogle going for a lot of those
NF went for a bunch also, mostly in teams.

what are samus' best options when hanging from a ledge?

ledgehop fair usually gets punished and ledgehop dair is situational.
The best option is pressing U, and then shield yourself, if the enemy hits you, you just counter with a Dair or whatever.
If the enemy is going to grab you, use UpB out of shield.
Or just press down a lot and lose a stock.

i've found that you can dair juggle people off the ground three or four times and then hit them with the back kick

No, you actually can't, because players who know how to tech will force you to predict their position after you dair them into the ground.

What are you talking about? I did it against a level 9 CPU (the strongest) and it worked. It's not always easy to be in the right position to do the back kick, but keep practicing!
