We don't have to worry about Roy being maimed by everyone because Roy will be mained by everyone.

Better study that Roy ditto :roypm:

I would like to see both the Dancing Blade and Double Edge Dance come out as fast as the Dancing Blade did in Brawl. I used that move a lot because it came out so fast. I'm not used to delaying between presses. Maybe for Roy, have it come out a little slower than that, but not nearly as slow as Melee, and more powerful than Dancing Blade, with more fire. But, I would like to see Roy have a more unique style. In Melee, yeah, he basically was a different-looking Marth who was a little heavier and a little slower and had fire on some of his moves. At least his Counter was a unique animation. I'm a little disappointed to see Roy be still just like Marth, to be honest. I think he should still at least have a few more unique animations.

I think Roy's DED will be like it was in Melee however it has different animations now and a 4th backwards stab, I think the main reason Roy was luigified instead of 100% decloned was to keep the Melee feel.

Well, if you count every edge dance moves being different animations, more than half of Roy's moveset include decloned animations. Not to mention that yes, side B retains its role that is inherently different from Marth's in Melee. It's just better than it was originally.

Ok, but I still would like to see Dancing Blade and Double Edge Dance come out almost as fast as it does in Brawl. I don't like how it came out so slow and I have to keep delaying the presses to make the full move come out.

Quick curious question: If Kirby "copies" Roy, will Kirby adopt Roy's B or Marth's?

Melee's physics made it so that mashing the buttons wouldn't maximize the damage and positional disadvantage that the moves put on the victim. In Brawl, since hitstun canceling would have made the moves worthless if they were too slow, the window was made smaller.

I need to stop torturing myself with the videos and threads about Roy. Be patient. Roy's our boy.

Sorry if this has been brought up, but I was wondering if any changes were planned to Roy's counter. In Melee:

Marth: 59 total frames. Active 5-29.
Roy: 59 total frames. Active 8-20.

And I know that the payoff on Roy's is usually higher, so maybe that makes some sense, but I feel like it's a bit excessive (3 frames later? half the active frames?). What does everyone think?

I think Roy's Counter should start at the same time Marth's does, but last the same amount of time as it does in Melee.

(Or activate retardedly late but last longer)

1.5x multiplier guys.

that more than makes up for those 3 frames lol.

nevermind the fact he's balanced. :V
This.

Roy has the most powerful counter out of the entire FE cast. It shouldn't be tied for the fastest, too. Although I admit I would like such things, being a Roy main and all.

#Realtalk

You can call him low tier all you want but a counter or 2 in the right place was among the greatest of tableturners in the game.

I think the idea of changing Roy's counter will be unpopular because it's a quirky aspect of the character that makes him unique. As other said, the reward is much greater for landing it (greater than any attack your opponent has), so the risk should be higher as well. It might be more logical for Roy to have a weak counter that comes out early as a way to fend off pressure strings, but then we'd be making him more like Marth, and that's not what we want.

I would be surprised if this move got changed. As for making it less risky and just as damaging... that would be broken. It would give him very lopsided matchups against the slow powerful characters. That's difficult to integrate.

I know I'm late to the party but... damn.

Roy is back, one of my favorite Melee characters during my scrub days. Literally the best reveal ever in this development. I think this even beats Megaman getting announced for Smash 4.

Now all they have to do is make Samus awesome and I won't even bother buying Smash 4.

So, what's the difference between the counters of all of them... Roy, Ike, and Marth?

So was Roy ever on stream @ BH3 or was all the hype just the M2 announcement?

Came here to ask the very same question after looking everywhere in Youtube.
:(

Oh well.. At least we got a Metwo reveal, which automatically makes this THE definite version of Brawl to play from now on.
It's great to see how far this game and the people behind it have come.

By the stream going on, it looks like Roy can combo into F-smash off literally any random hit. Aerials? Side-B? Grabs? Tech-chases? At like ANY %?
Lots of Nair-spam going on, and not much attempts at fancy stuff (no side-b or dtilt>fair>dtilt>fair>regrab attempts or ftilts in neutral or etc that all look pretty BnB, not even combos into F-smash <_<), but this stream is a pretty good showing off stuff from both Mewtwo and Roy if anyone wants to see. It's been going for a while.
